Big game, very nervous. Think we can nab something. I hope.

Well it's the best time to be playing them.
We need to win as QPR are 1 up

It's always so tantalising to look at the League table and say, 'Just one win!!!'

Just one win and suddenly the likes of Fulham, Norwich, West Ham are all in range and getting nervous. Look at Sunderland, 4 weeks ago they were relegation candidates and MON was in serious trouble - a few wins and now they're 11th (depending on how results finish)

So come one Villa, just 'one' win and a lot of pressure off and onto others

VILLA: Guzan, Vlaar [c], Clark, Bennett, Baker, Lowton, Westwood, Delph, N'Zogbia, Agbonlahor, Benteke. Subs: Marshall, Bent, Ireland, Lichaj, Holman, Bowery, Bannan.

WBA: Foster, Olsson, McAuley, Jones, Ridgewell, Dorrans, Yacob, Morrison, Brunt [c], Odemwingie, Lukaku. Subs: Popov, Rosenberg, Myhill, Thomas, Thorne, Dawson, Tamas.

Vlaar, Clark and Baker starting. Is that as a 5 man defence, or Clark in midfield, possibly even as LB with Bennett on wing.

Also I hope Gabby is played as a proper CF chasing on Bentekes flick ons

Cracking drive from the big man. Lethal from distance. Keep him away from the box!

    I love that man

How good is Tekkers English btw?

Benteke is giving Olson a terrible time, out-matching his strength every time. And Olson himself is an absolute unit.

    Get in Gabby.

Absolutely gorgeous pass by Westwood to start the move.

Much better but WBA not in the game so the 2nd goal was needed as they will improve at some stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,149 ✭✭✭Patser

Jesus Vlaar must he the best motivational player ever if just his return can do this to a team wide performance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,420 ✭✭✭Doodee

I forgot what this felt like.
Lets hold on for the win.
I'd say late kick off, WBA form and return of Gabby and Vlaar are all contributing factors.

I had Benteke to score first, Villa to win and the total number of goals to be odd in the match.

    I hope it's a definitive 3-0 win.

What odds did you get on that??

Nzogbia playing well, raising his head now and then helps.

Shop-window performance or otherwise, it's about bloody time he has put in a shift.

Can't see any reason he'd be up for sale.

I'd see sixty thousand weekly reasons. Plus how crap he's been, in general.

Exactly. Who else would pay that for him :D
Hope we keep a clean sheet

They were 3 individual bets mate. 10/3 for us to win, 6/1 for Benteke and I can't remember the odd goals.

    1-2, easy for West brom.

Blatant cynical foul on lowdown in the build up. Probert looking straight at it. Fuming.

Saw that but that happens ten times a match.

I'm resigned to not getting the win, saves on disappointment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,797 ✭✭✭✭JPA

    Nzogbia off, Holman on.
Stupid move IMO with Villa getting chances on the counter attack.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,797 ✭✭✭✭JPA

Villa are going to concede a penalty I bet.

How was that not a free out before the goal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,154 ✭✭✭✭Neil3030

A point is a point. Terrible combination of sore luck, poor officiating, absent mindedness and having Bannan on the pitch eventually cost us the win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,535 ✭✭✭Raekwon

Optimistic view: 1 point away from home in a tough local derby is a decent result.

Pessimistic view: Throwing a 2 goal lead away feels like 2 points dropped.

For me the turning point in the game was taking man of the match N'Zogbia off and sticking on Holman who was typically clueless. Also bringing Bannan on for Delph was a head in hands moment, but it did look like he had picked up an injury. It just goes to show how glaring light we are in midfield.

Deja vu with Swansea game, happy to take draw before game, unhappy we didn't get the win, lucky to bit lose.

Out of relegation so positive and we scored 2. Need 2 more at least on Tuesday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,518 ✭✭✭matrim

I think our problems started even before the substitutions. When we came out for the second half we had already lined up with a bigger gap between the defense / midfield and forward line. Because of the gap we weren't closing down as high up the pitch and we allowed West Brom to come at us, this was just inviting pressure and problems.

Overall 2-2 was probably a fair result but I can't help feel like we threw it away again. If we got the win we would have been up to 16th and a few points clear of the relegation zone.

It's glaringly obvious that we need at least a new midfielder and if Randy doesn't sanction the money then it's him that needs to go. He should either back Lambert with money or sack him we don't have time for any messing.

Bennetts marking of Odemwingie for the goal was appalling. Delph getting injured changed it, Bannan did zero and made it easier for West Brom to play through.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,420 ✭✭✭Doodee

Newcastle is a big game. They will need a win after today's performance and so do we. It has the added benefit of taking them into the relegation scrap making every one of their games afterwards an important one. The more teams drawn into the battle the better.

Win against Bradford and I can see the team getting more confidence. Shame about Baler today, would of been interesting to see what 3 rocks in defence would of been like.
Holman and Banana need to be replaced. Just not up to it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,797 ✭✭✭✭JPA

Holman on for N'Zogbia made no sense unless N'zogbia is unfit or was injured.
Ireland would have been a better option to continue to benefit from the counter attacks we were getting.

He looked tired and was barely seen in his last 5-10 mins. He did look good tonight though.

West Brom were dominating after the break, no Villa attacker was involved.

PL isn't blind, clearly CNZ was our best player on the park and he wasn't looking overly pissed off being subbed. He is only back from injury.

Could be right but he's been subbed early frequently this season. As if PL doesn't rate him perhaps.

After today, I don't ever want to see Bannan play for villa again. God awful player.

He could work as a purely attacking player, but in a central 2, dear god no.

I agree, Bannan is about as useful as títs on a bull, he makes Albrighton look like Cristiano Ronaldo FFS.

If we don't get a decent experienced midfield player in this window then Randy Lerner can stick that £600m that he got from selling the Browns up his jacksie (ironic?) and fúck off back to America. The bloke has as much passion for Villa as Anna Nicole Smith had for her 90 year old (ex) husband.
