/spits coffee all over the keyboards

I say.... you didn't say honest did you?

Yeah, what an honest politician he is indeed. Must be why he did so well in the General Elections this year too.

The man changes his mind when it suits him, or should I say when it suits his agenda, as demonstrated above. As a historical Bree voter, I will never be voting for him again.

So the reputation of a politican can be called into question, but that of a presenter asking the questions (Who is a well known FF man) can't be. What a load of rot. He, like any other broadcaster or political figure is in the public domain, and as such is subject to the same scrutiny as everyone else in the public eye.
Him being of impeccable moral standards is you're opinion, which you are entitled to hold, but no one else is obliged to hold the same view. Winning an award is hardly relevant to this.
P.S. I don't agree with what Perry did either, but if you can dish it out, you should be able to take it too, and that goes for both parties.

Look at the bigger picture. Do councillors support the common good or the interests of developers and speculators?
When the County Plan for the next 6 years was discussed in January attempts were made to rezone a lot more land for housing despite the glut of houses in the county and in the face of planners' advice.

How did the Strandhill councillors react?
    • Healy McGowan, O'Grady, as ever, supported rezoning.
    • McLoughlin stole away before the votes were taken.
    • Henry, McGarry did not bother to attend a key meeting.
    • MacManus not only supported rezoning but seconded one of the motions. This is a man who wants "a housing policy based on housing need not speculators’ greed"

Only Bree stood out for sustainable and rational planning.

I think you'll find that the regeneration project in Cranmore is a big picture. He was all in favor of all of the regen plans including the bridge when it suite him (come election time) so he got his votes. Then once it came down to it, he told bareface lies to the people he was supposed to represent after doing a U turn. He can fuck right off as far as I'm concerned. Bigger picture or not, he's a crooked politician.

Dep Perry holding a press conference in Sligo tomorrow re cancer services is SGH...... one wonders what will he have to say.... bad news I expect

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,259 ✭✭✭Buford T Justice

Can't imagine it'd be anything else tbh.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,012 ✭✭✭Plazaman

Even if he turned around and said Cancer Services would be restored by the end of the year, according to one of the Chiefs in SGH, it would take up to another 2 years to recruit the specialists back to the Hospital that they need as they transferred elsewhere when services were removed.

Perry's press conference will be a masterclass in blustering and bullshítery. He'll probably collaspe as he'll try to do the conference in one take without a breath. I was in the audience when he was interviewed on Moncrieff and after a long monologue, when they went to an ad break, Moncrieff says to him "Jesus John, do you breath through your ears?". V Funny.

No sign of an update from his waffleathon yet.

    EDIT: Scrap that

    Blah blah waffle waffle

    http://www.oceanfm.ie/article/Minister-Perry-fails-to-announce-full-restoration-of-breast-cancer-services-to-Sligo-General-Hospital/
Minister of State John Perry has failed to announce the full restoration of breast cancer service to Sligo General Hospital

During a press conference in the Sligo Park hotel this afternoon the Fine Gael TD announced that the government will restore mammography services in the fourth quarter of this year.

He says the recruitment of two mammographers is also underway along with 2 medical oncologists.

He says Sligo General Hospital will be one of the centres for colorectal screening which will be launched next year.

Minister John Perry delivering the announcement to 40 or so people and the media in attendance this afternoon
However Minister Perry was heckled by some those in attendance who say he has failed in his commitments outlined before the general election.

Under questioning by the media this afternoon Minister Perry also admitted it was a mistake to give a 100 day commitment.

Cancer campaigner told the Minister that he is only giving them ‘crumbs’ today.

Recruitment for the second oncologist is already under way http://www.hse.ie/eng/staff/jobs/Medical_Dental/Archive/8066.html so he is dressing up old news as new.

Mammography Services to be restored! This I would have expected to be already in place with no hint of it ever being removed.

So we dont even have the early diagnostic facilities let alone the facility to treat in place?

    :mad::mad::mad:

Never Voted FG in my life, but did last time on the promises of Perry regarding Cancer Services in SGH mainly.

To say I'm absolutely disgusted in him, would be an understatement!

Bad as the last shower were in power..... this crowd are no better & I will include the local senators in that!

Was up at the Sligo Park Hotel today waiting for his arrival. The Hotel had a Red Carpet out for a later wedding in the day, Perry thought it was for him - until he seen RTE/TV3 + numerous other photographers waiting in the wings - driver then diverted to a more private area from him to embark from his black merc!

Was not impressed by the security man he had placed on the door stating that it was a press conference and only open to the press??? FFS All the cancer support group/local councillors etc etc were being prevented fom entering - at this stage, tempors were high - security man seeked advice from inside and thankfully they were let in!

Personally, I think it was an absolute disgrace the way the Sligo Cancer Support Group, the public and the councillors who were told that it was none of their business because they were not from the area. One was a SF Cllr from Bundoran Mick Mc Mahon, now when did Bundoran become not to be serviced by SGH? Does Perry want all Bundoran/Ballyshannon women to go to Derry for Cancer services?

John Perry, if you read this - you should now realise that you should resign from the position that you had the good fortune of obtaining after being elected on false promises in the general election. Resign and return to your Shops/Hotel/Funeral Directors and give he job to someone who could actualy deliver for Sligo Cancer Services.

And to end this RANT! I feel so embarrassed that I actually gave him a Number 1

Believe me if I had to say what was on my mind when I wrote that sentence I would probably be barred from Boards.ie, I will compose myself and maybe write two sentences next time!! I take it Fingers that you are not from Sligo or the North West??

  • Registered Users Posts: 103 ✭✭Cummybaby

Doesn't this highlight a fundamental problem in the relationship between the politician and the voter. A candidate can only get elected if something is promised - in this case cancer services in Sligo. But if a candidate was realistic and campaigned along the lines of I'm going to try to get x for the county but I might not succeed than he/she would never get elected. How many more elections do we need to go through before we realise there is a gulf between what is promised and what is achieved.

<---- Ummmm, that would be a yes, as Sligo is in the north west.

FWIW, my issue was not in relation to what you had said, but the fact that there was a new thread started on John Perry and all it said was
So what happens now Minister Perry?????

Its kinda like starting a thread on the mating habits of African ants as the subject line and in the body just saying 'Discuss'

Not much point in starting a thread when you've nothing to contribute. Anyway, I'm not a Mod, so that's only my opinion. If you've got a problem with what I said, report the post.

Now girls, mind the hand bags :D

Getting back to the point, this is no surprise tbh

Most people I've spoken to knew that this wasn't going to happen despite the promises.
And what has our other illustrious FG representative had to say about the issue?
The agenda is just the same as it was before the election.
The next 100 days will result in more broken promises I reckon.

    try the TRUTH!

An alien and outdated concept I realise but how about stop bull****ting the electorate!?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,084 ✭✭✭Pete M.

I'd be afraid that poor auld Tony wouldn't know the truth if it came up and kissed him on that quiet, unassuming, vacant head of his.

    Which is worse?

To make promises that you know you won't keep, but still go on ranting and raving like as if you knew what you were doing, while all the time you were just looking out for your own?

Or to be elected as a TD, at a time when normal working people in this county are crying out for someone to do something to make things better, and go up to the Dail and sit there and do nothing!!!!

And all the time the two of them drawing a salary, that as far as I'm concerned, neither of them deserve.

Between the two of them, over a 5 year term, they'll be paid probably over a million euro.

That would help a lot of sick people around here

I remember when I was part of the campaign to save Sligos cancer services, I was called to discuss on ocean fm with a FG Councillor at the time about the issue of FG not signing the pledge that was drawn up by the group itself. The Councillor continued on about how he believed Enda Kenny's promise to restore services at Sligo general and his word was good enough for him and should be for anyone else.
My only point on the day was if he was that sure of the restoration of services then why not just sign the pledge?

Perry and his ilk are all careerists and main concern is a mixture of being re-elected and keeping in favour with the party. It seems odd to me that he would make this ridiculous 100 day restoration pledge knowing full well it was never going to happen. If the FG/Labour coalition restore services to Sligo general then I will be happy to eat my words, but it won't happen.

The sad reality is that by then people will be fed up with FG and Labour and will have to look back at the other side of the coin and the new faces but same bulls*it of FF will be looked towards to represent us in the Dail. Civil war politics and our skepticism at any sort of fresh approach to our problems are half the reason we are close to financial ruin. That's another topic though I guess.
