Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've got a month or so on holidays over the next 3 months - and one of my hopes/wishes would be to capture on film (well digital) some of the ancient stone monuments around Ireland.

I have fine (I think) shots of the crosses in Moone/Castledermot and Clonmacnoise- but if anyone can tell me of places where you find old Celtic stone structures I'd be very thankful:)

Well, if you're heading towards Carlingford from Dundalk there is a big one in a Golf Course, I don't know what it's sign posted as but I'll find out, I think it's the Ballymac.

Then, if you go through Ravensdale by the old Newry road and go up Annaverna mountain towards the mast there is one on the way up.

There's more but I don't have time to type them out at the minute, I'll find out more precise directions and look for a map and put it up here tomorrow. :)

The Dundalk (Proleek) one is on the Grounds of the Ballymascanlon Hotel. I have photographed 6 in Dublin- One near carrickgollan, One near stepaside (big) one in a housing estate in Ballybrack one (relocated) in the Zoo! (there is also a kist near the chapelizod pesestrian gate to the Zoo) One on private property near Brennanstown, One on the Dublin Wicklow border between Glencree and Bohernabreena. The only one I have photographed in Wicklow is Onagh, south of Enniskerry. There are 2 big ones in Aughnacliffe, in North Longford. The first is signposted in the village, the second is near lough Gowna, OS map required. there are 2 huge ones in Carlow- Brownes Hill just east of the town and Haroldstown (10-15 miles east of Carlow) But to start with you should go to Sligo, I'm having brain fade on names but the megalithic cemetery in the shadow of Knocknarea has over 40 monuments, including Dolmens and a Kist. I'll edit this with linefeeds, links and more detail later.don't forget cairns, can be very interesting too

Megalithic cemetery is Carrowmore, selection of cairns in Castlebaldwin Carrowkeel, excellent cairn near sally gap on the top of seefin Mountain.

Hi Keps, i was in the museum in Collins barracks in Dublin City, they have a high crosses exibition and also have pictures and locations of all the main high crosses in Ireland, might be handy as a starting point for you and off course entrance to the museum is free.
