Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Nice way to start pre-season. Encouraging to actually see Sissoko being played in his proper position (not that it will last).

    And we are off.

Cisse has not traveled to Portugal, dispute over wonga deal believed to be the reason.

I suppose that will give our new recruits an opportunity to shine...... Oh wait!

He was happy enough to wear a shirt with Virgin Money on it (also money lenders). Clearly a (ridiculous) exit strategy.

of course it is. The club surely should have realised that it would be the case, giving players an excuse...

    And I still don't give a ****.

Maybe thats part of their plan, get us so apathetic about the club they can literally do anything they want. :o

Cisse can f**k right off hes not that bloody good, yes scored alot of goals on arrival but last season missed some real sitters, plus his first touch and control are awful get rid if he thinks hes a superstar!
would have ba over him any day of the week

Vuckic's pass to Gouffran was fantastic. Have him starting up front this season please.

Papiss Cisse fined £500 by NUFC after snubbing Wonga logo. With interest fine rises to £330,000 if not paid by Saturday

Cisse obviously feels he can't give 1356%

The Qu'ran clearly states "thou shall not charge interest unless it's under 10% apr".
So nothing wrong with wearing Virgin Money

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,746 ✭✭✭TaosHum

If the club were seriously worried at the prospect of Cisse leaving then they should have let him wear a jersey without the sponsor, ala Freddie Kanoute at Seville.

But, they seem happy to let him walk if any offers come in. And his inevitable replacement will be Darren Bent

Liverpool linked with ben arfa agian the star quoting L'Equipe,

What odd are we to go down?

I really fear for the club, no inbounds (yet) similar to last summer

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,746 ✭✭✭TaosHum

If you believe the rumours, a €4m fee for Gomis has been accepted

  • Registered Users Posts: 980 ✭✭✭Seannew1

Coming to the end of July and not one senior player has been signed and we're currently losing 3-0 before half time to some Portuguese team who no disrespect to I've never heard of. Lessons have not been learnt from last year evidently.

and we create nothing going forward as usual but persist on playing the past it Jonas. Our shaky defense dragging our forwards back to cover. Its a recurring theme.

What we need now is long ball

The lesson from last year is the grey haired dunce standing on the line,
right about now he will be lining up his usual post match interview excuses

I'm not watching the game myself. Following Lee Ryder's commentary on twitter and just had to laugh when he wrote, "Jonas and Marveaux not offering any support to Gouffran".

Very true but also we haven't signed anyone. Our thin squad has got even thinner since the end of the season and I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if no strikers were signed.

and the answer to our probelms is.....

    Drum roll.....

    Fcuking Obertan

If this performance isn't evidence enough to Ashley and Kinnear we need new players, I don't know what is.

Lads if you take pre-seasons friendlies serious and think they reflect what the upcoming season will bring then you need a kick up the a**e.

Fitness is the most important thing in these games - but for Rio Ave, it's a huge opportunity for their players to try impress both their own, and our coaches. It's like a Cup final to them having Premier League stars come to their backyard - Cabaye, etc.

I'm quietly confident for the coming season.

According for SSN, we're meeting Remy's representatives next week as well - but Gomis and Bent could happen soonish. (By Wednesday). Can't see us signing three forwards, so probably Bent/Gomis and Remy but who knows..

    KTF.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,710 ✭✭✭✭Paully D

A bit embarrassing for Newcastle to be chasing Remy 6 months after he couldn't even be bothered to get out of bed to meet with the club. There'd be a serious amount of backtracking from the vast majority of fans who said they were glad he chose the money at QPR and that you had dodged a bullet after he got injured too :pac:

That's not really my point, our squad isn't and won't be good enough to compete next year. When we needed people to come on and change the game today, we had to call on Ameobi and Obertan for example, two players who shouldn't be near the first team. What is also worrying me is the fact so much faith is being put on people like Vuckic, Sammy Ameobi and Dummett as opposed to signing new players. Pardew admitted last recently he put too much faith in younger players and when it mattered they couldn't step up to the plate. Why is this happening again? I wouldn't have huge faith in the players aforementioned either!!

To be honest, I'd happily not have him, he's a bit overrated and his attitude as you've mentioned stinks.

Not that embarassing at all really, especially for the club if they manage to sign him up for a few million quid less.
His move didn't really turn out great for QPR either mind.

I don't really care or not if we get him to be honest - but isn't that football? They backtrack all the time - you lot are well used to it at the Stadium of Light :pac:

I we get Gomis I'd be happy, could prove a beast.

Sean none of the above are good enough! vuckic totally overrated, ameobi is complete crap runnin around like a headless chicken and drummett is now the greatest thing ever(his contract was to expire this summer got a 1 year extension)
We should be looking at at least 2 decent wingers to supply whoever is up front as last year we couldnt create anything, i could be wrong but we created the least or second least chances last year and also were in the top 3 in the long ball league

Doocey rio ave finished in the top 6 in portugal, im sure they were trying to impress, but are our guys so good they dont need to impress or bother at all maybe? Should our guys who narrowly avoided going down not be bursting themselves to prove that they are better than they showed last year?
I know it was not our first 11 but there were a good number of first team(or very close to first team) starters.
Why is it ok to get beat 3-1?

Yeah agree totally, and I've never said any different, they aren't up to scratch. It's like Pardew is trying to prove they have what it takes but is in denial.
Let's see how Pardew views this game in his "fantastic pre-season preparation".

Its got nothing to do with it being pre season or the opposition!

Its the same tactics, the same past it players, the same defensive lapses and the players are tired line being peddled already!

    No lessons learned

Yeah I think he'd be a spot on signing to be honest. 1 in 2 over the last couple of seasons and he's been effective in Europe. Hopefully you don't get him, but it seems very likely now.

It will be all tied up until Joe Kinnear pulls the plug on the deal citing difficulties in pronouncing his first name as the reason for cancelling the move :pac:

That was probably Phil Bardsley with black face paint. He'll go to any lengths to get his fix of roulette :pac:

More evidence Cisse just wants to engineer a move away and making the club's sponsor a scapegoat.

  • Registered Users Posts: 980 ✭✭✭Seannew1

In other news, with impending transfers looking like a no go at the minute, will this be the team for the city game?(provided Cabaye isn't sold off in the meantime).

    Krul

Debuchy --- Taylor--- Coloccini --- Santon

Sissoko ---Tiote --- Cabaye --- Gutierrez

    Ben Arfa

    Gouffran

    Subs: Elliot,Williamson,Haidara,Marveaux, Vuckic,Obertan, Ameobi.

Is this squad thin or thin??

This is utter crap. Sammy is absolutely useless. How we let Ferguson go on loan and not this chancer is beyond me.

Its been tasty. Forward dragged Colo down. He took exception to that. They square up and Colo grabs him with both hands around the throat. Both sent off. Ridiculous stuff
