He'd be an excellent signing for them and a big loss for you, IMO. I presume Ashley will hold out for £5m though.

Whatever about Nolan, selling Barton would be an absolute disaster

I think he'd be a much, much greater loss than Nolan would be.

Agreed. We looked clueless without Barton. Our best player by some margin

    Quotes form Adel Taarabt
"I helped QPR win promotion but they will not offer me a better contract. They say I am already on big wages," Taarabt said.

"They want me to stay four years on the same terms. But I don't want to sign for four years then after one year I am going to be back in the Championship.

"No disrespect, but if we keep the same players, it will be very difficult to stay in the Premier League when you are playing Man United and Chelsea."

"People say Newcastle will be good for me, that the fans love players like me.

"It is fantastic to play in front of 50,000 supporters every week. I do not need one of the very big clubs at this stage."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,979 ✭✭✭Vurnon San Benito

Barton will leave I'd imagine, disappointing but we can replace him.
I can see that we're trying to sign basically a different team very early on in the transfer window with the hope they can gel in time for the Premier League season.
That is what I am worrying about.

Think we've ended our interest in Charles N'Zogbia too, according to Douglas anyway!

Taraabt would be a huge coup if we could get him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,161 ✭✭✭✭M5

Given Bartons recent comments about CL football and also the way he dealt with the Everton speculation i doubt he will be going to Villa, If Arsenal show an interest however...

For the reported £10m? His attitude stinks and he's unproven in the Premier League. Robbie Savage destroyed him last season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,979 ✭✭✭Vurnon San Benito

The max I'd pay for Taarabt would be £5m - £10m is ridiculous.

A very naturally talented player, but a natural wanker too when he wants to be.
We don't need him, as much as he'd love to join!

    Won't be buying it myself.

    Third jersey though:

    Newcastle-Third-Kit-Closeup.jpg

    A definite purchase.

    Speaking of jersey's:

Play.com are selling our home kit for €44 with free delivery.

    Short sleeve: €44.

Long sleeve: €41.49 - Not sure why it's cheaper. Usually long sleeved jersey's are more expensive.

why do lazy journo's keep linking us with 29,30, 30+ year olds when it is clear the clubs policy is to sign younger players ...?

Was over in Newcastle at a poker tournie this weekend, my first time over there! Got a tour round the stadium, pint in Shearer's, bought half the club shop etc etc. got my hands on that 3rd jersey too (the black one That_Guy posted) and it's savage. The women over there are mad for the Irish accents too so I'm gonna have to make a trip back. ;)

Was looking to try get to the Arsenal match first game of the season, any of you know where's the best place to get match tickets or will it be impossible to get ones for the first home game of the season?

    July 4th I've heard mate.

They're reasonably priced now too. As soon as the fixtures are released the prices rocket up

Bollocks. It's annoying because I just know that the opening game against Arsenal will be moved given the 4-4 fixture last season.

And of course the derby the following will no doubt be on TV too but I'd nearly be 90% certain that they'd move that to an early Sunday kick off.

There's no chance it'll be left at 3pm Saturday. The best you could hope for is a 12:00pm or 12:45pm kick-off on the Saturday.

Looking at the other fixtures for that weekend I see Man United V Spurs and Arsenal V Liverpool are also on. That looks good for a Sunday actually.

Hard to know, you might get lucky!

Aye. Spurs V Everton will probably be the early Saturday kick-off. They'll show one of the promoted sides on the Sunday early, and you V Arsenal 4pm on the Sunday. ESPN will probably pick up Liverpool V us.

Good point. I'm just confusing myself now :pac: Either way, the derby will be as early a kick-off as possible. It'd be played at 7am if the police had their wish.
