Has anyone seen that about us being apparently about to bring in 4 youngsters from Fiorentina?

    They are:

Either Xavier or Saverio Madigali - Twins who have both been called up to Italy U17's. Its one or the other of these.
Leonardo Capezzi - Apparently their star midfielder, already capped at U17 level.
Luca Lezzerini - A goalkeeper, who just turned 16 and already capped at U17 level.
Pierluigi Gollini - Also a goalkeeper. Not sure if he's been capped but apparently Milan and Juve interested in him too.

Courtesy of @DoronSalomon on Twitter if anyone wants to follow him.

Anyone else think the 15M fee includes Youngs signing on fee? Seems a bit high given there is 1 year remaining on his contract.

I'd say the Berbatov decision is based on whether we get Sanchez. If we do, I'd say he's gone.

Atletico Madrid say striker Diego Forlan is likely to return to England after they made him available for transfer.

The Uruguay international marksman has been a huge hit in Spain following his largely unsuccessful spell with Manchester United.

And that has not stopped the rumour mill surrounding the striker as he has been consistently linked with a Premier League return in recent seasons.

The 32-year-old is now deemed as surplus to requirements at Vicente Calderon and that has alerted top-flight clubs in England, with Tottenham reportedly leading the chase.

Forlan has already rejected the opportunity to go to Turkey with Galatasaray and president Enrique Cerezo says the striker's first choice is the Premier League.

"Diego will decide what happens, but it looks like his first choice will be England," said Cerezo.

Eh? Eh? :) If only he were a couple of years younger.

Why would he get a signing on fee if he isnt on a free transfer? Is that not the only time signing on fees are issued? Well significant ones anyway

With every big transfer comes a big signing on fee

All transfers have and being close to the end of the contract he would want a bigger one as he could go on a Bosman next year and make more. Most reports say this is going to be an undisclosed fee, so journos are guessing at 15m

Also, has anyone gambled on the soccertriads home kit yet? Just wondering on quality, size and delivery time

As afar as I know, the white away kit from the season gone is the third kit for this coming season. I know there have been pics of a nice black kit that some have said is going to be the third kit but I don't believe that is actually the case.

    Interesting fact that someone twote

Since the start of the 2006/07 season, only Fabregas (60) has more assists than Young (44) in the Premier League.

Pretty good, he should be far more effective for us cos we're gonna score more.

you also have to take into account the fact that Young was Villa's main set piece taker and main source of creativity from open play - most of the game went through him, that will not be the case at United so I don't think he crossing/pass stats will be as high for United. However, that argument can be countered by saying he will have less opposition attention at United, as we have more threats than Villa so he will have a bit more freedom when he does have the ball.

He also barely ever gets injured, since 2006 he has played the 2nd most PL minutes of any player.

He will prove an excellent and astute signing over time IMO, the type Fergie specialises in.

Nah, you're right. He will be a good signing though i'm sure.

Brown, O'Shea and Gibson held "productive" talks with Sunderland, agreed "broad" personal terms, not had medicals yet.

We also attack a lot more than Villa. Villa are a mid table team so a lot of games they are playing better opposition and he wont see as much of the ball. Villa played very direct football too so a passing game could suit him. He has looked impressive anytime i have seen him for England.

i still think o shea is going nowhere...no sense to sell him, unless he wants to go himself which ive not heard.

so, young joins jones with de gea to follow hopefully. thats 3 down, 2 to go :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,346 ✭✭✭Quandary

that's 2 decent signings in the bag already. De Gea won't be too long more I would imagine.

Then the real transfer muppetry will begin :)

Would be very disappointed to see JOS go and its a decision I think we will regret. The twins are very injury prone still (though seem to be less so than a couple of years back) and JOS is a really capable stand in. Come the business end of the season, when the games are coming thick and fast, guys like John come into their own.

With Barca unable to secure Sanchez yet and unwilling to pay out for Fabregas, both are not unlikely to move to UTD. (Nasri that is, not Fabregas)

It would only leave us with Evra and the twins for both full-back slots.

Now that would be some summer :)

I'm quietly hopeful about the Sanchez deal though. Despite never having seen him play in any extended period that is :)

I may be mistaken but i think Young's best season with Villa was when Agbonlahor scored alot of goals. He linked well with him and Agbonlahor is very speedy as is Chico so hopefully he can link up well with Chico. The more i think about it i am very pleased with the signing. A very shrewd signing. Alot of talk about a cm i really think we should sign a player who can keep the ball and pick out a good pass. I dont really think we need an am. A cm who is good on the ball can control the midfield and spray passes to our wingers is what we need imo. We are very speedy on the wings with Young, Nani, Valencia, Park and possibly Wellbeck. Im not going to suggest a signing who can do this alot of people are saying Banega. I have not seen enough of alot of the names mentioned to know if they can do a job for us. I think Rooney can operate as an am if we need to change things up, or even Young can play through the middle.

Is there any decent full backs in the youth/reserves that could make the step up to squad player?

Not that i know of, its a huge step up to be taking. We where linked with Izaguirre from celtic a while ago.

Good news about Ashley Young being finalised, has there been any word yet on what squad number he will take just out of interest? The wings are looking strong now with 4 very very good players in Tony-V, Nani, Park and Young with T-Clev and Welbeck able to cover if needs be. Come on Fergie make a signing for CM whether attacking or more natural CM, whether marquee or promising youth with a shot at the first team and make us all happy!!

It's a strange one because we haven't really been linked this summer to any full backs. You wouldn't want Evra playing 60 odd games next season and the twins do pick up injuries. Maybe that's where Evans will fit in?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,512 ✭✭✭u140acro3xs7dm

God i hope not. He is very slow and awkward to be running up and down the wing.

I think the fact that Evans and Smalling both played in the full back roles towards the end of the season is some comfort to Fergie that they can fill in there if required.

However, I hope we dont let JOS go either, such a great guy with a good attitude to keep around.

I know, wouldn't be my first choice either but it doesn't seem likely Fergie will sign a full back with midfield a priority this year. I hope O'Shea stays on, great squad player to have over a long season.

You reckon? i think he looks pretty decent as a full back, no more ungainly that O'Shea anyways
