Rounding up Percentages.

I'm just wondering how the examiners round up grades.

Do they round it to the nearest %?

    In which case does that mean than 89.5% = 90% = A1?

Or does it depend on the subject?

In any case it'd depend on the total number of marks available to create such a fraction.

    Thanks.

They round down which I think is pretty unfair!

Especially if you get like 84.9% or something!

The way it works out is by marks and not by percentage you see...!

    Let's say you get 509.5/600 in English. They class that as a B. 510 is a A!

they don't round down, up, or even use percentages in the first place.

    it all goes by marks

    No they don't
Its so unfair. I got 84.8 or something like that in Biology last year & I sent it back to be rechecked but it didn't budge.

Between my two maths papers last year I got 89.83%. I was down as an A2. A1 is 540/600, I got 539...

So lets say I get like 39.6% in my maths exam which i just did for the leaving, will they knock it down it 39 and fail me?

They don't knock down anything. It goes by marks. So yes they would fail you

Surely they would have found a mark somewhere if they were anyway decent and surely you got it rechecked?

Review your paper in school after the offers. You get a marking scheme and get to see what marks you got in each section, except you can't get your oral score and also some projects.

Of course I got it rechecked.
    They were extremely stingy.
    Example: something like (-6x-3)^2
The next line I wrote as (6x+3)^2

They took 3 marks because I didn't bring out the minus 1 and square it seperately...

And the marking scheme crucified me on paper 2.
    I made two tiny mistakes, something like 5x - 4x = 9x
The way the scheme was worded I lost 15 marks.

So I lost 30 for two tiny blunders...

Yeah, they are fairly miserable alright. I was less than a percentage off the next grade in maths and they didn't upgrade my mark, despite the marker actually interpreting one of the answers wrongly. *****. Make no mistake, unlike the JC, the LC markers aren't out to do you any favours.

If you are close to failing, they would likely bump you up. Fails never look good on their part. Every other grade - tough look I am afraid.

Lol, how is it unfair? The minimum for an A1 is 90%, and 89.9% is not 90%, therefore, no A2.

Not many people know this, but in actual fact if you get 38% they still give you a pass

It goes on marks, I corrected for years and never had a situation that wasn't clear cut.

And yes 38% is a pass...unless when I recheck I realise I was too generous in any area in which case it goes down. We are not there to fail ye.
