New Job and Maternity Leave

I am hoping to start a new full time job in a few weeks (fingers crossed), I have told them I am 4 and a half months pregnant. I am wondering what is my entitlement to maternity leave and how does it work and also what sort of salary should I be looking for as I will be going on maternity leave, I don't think I will be getting anything more then 22K anyway. Can anyone give me advice on maternity leave and will I be paid for it as I will only be in the job about 4 months before going on leave for about 6 months. Thanks

I think it also depends on the company, alot of companies don't pay you anything or maternity leave, but Defo read the link above, I found it very helpful

So what happens when the company doesn't pay? What do you do ? I can't go 6 months without money

It works like this you apply for maternity benefit from the state everyone does. There are limits to amount based on what you earn, you also need a certain amount of tax able weeks. The link above has the details.
Most companies do not top up maternity benefit, they are obliged to keep your job or one of equal pay and stature open until you return.
