Poxy FA - Violent Conduct Charge for Cabaye
The FA have charged Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye with violent conduct following an incident in Saturday's FA Cup fourth-round defeat at Brighton.

The FA confirmed the French midfielder has been charged after allegedly kicking out at the Seagulls' Egyptian defender Adam El-Abd.

A statement said: "Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye has been charged with violent conduct following an incident in the FA Cup fourth round tie against Brighton Hove Albion.

"Cabaye was involved in an incident involving Brighton's Adam El-Abd during the FA Cup tie at the Amex Stadium on Saturday 28 January.

"Cabaye has until 6pm on Tuesday, January 31 2012 to respond to the charge."

The 26-year-old faces a three-match ban if he accepts or is subsequently convicted of the charge, with Newcastle well aware that the penalty could be increased if he decides to fight the allegation and fails.

El-Abd was left with a cut lip in the incident, although referee Lee Probert took no action at the time.

Cabaye would be a huge miss for Magpies boss Alan Pardew, particularly with regular central midfield partner Cheick Tiote still away on African Nations Cup duty with Ivory Coast.

The pair have played a major role in Newcastle's rise to sixth in the Barclays Premier League table and the absence of both at the same time would prove a significant loss.

Should Cabaye plead guilty, he would miss Wednesday night's Barclays Premier League trip to Blackburn, Sunday's home clash with Aston Villa and the tough visit to Tottenham the following weekend.

The France international joined the club in a £4.3million switch from French double winners Lille last summer and has been a big hit on Tyneside.

Indeed, along with team-mate Demba Ba, he has been described as one of the bargains of the season and has further enhanced the reputation of the club's recruitment team.

Cabaye's first season in England has not been without controversy, however, with the Frenchman having already served a one-match suspension for reaching five bookings and established a reputation for, at times, over-zealous tackling.

Can't argue with that to be honest. Needs to learn to control his temper. Accept it, learn from it and don't miss the bloody Sunderland game.

Ach I'm not too sure, havent seen it since the game but at full speed it didnt look that bad, I hear that the Brighton player had a burst lip but i think that's from Cabayes head when they fell.

Defender in and Lovenkrands away is the talk today!!

Nothing much stirring in the north east tonight. I think the Mariappa deal is not going to make it with both clubs not budging on the price. Will be nice to see really at least were not panic buying a useless defender.

Thank god that january transfer window is slammed shut for another year, anyway back to business tonight, huge improvement needed tonight from all involved,i think we'll probably line up like this,

    Krul
    Simpson --- Colo --- Willo --- Santon

    Ben Arfa---Raylor --- Guthrie --- Jonas

    Ameobi -- Best---

1 month ago,I would have given us an easy win here, now I'm not so sure,I think the fact we have two wasters up front,if we are to score it'll end up coming from midfield.Anyway I hope I'm proved wrong, big improvements needed from Simspon,Gutierrez,Best and Ameobi.

Can't even see why we appealed it, personally thought it was a red as soon as he did it.

Pardew is right in one regard though; ESPN certainly highlighted it over and over again.

3 points tonight would be lovely!

    HTL.

Spot on with the team pal.

Wonder if we'll set up like this at some point.
    Krul

    Simmo --- Colo --- Willo --- Santon

    Raylor --- Guthrie --- Jonas

    Ben Arfa

    Best --- Shola

Not very optimistic about tonight's game, looking at the team sheets now, good news for us that Samba and Goodwillie are not playing. Have a feeling its not gonna be our night though possibly a 2-0 or 3-1 win for Blackburn. Its similar to that bad feeling I had before the Fulham game, lets hope the 2 boys up front do the business for us tonight.

Yeah could very well be the case if we're looking for a goal later on in the game, but definitely early on,Pardew will want the midfield to be tight and solid,if we're looking for an equaliser Ben Arfa will definitely move up to the hole behind best and shola.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,161 ✭✭✭✭M5

Blackburn havebeen superb up till the final ball/shot. We can not handle them, their pressing has been superb, their recycled possession and 2nd ball stats must be through the roof

Newcastle extremely lucky to be in the game never mind winning. Huge improvement needed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,342 ✭✭✭✭That_Guy

Raylor simply can't play in the centre. He's bloody useless there. Best has been more of a hinderance than a help too.

Bar Krul, Simmo and Colo we've been dirt. A serious change needed.

Where is the bloody support in those key areas? Frustrating stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,161 ✭✭✭✭M5

What is the game plan here? There is no closing, no urgency and the passing has been tripe. The front two have been anonymous bar giving it away any time it gets up there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,342 ✭✭✭✭That_Guy

Bar that Ryan Taylor shot that was deflected in, have we had a shot since?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,342 ✭✭✭✭That_Guy

Jaysus. Thought that was in.
