Pavilions SC is probably the closest to you. Probably charge a little more than a tenner, but no more than €20. If you went into the city you would get it for €10.

Thanks and City options would be?

My wife got her Gold Sim in the post today but it has turned into a bit of a nightmare trying to port her number.

She is currently on Tesco Mobile and tried to port this evening. The problem is that her Tesco number was orininally an O2 number and to complicate things further it was originally in my name on O2.

So the Gold SIM that she got is no good. She was informed that I will have to drive 25 miles to the nearest O2 shop to do the swap as the original number was in my name several years ago.

I'm starting to wonder if this is worth the trouble. There is bound to be some problem when I go to the O2 shop tomorrow i.e will I be able to get the Gold Sim tariff?

My gold sim was a tesco mobile sim, in my mother's name, and on an O2 number. I received the sim today, and got a text from O2 earlier stating the porting will go ahead tomorrow.. should I be worried?

Have received the sim card with a brand new o2 number, and not the number I ported over. Whats that about? Also the free calls work but not the texts, anyone got any ideas?

That number will be gone after they port your current number over. That new number was the number assigned to the sim card.

Just got a text today saying that my number would be ported over - only problem is I only topped up yesterday and don't want to lose my credit!

Has anyone had any success in stalling the porting process / or know if it can be rescheduled for another time?

I don't know what kind of a donkey I got on the phone last night but she sent me on a 60 mile round trip for nothing

I got to the O2 shop this morning and guess what? The SIM I got in the post was fine . The nice lady in the shop took about 30 seconds to set it up.

    What a joke..........

So anyhoo, beware of O2 "Customer Service" staff .

Only my free calls work too.. did yours fix?

Just got €60 credit from O2....

No idea why, but I'm not complaining. I ported my 085 number over to the O2 golden sim about a week ago. Topped it up with €20 myself a few days ago and then today I get a text from O2 - "EUR60 credit has been applied to your account. Thanks. From O2".

The only thing it might be is some kind of compensation. I signed up for it on the day the golden sim came out, but there was a delay in receiving it and I eventually got a call from O2 saying there was some kind of issue with the system and could I confirm my address.

    Happen to anyone else?

This is off-topic but kinda related.....

My newly ported number to O2 went dead a while back. I rang O2 and was informed that it had been ported out again to Tesco. The O2 CS girl had no idea why.

So now I (or rather my wife) has no phone :mad::mad::mad:

I want to check, but I also want to try it in my new phone when it comes. Haven't got an o2 number to ring atm, and I don't want to ring someone for the sake of seeing if it works :P

I'll let you know in an hour, i'm expecting the courier at 12:30 (when he normally comes)

I stuck it in my old phone, tried to send a message to my friend, didn't work. Message failed. Hopefully I've done something wrong.

I am still waiting on my sim to arrive.
During the signup process I was given a date of June 23rd Before my old number ported over.

Tell me, Can you make a free call on your new sim yet to an o2 number, If so, What number comes up on the screen? If its the new o2 number that apears then it means the change over is not yet complete and you may have to wait a bit longger while it finnishes :)

This is going by experience when porting from one network to another, I am no way connected to o2 (yet) :)

Do you have to topup to activate the benefits? I have checked and seem to be on the plan but can't make any free calls/texts.

No, you don't need to top up. Are you sure you're calling/texting o2 numbers?

No, you don't need to top up. Are you sure you're calling/texting o2 numbers?

Yeah, definitely. Anytime I make a call to 086 I am told that I don't have sufficient credit to make the call so don't really know what's up. I tried an 086 text also and I just get an error

I asked o2 and they said to topup by €20 to activate the plan but I said I'd ask here first, so now I know I don't need to topup to activate it.

    Any suggestions?

It tells you that you have zero euro and to topup, but then it rings the number you dialled, if its an o2 number ofcourse. Make sure the 086 number your ringing is actually on the o2 network.

~You DO NOT have to topup to activate the plan ~

Thanks Davy, I'll contact o2 and see whats up. I've tried with multiple numbers :)

I received my sim yesterday and can make free calls to other O2 numbers without having any credit on it. The number is the provisional one as the porting will take place in the next few days (I received a text today, but can't remember the date).

What's the story with texts? I can only call o2 numbers for free.

I was with O2 all along, but I got a three sim, just to port over. Is it possible to get my old o2 number onto my new o2 sim?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,015 ✭✭✭Zardoz

I have been looking at my call charges and it seems that there is an additional call setup charge of 9c for every non 02 call with the Golden Sim .
    This means a 1 minute call costs 19c (9c + 10c) not 10c as previously advised by O2's reps.
    A 2 minute call costs 29c ,etc.

^^^ to be fair thats still the cheapest prepay rate out there by a fair distance.

As it was said a few pages back, it takes about 2-3 days for the free texts to kick in and suposely you'll be refunded for any texts you were charged in this period.

I called yesterday about getting the golden sim plan to my old number and a nice lady in their CS did it for me while I waited on the phone. I was very impressed, a big thanks to her and of course the OP! :D

As for the additional 9c charge, it is clearly advertised in their T&C and on the pack you received with your sim.

    Still no free texts here!

Felling a bit unhappy about the lack of promised free texts.
