It'll be interesting to see what they do with Ferguson. He said he would be happy to go out on loan again, but I'd like to see him get more opportunities this year. He has one thing that this team severely lacks....pace.

He also has confidence to take people on. I really think this is the year when he can genuinely oust Jonas out... Hopefully.

Imo ferg is just too light, great crosser and a bit of pace but too small, would love to see him playing first team but just dont think hes good enough, not being harsh to the lad as i said just my opinion

    http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/exclusive-mike-ashley-ready-to-sell-newcastle--for-267m-8673777.html

Owner is facing renewed calls in the North-east to end his six-years in charge at St James' Park

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley will only leave the club if he recoups all of the money he has spent since his take-over six years ago.
Recent figures released by Deloitte showed that the debt owed by the club to the Sports Direct owner stood at £267 million and that is around the figure it will take to end his controversial reign at St James' Park.
Ashley is facing renewed calls in the North-east to end his six-years in charge at St James' Park following the latest area of controversy, the appointment of Joe Kinnear as director of football.
A combined Newcastle supporters' group meeting on Monday night attracted around 400 fans and a statement was released yesterday that called for the Sports Direct billionaire to “consider his position as owner of Newcastle United.”
Ashley launched his bid to take full control of the club back in May 2007 when he bought the shareholding of the Hall family for £55 million. He later acquired the shares of then chairman Freddy Shepherd and by July of that year had full control. It is reckoned to have cost him £134 million to take over but there were hidden debts that Ashley had not reckoned on, having failed to undertake due diligence as he made his move to buy the club.
It is believed that Ashley had to spend more than £100 million clearing out debts left on player purchase and a loan to redevelop the stadium which had to be repaid if the Hall family left the club.
The cost of relegation from the Premier League is thought to have cost another £30 million in interest free loans made by Ashley to fund an annual wage bill in excess of £40 million that gained immediate promotion from the Championship.
Figures released by Newcastle during their last set of accounts showed that at the end of the financial year 2011/12, the owner loans from Ashley to Newcastle stood at £129 million, having been reduced from the high of £140 million in 2010/11.
Figures released in the 22nd edition of the Deloitte Annual Review of Football Finance 2013 on June 5, showed that the Premier League club's net debt of £1.4 million included interest free soft loans from owners with Chelsea (£895 million) and Newcastle United (£267 million) the top two.
The club has worked hard under Ashley to re-establish the levels of turnover the club was experiencing when he took over. In 2011/12 that was £93 million with the key wage to turnover ratio at 69 per cent (before they bought five players in January).
However his ownership has been beset by controversy, from the departure of Kevin Keegan and Alan Shearer to the appointment of Kinnear (twice), to relegation, the attempted renaming of St James' Park and a four-year sponsorship deal with Wonga.
This latest voicing of anger from supporters seems the most concerted yet and there have been calls for a boycott of the pre-season friendly with SC Braga.
I understand that Ashley is willing to sell Newcastle but he wants his expenditure covered in full, meaning it will take around a quarter of a billion pounds for the club to change ownership.
The purchase of Manchester City by the Abu Dhabi United Group cost them a reported £200 million in 2008 and Liverpool were bought by the Fenway Sports Group in 2010 for £300 million.
A statement released by the Newcastle supporters groups who met at the city's Labour Club on Monday night, when Kinnear, who was invited but could not attend, said: “This house declares that Mike Ashley is not a fit and proper custodian of a footballing institution that has a proud history and tradition, and enjoys one of the biggest and most fervent followings in European football.
”We call for Mike Ashley to consider his position as owner of Newcastle United and to begin a process of exiting before he does any more damage to either the club or his own reputation.“

Please god let someone or some consortium come in who wants to run the club in a decent fashion

Lads, if nobody's buying, then Ashley isn't selling. Simple as. We're stuck with him for the forseeable future I'm afraid.

To be fair Ashley has done that.

His ideas are right - his execution not so much.

I really dunno if i want to see him out, he has been a real s**tbag most of the time, the reasons we all know, but we are secure financially at the minute. Would i like to see a man city type owner at the club my heart says yes but my head says no way! whats gonna happen when the abvramovic, and sheikh mansour decide they are finished with their toy and cannot be bothered pumping money into it? they will be no more! they could end up in a rangers situation, i really dont want that and unless a buyer comes in who has the best interests of the club i would rather stick with the "devil i know"

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,746 ✭✭✭TaosHum

From a financial perspective, I think has done an excellent job of stabilizing the club after the mess Freddy left it in. And tbf, since our relegation he has handled most things well.

Where he is falling down on is on the footballing side. Strange appointments, poor PR and disengagement with the fans is what is hurting him.

Unless there is an oil tycoon interested, then I'm afraid were stuck with him.

would be a fantastic signing if he is as good as being reported and for us to bid supposedly £15 million(€18 million) is good news aswell..... if its true

Looks like a case of the agent hoping to push through a deal with another club to me! We've seen this so many times, nufc reportedly bid for a player and a well or so he ends up somewhere else! depressing !!

For some reason, I don't think that "bid" will be successful :pac:

  • Registered Users Posts: 980 ✭✭✭Seannew1

I can't comprehend why Ashley would trust a man with a pretty average managerial record who made a mess of the Newcastle job to reject signing a 6.4 good footballing defender on a free for a defender who didn't even get on the West Ham first time last year for 6 million. Also, forget Aubameyang, I'll leave the country if we sign him!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,161 ✭✭✭✭M5

probably comes under the "lets bid way less than the player is worth so the bid does not get accepted, then we'll complain about almost getting the transfer over the line, they always fall for that"

Aubameyang on NUFC: "Newcastle is a good club and St James's Park is a monumental stadium where there is passionate fans."

Also said he'll go to England before anywhere else...

... Maybe Joe doesn't have as much control over what players we bring in?...

Oh yeah, I thouht this piece on the Kinnear appointment was a decent read.. :pac:

He said a few weeks ago that it's his dream to "earn" a transfer back to Milan and he considers leaving Milan as the biggest mistake of his life.

Was a good squad player for us, not the quality i would like but always made up for that with his effort, though for 700k I would be keeping him

Lovely bloke, will be sad to see him leave.

I interviewed him not too long ago, was just a genuinely nice guy

    * shameless plug over *

Seriously though, more reason too keep him than lose him for £700,000! Saying that, as long as a replacement is sourced then I'm happy. Albeit unlikely.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,746 ✭✭✭TaosHum

Think its a good move for him. He's going on 28 and would probably like to see regular first team action at this stage of his career, which he will get at Wigan.

The reason for the low transfer sum is due to the fact he is entering the last year of his contract, so better to get something for him.

    More Kinnear delusions.

Club needs to seriously step in here and tell him to shut the fúck up. He's embarrassing himself and the club.

He is the most successful manager ever in the history of the world, having been named manager of the century in every league in which he has worked. He has 10485 individual manager of the year awards across all the continents and several from Venus and Saturn too. He won every single one of his games while manager at Newcastle and the team would have gone through the season winning every game if he had not been poisoned by Alan Shearer. Kinnear's best signings for Newcastle were Milburn, Gallagher and Keegan.

    :D

Rumour that fee has been agreed with Wigan for Kone. Although, the story is from Sports Direct News, so make of it what you will.
Newcastle United have made a dramatic late entrance into the race for Wigan Athletic striker Arouna Kone - in a bid to hijack his move to Everton.
Toon boss Mike Ashley has told Latics he will pay £5 million for the Ivory Coast hit man and has been given permission to talk to him.
Kone was due to close a move to Goodison and team up with former Wigan chief Roberto Martinez, but now he has two choices.
Newcastle will pay the £5m up front that Latics owner Dave Whelan is demanding and are happy to compete at the death and try to talk Kone round.
Kone was a big success in his debut season in the Premier League and was chased by Norwich and Swansea City before Everton showed their hand.
Despite Kone saying that he prefers Everton the door is just slightly open for Newcastle who badly want the powerful and skillful African.
Kone will not be at Wigan for pre-season training today as he sorts out his future, with an unexpected alternative on his mind.

....ah the familiar sound of transfers that just got away

Please not Bent. Himself and Cisse will be offside... ALL THE TIME. Remy would be ok provided he's on wages we proposed to him in January.

I'm absolutely alarmed that no one has yet been signed and how relaxed club officials seem to be about the size and quality of the squad. The departures of Harper,Simpson and Perch have left a mighty big gap in this squad. It's time for alarm bells to be ringing.

Goalkeepers-Probably one area of the team which doesn't need to be strengthened. As long as Krul stays injury free we should be fine. Elliot has proved himself a worthy back up. Linked with the PSV 22 year old keeper yesterday which was apparently just speculation. Maybe, it wouldn't be a bad idea to sign a new keeper.I'd be worried if either Krul or Elliot got injured and whether Ben Alnwick would be able to step in.

Defence-When you look at it, Perch's departure has automatically left us extremely light here. Along with that,we conceded if I'm not mistaken the 2nd most goals in the PM last year?Ferguson has gone back out on loan to Birmingham and looks like James Tavenier isn't good enough either. Yanga Mbwiwa should be a lot better this year but still I think a centre back with height and who can cover right back should be a priority.

Midfield-Centre of the park, I think we're fine, provided Cabaye stays.Again, Sissoko should be better this year and I don't think Tiote can get any worse than last year. Completely lacking in energy, pace and creativity down the flanks however. Obertan has proved time and time again he can't cut it at this level, Gutierrez is just plain bad and Marveaux is a little too inconsistent for my liking. I'd like to see Scott Sinclair come in. I'm sure City would gladly accept anything around the 4m mark and he'd offer pace and an eye for goal. Ben Arfa will always be someone for the free role so whether Pardew will accommodate that this season remains to be seen.

Forwards- At least 2 top strikers are needed, one to potentially partner Cisse and one to push them two for a starting place. I can't predict who they might be but hopefully they'll have adequate quality. I think if a suitable offer comes in for Ameobi, we should let him go. Decent servant of the club but he's contributed little if anything over the last 3 years(apart from the last minute equaliser against Sunderland)!Overall,if 2 strikers are added,we'd be in a good state,Gouffran is a good player but won't get into double figures,Cisse has scored goals at important times before and Campbell definitely is still a year or two away from the first team.

Sure Kinnear has fu<ked off on a family holiday so there'll be little or nothing done transfers-wise for a couple of weeks.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,746 ✭✭✭TaosHum

At the moment, our first team squad looks like:

    Keepers
    Krul
    Elliot
Alnwick (although its looking like Newcastle are targeting a keeper).

    Defenders
    Yanga-Mbiwa
    Coloccinni
Williamson (looks to be off though)
    S. Taylor
    R. Taylor
    Haidara
    Santon
    Debuchy

    Midfield
    Cabaye
    Sissoko
    Tiote
    Anita
    Gutierrez
    Marveaux
    Obertan
    Bigirimana
    Ben Arfa
    Vuckic

    Forwards
    Cisse
    Campbell
    Gouffran
    Ameobi

Haven't included the likes of Gosling, Sammy Ameobi and Amalfitano as its looking unlikely they will be at Newcastle come August. Williamson potentially will be gone and Bigi IMO could do with a loan spell.

After that, the areas I think that need strengthening are CB (spend between £2-4m), RM (between £5-7.5m), GK (between £1-2m) and ST (£7.5-10m).

I don't know how strong Alnwick is, but considering the injuries at that position last season, a competent 3rd choice is probably needed.

If Williamson leaves, then that leaves only 3 CB's, so depth here would be an issue.

Right wing (or left wing considering HBA usually lines up on the right when fit) I think is badly in need of upgrading. Gutierrez simply can't be gifted that role any longer and significant money needs to be spent to upgrade. Not overall fond of seeing Gouffran on the flanks either. Think he would be more effective through the centre.

I don't necessarily agree we need two strikers in this window. Gouffran can play up top (as he did in France), so all that's needed is someone to compete with Cisse. Considering we only play with one striker, I don't see why we need to bring in more than one.

You've hit the nail on the head for me. I've not kept up with any transfer news this summer at all. Would usually be looking at the fixtures coming out today and planning which games to head over to but finding it hard to get excited about the new season. Alan ****ing Pardew and Joe ****ing Kinnear :(
