Not a Newcastle fan, just posting this and saying that I feel very sorry for all Newcastle fans after listening to this!

Saw someone on twitter saying maybe Kinnear really liked ISS. Made me laugh.

Just listened to the interview not as bad as i expected tbh, yeah he got names wrong but i thought he was ok, maybe he will push ashley for money and transfers and not be a puppet like pardew although i dont think it will end well

His interview on Talksport was the most embarrassing thing I've witnessed associated with NUFC......and that is really saying something.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,161 ✭✭✭✭M5

Waking up to another sh*t storm. What possessed Ashley to hire a clearly paranoid egotistical eccentric deluded has-been as DOF? We already have an egotistical eccentric deluded manager....

There must have been 50 factual inaccuracies in that interview alone

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,746 ✭✭✭TaosHum

Always a good way to start (or re-start) your tenure with a club by having a go at the fans.

It's going to be a long three years.

Surely this has to be a smokescreen for something else? Cant actually be happening, can it?

He was slightly out with the amount of Tottenham appearances he had.

Were you the lad saying that Kinnear had a good stint last time out as manager?

    ;)

Can't help but laugh. Not a good time to be a Newcastle fan.

    This is gonna be epic!
Joe will report directly to the club's Board as the senior executive in charge of all football-related matters. Chief scout Graham Carr and manager Alan Pardew will report into Joe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,342 ✭✭✭✭That_Guy

Carr and Pardew have to report to JFK?

    Oh dear god.

Whatever about losing Pardew, do we really want to lose Carr given some of the players who have been brought in??
If i was in a job like this, i wouldn't be long updating my CV to work anywhere else.....

I was not, although I do think he would have kept us up, just about, that season.

Tough to be positive after news like that but I am still pretty convinced he won't have as much say as he thinks.

Can't see him being much more than a liaison between manager and board over transfers. only time will tell

So how long does everyone think it will take before Pardew is sacked and Kinnear is given his job?

No, but you could make his decision to stay there a lot tougher.

Yes. Why would he bother selling up when he's not losing much/any money? The stadium still sells lots of tickets. If at every home game there was 10k maximium home support their I think he'd be a lot more proactive in trying to sell.

Look how the club is being managed despite getting full houses, now remove the income from attendances, the club would be in League 2 in the space of 4 seasons.

Attendances had just recently begun to return to normal after years of protests. Despite the setting up of NUST etc the club refuse to engage in any dialog with the fansor their representatives.

Unfortunately we are stuck with this shower of fools until someone is crazy enough to pay way over the odds for the club.

This has been discussed to death for years, we support the club and will continue to do so. To do otherwise is ridiculous in my eyes

Hard to know. Depends on who Joe allows us to sign.

Pardew favourite now with Paddy Power to be the first manager to leave/get sacked.

    2/1

    *gets sick in hands*

I don't really want Pardew as manager after the shíte he had us playing last season but I feel a little sorry for him in this.

Incredible news and people are laughing in our direction and rightly so.

Well, looking for a positive for Newcastle, you can possibly argue that this clown will be sought out for interviews rather than the mgr when it all goes wrong. Might give the manager some breathing space?

For the neutrals, a season of Joey filled madness is a great prospect. Sad to say people will want to hear him talking nonsense rather than listening to anyone with anything sensible to say.

Somewhere Chris Hughton is in fits of laughter.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,584 ✭✭✭Rekop dog

The only.... ONLY rational that explains his appointment is that he must have some major dirt on Ashley and this is blackmail. The alternatives are too depressing for whatever faith I've left in humanity.

    Everything will be OK folks.

I think things will eventually calm down, and the lads will get on with business as normal. Who knows, maybe Kinnear will get some PR training and keep his mouth closed.

Hard to say the partnership might work, but we have no choice to put up with it — we'll see how things fare out.

The only positive I can see from this appointment is that Kinnear might actually be able to convince Mike Ashley to free up some cash. However, Kinnear really needs to do his work behind close doors and keep away from the media.

    There are no positives.

This appointment is in no way good for Newcastle United.

Im just waiting for Dennis Wise to be brought in as "head of online scouting"

**actually cant even get angry over this as i cant comprehend the rational behind the move therefor i cant pick it apart and point out the utter stupidity of this scenario**

Bloody hell. He had to have been drunk last night.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/newcastle-united/10126824/Joe-Kinnears-radio-interview-blunders-the-truth-behind-his-outrageous-claims.html
Here Luke Edwards looks at Kinnear's key boasts - and analyses their relationship with the truth.

Kinnear: “I’ve been manager of the year three times…”
The truth: Won LMA manager of the year in 1994 and was voted manager of the month three times that season.

Kinnear: “I signed Dean Holdsworth for £50,000 and sold him for £3m.”
The truth: Signed him for £650,000 from Brentford and sold him to Bolton for £3.5m.

Kinnear: “I’ve never been sacked in my life.”
The truth: Was reportedly sacked by Luton Town in May 2003.

Kinnear: “There are a lot of players still there (at Newcastle) that I worked with. I bought the goalkeeper Tim Krul there and he is a very good goalkeeper.”
The truth: Tim Krul signed for Newcastle when Graeme Souness was manager and made his debut against Palermo in the Europa League for Glenn Roeder in 2006.

    Kinnear: “Perch is still there.”
The truth: James Perch did not sign for Newcastle United until July 2010 when Chris Hughton was manager.

Kinnear: “I only signed the contract (to be Director of Football) last night, (but) it’s been on going for three weeks. Derek Lambeeze [managing director Derek Llambias] resigned and the job became available."
The truth: Derek Llambias was never in the Director of Football role and remains as the club’s managing director.

Kinnear: "I had over 400 games for Tottenham Hotspur."
The truth: Kinnear made 196 Tottenham appearances.

    Kinnear: I sold Robbie Earle for x y z."
The truth: Earle remained at Wimbledon and retired a year after Kinnear left.
On standing up to journalists for criticising his appointment as manager back in September 2008.

Kinnear: "A lot of the supporters up there are influenced by the media set….because I stood up to about a 100 journalists that night they have a grudge. I remember it, it was after we had beaten Tottenham 2-1. I was asked the question, how do you feel about the whole stadium chanting the name of Alan Shearer? They were gutted we had won."
The truth: His infamous clash with the North-East press pack came in his unveiling press conference in front of less than 25 people ahead of a game against Everton at the training ground.

In his Sky Sports interview on Sunday there were other notable flaws in Kinnear’s argument. Kinnear: “In the two years I was at Newcastle, I got to know the place inside out.”
The truth: He was there for six months, a month of which was spent on sick leave.

Kinnear: “When I had my heart attack we were flying… we were 12th.”
The truth: Newcastle hadn’t won for six games and were 15th in the table

Kinnear: “Geordies are Geordies and they want Geordies working at the club. I suffered because of that.”
The truth: There has been one Geordie manager since 1985, Sir Bobby Robson and, although a Newcastle fan, he was actually from Durham.

The guy is clearly delusional, what exactly the club sees in him is beyond me. Other than the fact Ashley trusts him there cant be anything. He clearly lacks judgment but will be the man running the show from now on.

I'm way beyond angry and way beyond feeling hopeless. Despite a brief reprieve Ashley is at it again. From May last year to today has been nothing short of an unmitigated disaster for the club. This is the cherry on top

In their rush to pick it apart some of the journos aren't exactly covering themselves in glory and are displaying similar levels of inaccuracy.
Kinnear: "I had over 400 games for Tottenham Hotspur."
The truth: Kinnear made 196 Tottenham appearances.

Seems he made 196 league appearances, + another 60 odd in FA Cup and League Cup and Europe bring the figure to 260.
Throw in maybe 5/6 preseason games a year for the 12 years he was there, + London Shield type midweek competitions that they had back then (and which never appear in figures) and his 400 is probably ballpark.

No disrespect to Newcastle fans but this is comedy gold. In actual fact I almost feel pity for the guy at this point. He was given a little bit of rope and he strung it up good and tight.
