Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Shakhtar didn't look too rusty last night! :)

They cruised their group - D-W-W-W-W-L, only lost the last game to Rapid Wein because they had already qualified (the only points Rapid Wein got in the group). Finished above Leverkusen who are one of the best teams in Germany this year drawing with them away and beating them 2-0 at home.

I think this may be a tougher tie than we expect!

Decent side alright, just think if Newcastle bring the intensity Pardew said they would, we should have too much for them.

In saying that, seeing the lineup has subdued my confidence.

    Obertan... useless

    Cisse cannot get a break.

    Cisse cannot get a break.

Yeah, that's happened at least twice this season. Can't be easy to take when our in a poor run of form. Seems like everything is going against him

    Welcome back Tiote.

Spill glaringly obvious which players aren't doing it for us. Cisse failing to finish, obertan and Jonas wasting good positions out wide by failing to get the ball into the box

There will be a red in this game

Papa having a great game at the back for Metalist!

We need to start playing corners short... clearly a waste of time putting it in to the mixer for us

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,774 ✭✭✭cadete

poor decision on the offside, look good at times, but as it has been said wasting possession on the wings would like to see ober in particular gettin it into the box early,

Strange game, first goal will be crucial. Both teams are committed to attack and leaving some big openings.

As for Newcastle, M5 has already pointed it, same problems going forward. No end product from Jonas or Obertan and Cisse unable to finish.

Jonas has actually done well since I criticised him

    He scores when he's off,
    He scores when he's off,
    Papiss Cisse,
    He scores when he's off....

This is as bad a refereeing performance as I have ever seen. Shocking

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,846 ✭✭✭Moneymaker

I say this without hyperbole, but this is some of the worst officiating i've ever seen. Beyond a disgrace.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,746 ✭✭✭TaosHum

    Awful officiating tonight.

The hits just keep on coming....
If I had bet on a draw we would be coasting this...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,161 ✭✭✭✭M5

Well the ref has most likely cost us the tie... figures

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,161 ✭✭✭✭M5

    Ah come on...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,846 ✭✭✭Moneymaker

Cisse is cursed. Unreal. He honestly could have had 5 tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,723 ✭✭✭bazual

What a chance to win it, he couldnt hit a barn door with a banjo at the minute unless he is offside.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,161 ✭✭✭BetterCallSaul

    Ya have to laugh

He scored twice tonight to be fair. Should of had 5 though.

Don't fancy us getting anything out there next week, especially with Southampton a few days later.

    Very frustrating night.

Video fcuking replays fcuking yesterday. "Perfect refereeing" my hole

nil nil not what we wanted but clean sheet is a plus

will be interesting to see what kind of side we field in the return leg with Southampton on the sunday

True, but that's just his luck at the moment. He hits it straight at the keeper far too often for me but tonight he just had no luck along with the rest of the team. We really need HBA back for a bit of creativity in the final third.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,846 ✭✭✭Moneymaker

I think we played alright. They never really troubled us and we could have easily had 3-4.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,161 ✭✭✭BetterCallSaul

Not the end of the world if we go out tbh, because we wont get by Anzhi in the next round anyway. League is priority until we get the magic 40.

Are we on TV on Thursday, I'm assuming we're on a 5pm kickoff given the match in the Ukraine.

Kickoff is at 6 and its live on ESPN, but due to contractual issues, I don't think it can be shown in the ROI.

    Correct.

Don't think we're live on any channels. ITV are showing Spurs and Liverpool. Same with 3e I'd imagine.

Really??? What contractual issues have ESPN got with ROI??? We're fans too.....
    So updates on SSN then.
    Boo urns.

It's been like this for a few years now. I think it's because Irish channels are showing the game simultaneously but that's not the case with Newcastle games unless Setanta Ireland are showing it.
