Pretty dire stuff throughout to be honest - Santon looked the liveliest, that bout it.

3 game ban for Colocinni if the referee decides to report that red card to the FA. We got caught out like that with Chopra before.

Am I the only 1 who would like to santon playing left wing with haidara or mbiwa at left back? the guy has loads of pace and power a decent cross and strike(bale)

Nope. Wigan game made a pretty strong case for why he should be pushed higher up the pitch.

Anyone Newcastle fans seen any youth team football and have opinion on JJ Hooper. You have released him and the Cobblers have signed him. He is only other striker on our books!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,979 ✭✭✭Vurnon San Benito

^ Big things were expected of him if I remember correctly, but nothing ever happened to an extent where he impressed enough to merit a breakthrough.

Haven't seen him play, but he's probably found his level now. Best of luck to him.

Good News: Cisse is back in training, Wonga debacle has been resolved

More stupidity: Adam Campbell is being send on a year load to a championship club. Just as well as we are loaded with strikers ATM

    More drivel from Pardew.
"It’s been a fantastic week. I honestly could not have asked more from the players. The attitude and work we’ve put in means that without question we are stronger than we were this time last year.

"We will continue that through pre-season because we need to be really, really ready to make our mark when the season begins.

"I am more confident than I was a year ago when I felt apprehensive about the Europa League because it was a leap into the unknown, and little did I know that we would suffer injuries as well that compounded our problem.

"But this year, without that distraction, it feels as if there is no mystery to the season. We know what we’ve got in front of us.

"We've got Premier League games, a League Cup programme and a FA Cup programme and we can cope with that easily with the squad we have.”

    **** this club.

If campbell is going out on loan another striker has got to come in, cisse and shola just are not enough, personally i would really like remy but gomis would be great aswell......... or both

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,161 ✭✭✭✭M5

And if we were not going to sign anyone WTF was Kinnear hired for?

We lost Ba in Jan and he has not been replaced. If Campbell goes we really need 2 new arrivals. I doubt any striker would be tussling for a position in the team with Shola

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,161 ✭✭✭✭M5

Oh, and so far this window we have lost

    Simpson
    Perch
    Harper

    and Ferguson on loan

4 senior players gone from a squad that had major depth issues that almost lead to relegation, and what do the club do. Exactly the opposite of the logical approach

that would be true in any other club but most likely we will sign 2 new strikers and pardew will decide the time is right to give shola a chance :pac:

Mentioned that earlier (im not all doom and gloom)

Not sure if he got a new contract, more resolved dispute (the fact no one bid for him was purely coincidental of course)

I'd imagine Newcastle will have told him he won't be getting paid because of a breach of contract if he refuses to wear the shirt and he's realised he better come crawling back with his tail between his legs before it affected him financially. He also didn't have a leg to stand on publically when the picture of him in Aspers came out.

Will Newcastle still persue a striker now that Cisse is staying?

well lads any clue how to go about gettin tickets to a home game

    cisse just isnt enough

ameobi just does not cut it, and gouf either. though i have more faith in the latter.

we need another striker or two without doubt

Check the official website for the date tickets go on sale for what game you want.

Call the ticket office that morning and should be easy peasy.

In fairness i think gouf has done well since arriving, he scored goals and looks like he has settled well and got up to the pace quite quickly, i would have thought he has prob been the best of the January signings so far

Think your spot on there Paully! The casino thing left him in a very weak position.

Your asking us to try to predict what the club is going to do based on logic :D

The encouraging news is that we are in deep discussions for Gomis and Bent, I know that for a fact.

Oddly enough, still keeping tabs on Gignac despite the fact he doesn't want to join us and he's not a €12m man IMO.

I'm getting slightly more confident - Cissé debacle put to bed is good news, and reports from all the journos following our Portuguese tour say the lads in top shape, both mentally and physically - hopefully this will show in early stages of the season.

According to talkSPORT's Moose, Remy has agreed a move to us as well, but I'd expect movement with Gomis/Bent before Remy.

However, Pards wants left sided reinforced and up top. I get the feeling Remy would play wide left, and Gomis in the middle.

Keep the aul faith lads, we've got the best DoF in the country working away all hours :pac:

The Bent signing would be very interesting IMO.

Yes, he'll score goals, but he does need the team built specifically to create chances for him. That's not necessary a bad thing for a striker who will score around 18 league goals a season if he plays every week, but it may either mean Cisse playing out of position or on the bench, and mid-table teams like us can't really afford to have a high earner not on the field, so it will most likely be the former.

Also, he could be a tricky personality to manage. When he's confident and feels wanted he is very good, but when things get difficult or he loses interest he is basically useless because all he is is a goalscorer and offers nothing else. Again, not necessarily a bad thing, but there's nothing in between with him. I would argue that due to his Sunderland connections, that your fans won't exactly be patient or supportive if he goes through a barren spell (it's always the way up in the north-east when players cross the divide). When he came up to play us with Villa a couple of years ago the fans gave him hell and he was atrocious, he's not the biggest character which may prove a problem given everything in the past.

It will either go really well or prove to be a poor piece of business IMO. Just like Bent's play itself, I can't see anything inbetween.

As for Moose, well this exchange just sums him and his information up :pac:

    http://www.bluekipper.com/news/club_news/4696-everton_threaten_legal_action_over_moyes_links_to_spurs.html

Last night when the rumours about Harry Redknapp leaving Spurs hit the airwaves, TalkSPORT presenter Ian Abrahams made a statement on twitter regarding David Moyes and Spurs. Some time later Paul Tyrrell, Everton's new Director of Communications, tweeted back to 'the moose.' The exchange is listed below.

Ian Abrahams‏ @Moose_talkSPORT: "It is my understanding Spurs maay have already met with David Moyes today and that Moyes compensation has been agreed with Everton FC."

Paul Tyrrell‏ @TyrrellPaul: "this is an absolute lie Ian. I expected better from you. If you repeat it, you can expect legal action from EFC.

Ian Abrahams‏@Moose_talkSPORT: "ok Paul sorry and I withdraw it"

Ian Abrahams‏@Moose_talkSPORT: "is that ok and I will not mention it again"

Ian Abrahams‏@Moose_talkSPORT: "I withdraw the comments about David Moyes I made a short while ago leaving Everton for Spurs"

    Paul Tyrrell‏@TyrrellPaul: "thank you."

A piece in the chronicle i found pretty interesting, pardew talking about Gouffran and formations
    http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/newcastle-uniteds-yoan-gouffran-eyeing-5325488
Pardew told the Chronicle: “I think all strikers want to be the No 9 who gets the goals and plays through the middle.
“That’s a very important role for this team.
“Gouff has shown that he can give us quality in that area.
“And depending on our business, he could get a good start there.”

Former West Ham United manager Pardew said: “I hope to play with two strikers this year more often than not.
I want competition for those two players. Gouff will definitely offer that."

Few interesting lines in there, doesnt sound too confident in getting another striker in and if its 442 will he go with
benny tiote cabs guti as a midfield 4?
guti will play soi presume it will be sissoko/benny rotation or sissoko as a central midfield impact sub?
Darren bent and cisse would not in my opinion complement eachother either, bent is a poacher and i really think that would maybe best describe cisse aswell, think maybe a deeper lying forward would suit cisse better(not sure who) or a target man to play alongside him.
Tom Ince would be a player I would like to see brought in or sinclair from city, we really do need a natural left winger brought in so hopefully we will have something happen with that really soon aswell
We have something like 24 days till we start our season against city and if we want to give signings a chance to bed in they need to come in now

Also rumor on twitter pardew has fallen out with kinnear over slow transfer buissness

Well it's pretty well publicised about Bent, and Gomis has to choose a club now, with three lined up to take him.

Yeah Paully, Moose is a some nutter, been known to get things very wrong.

That said, I do think we are in for Rémy, but he's not a priority.

Tom Ince would be good, but hopefully we'll get one 'over the line' in the next five days.

So it seems Gomis is dead in the water, I was suprised they were gonna pay that much for any1 in the last year of their contract, hopefully remy "is nearly over the line" and another striker aswell

Actually agree with pulling out of the Gomis transfer. Have no idea what Lyon are thinking rejecting £6.9m for a player who is currently AWOL, out of contract in one year and will be 28 in a few weeks.

Longer they hold onto him the more he decreases in value, especially when it seems he has no intention of signing a new contract.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,979 ✭✭✭Vurnon San Benito

Couldn't agree more - pay fúcking €10m for a 27 year-old in the last year of his contract? Go back to la la land Lyon, they're in no position to hold out for a fee when they desperately want rid. Ridiculous stuff.

An idea: verbally agree a move, let Gomis refuse a move to anyone else, and then sign him in January for €2m :)

Taken from facebook dont know the original link, would love to be able to make hopefully im home and not workin

Steve Harper will celebrate his 20 years as a Newcastle player when a team of former Magpies superstars meets an AC Milan Legends side.

Alan Shearer, Les Ferdinand, Rob Lee and Faustino Asprilla will pull on the black and white stripes once again for a charity game at St James' Park on Wednesday, September 11.

They will be in good company too with the AC Milan Glorie squad featuring Franco Baresi, Palo Maldini, Alessandro Costacurta and Andriy Shevchenko.

All the proceeds from the event will be divided between three charities close to the 38-year-old Hull keeper's heart - the Great North Children's Hospital, the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and the Newcastle United Foundation.

Harper, who made his final appearance for Newcastle against Arsenal on the final day of last season, said: "This match is a massive honour for me.

"I had a fantastic send-off against Arsenal at the end of last season, so this is really my opportunity to say thank you to a region which has given me so much support and to use my time to raise as much money as possible for three incredible causes.

"To have some of the best players to have ever worn the black and white shirt back at St James' Park alongside some of the greatest names from Milan is fantastic, and with every penny raised going to three important north-east charities, I hope as many people as possible can come along and enjoy it.

"I'm sure it will be a special night."

Baresi, who will captain the Milan side said: "I would like to firstly congratulate Mr Steve Harper on his 20 years with Newcastle United.

"I was very happy to hear of the possibility of AC Milan Glorie travelling and playing against a Newcastle United legends team at such a famous stadium.

"I know the passion of Newcastle fans and I know of the club's history and the love of football in the city, so I congratulate Steve and wish the fans and Newcastle United a magnificent occasion."

Nice quote in The Guardian after Cisse decided he could wear a Wonga shirt after all:
Perhaps Cissé will enjoy a prolific season after all, particularly if Alan Pardew has taken a leaf out of a pay-day loan company's book and told him to go on the field and give it 4,217%.
