    Good article here on Romeu

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2011/aug/04/oriol-romeu-chelsea-barcelona

And now we are linked with another defensive midfielder when we need creativity!

    http://www.sportsvib...idfielder-9764/

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is set to raid former club Porto for Brazilian midfielder Fernando Francisco Reges, according to Sky Italia.

The defensive midfield ace is being chased by the likes of Juventus and Inter Milan, but Villas-Boas is confident that he will be able to persuade the player to choose a move to Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old has been with the Portuguese club since 2007 and in recent seasons has cemented his place in the first team supporting the likes of Raul Meireles, Lucho Gonzalez and more recently the likes of Joao Moutinho and Fredy Guarin.

Fernando shone under the new Chelsea boss and is now being targeted as a direct replacement for Ghana international Michael Essien who has been ruled out for at least six months.

Porto want at least €15million for the former Brazil Under-20 midfielder which is expected to be too rich for the Italian clubs interested but would certainly not put off Chelsea.

The west London club are yet to make any marquee signings and with the transfer window closing soon, Villas-Boas is expected to try and complete a number of deals.

Fernando would provide direct competition for defensive midfielder Jon Obi Mikel who has been linked with move away from Stamford Bridge in the last few weeks.

Our squad needs very little, Young is a good addition at a reasonable price for An Englich player. He adds options and meands Giggs can be used exclusively as a CM. Signings should be thought of as long term investments - in 2 years time both Giggs and Park won't be there.

The window isn't shut yet either.

Giggs is your Lampard. You desperately need just one more good season out of him, as you lack depth in attacking midfield, just like us.
But like you say - we both have time to add.

Its going to be really close between Manchester(s) and Chelsea. Too close to call really.
    Basically comes down to:
    Chelsea - new manager
    Man U - new keeper
    Man City - new striker

LOL, great article martin lipton. I particularly like
"Drogba has been far more impressive throughout the six-game pre-season programme, which ends with tomorrow's friendly at Scottish champions Rangers". No he has not

"Sturridge appears to have leapfrogged Nicolas Anelka and Salomon Kalou in the early-season pecking order and could start at Stoke on the right of an attacking trio completed by Drogba and Malouda". Danny is suspended you genius.

Top quality stuff from the top notch journos, really know their stuff:rolleyes:

    Any news on Barton ?

he could save our season .... the difference between 4th and 5th ....

Well I agree that Drogba has been more of a threat and bagged more goals on tour
Its a tricky one alright though. Unless he starts them both, leaving Torres on the bench will have the rags going mad (As they are already) and dent the boys confidence. But Stoke away - tricky one. You want those 3 points from your first game alright.

So pop pickers Drog or Torres to start?
If Torres starts and scores - it will probably set him up for the season.

I'm going to go with Drogba because of his physicality from the off. He might be subbed later in the game.

It would not suprise me if drogba started against stoke (physicality) and then torres started in the next game at home.

Hopefully, I know we are not in desperate need for lukaku atm but if we dont sign him now then he will end up at madrid and we will never see him in a chelsea shirt. Also with anelka and drogba in their final years this is a good move for chelsea.

This summer shows the club are still thinking long term, courtois, romeu and lukaku. Good stuff

    Still need a playmaker though:rolleyes:

despite him saying that he wont go on loan for a season he may get used to a year on the bench learning from Drogba in training, should hopefully up his game for the next season when he can be challenging properly for that striker spot!

With the amount of strikers we have and if we're playing 4-3-3 then he'll really struggle to even play in the cups, maybe if we've qualified from the champions league groups early he can get a run out!

Reports Zhirkov gone to a Russian club, hope it works out for him there. Had promise but turned in very average performances.

Or maybe one of our existing strikers will be on the way out to make room? ;)
Transfer windows not shut yet and strikers need to be fed bullets

Who is what confuses me, while I jump at the chance to offload Kalou he plays more as a winger for us and as a result will probably get good game time in the 4-3-3, if you replaced him in the squad with Lukaku its not like for like, he wont play on the wing, so you'd need to offload Drogs or Torres and to a lesser extent maybe Anelka!

Just watching Futbol Mundial on Sky Sports 1 now and they're talking to Belletti. He says that Chelsea was the best years of his career and he misses London. Seems a very nice fella.

Bella was a hero, I used to worry sometimes when he came on but he was a great utility player to have.

I'll never forget that goal vs. Spurs.

At least if we don't get Modric, we can expect to see alot more of Yossi & Josh...If Yossi stays fit I can see him being one of our best players...highly underrated!! Be interesting to see how McEachran does if he sticks around.

Since we got Romeu, we shouldn't be seeing Josh in the holding role anymore :)
