He is probably the most famous coffee taster on the planet, in huge demand by everyone from illy to Irel. Some say he's 70% caffeine.:)

But what is his deal? Does anyone know him? What does he do? How is he affording to just sit there all day drinking expensive coffee?

A few month ago the Tribune did a review of the Happy Pear... AND HE WAS IN THE PICTURE!

This isn't the same lad who always has the Bono style shades on? No goatee mind. Known as "The oldest swinger in town" in our household.

He is a local guy and he enjoys his coffee and browsing the web on his phone.
Doesn't cause any bother to anyone.
He certainly spends a lot of time at the Happy Pear and occasionally at Cafe Estelle on the shady side of the street. He is also on facebook.

I'm sure that he's perfectly decent guy and certainly has enough friends to prove it, just may have to acknowledge the march of Father Time, that's all.

OP - why don't you just go up and say hello?
This thread reminds me so much of being in school again, let's pick on that guy... :(

Great thing about this town is many of us are quite friendly and are quite happy to pass the time talking to strangers. Look at it this way - if you want some advice on the best place to get coffee or what coffee to get then this bloke could be a goldmine.

    ?
Like how? Dress in a way that meets with your approval?
    How would you dress him?
I think he looks pretty slick, continental or something.
    Fair play to him

I have talked to him and his young daughter several times.
    He is a gentleman.

If you have some time on your hands, the Happy Pear is a great place to hang out.

Local fella doesn't need to work. Likes coffee. Being nosey is fine, posting it on the local internet page isn't.

Agreed. Social media can be far too intrusive, and the anonymous nature of board postings can mean that people will say things here they would not say in public.

Treat everyone with respect, until they demonstrate otherwise.

Very funny thread, what I love about our area is characters like him.
I've had a few chats with him, lovely guy I agree.
I don't think anyone was picking on him?? where did you get that idea?
    Just making an observation

    Speaking of charactars.

What about the Santa lookie-like in the viz jacket who patrols the park and ride?

Think hes from the county council p.r. dept. Carries one of them leanie-on shovels the co co get made.

    Lovely friendly chap.

As for grey owl outside the Happy Pear I think hes the neighbourhood watch up that end. Never off duty.

That lad in the pet shop keeps an eye down the other end and Nico 'the jeweller' looks after the meridian.

    Just my theory anyways. :D:D:D

Also, the guy who walks between Greystones and Delgany. Someone said he was the last of the Eco Warriors (from the time they were there protesting about the new road)Has long dreadlocks.
We call him Goose, we were in Farrellys Butchers in Delgany once just before Christmas..he was ordering a Goose and the owner was trying to persuade him against it as a Turkey would be better value, we waited while this bizaar conversation continues, he kept saying "NO! I want a goose" he got his way in the end...then when he heard the price said he would come back.

maybe you have issues but casting apersions on someones character on a public forum is out of order.
