Given, Beye, Ireland, N'Zogbia, Heskey, Hutton, Warnock... the list is seemingly endless.

That would indicate they were average or poor before they got there, which is not the case for anyone you mentioned in your post.

Well now in fairness, Hutton, Heskey and Beye were all ****e before joining Villa. Ireland had talent, but his risky temperament was well documented. N'Zogbia would be a slightly more reliable Ireland. Warnock, imo was the biggest let down in terms of what he was and what he became. Given was always solid until his age caught up with him.

Happy enough to see him move on, he showed plenty of promise, but he's barely a premiership quality player IMO.

Did the deal for Given to Doncaster fall through? It was reported as a done deal about 2 weeks ago, but no sign of it being officially confirmed...

Gas to think Given, Dunne, Hutton and Bannan being cleared from the books would reduce the wage bill by nearly 10m a year!

That gives us Arsenal (away), Chelsea (away) and Liverpool in the first 7 days of the season! Yikes.

Pretty sure we'll be bottom by then, but at least we are getting a few easy games out of the way while the new boys bed in.

McLeish signed Given (55k), Hutton (45k) and Nzogbia (55k)... he was as bad as MON I think

Definitely not needed now but probably was some truth in it while Benteke's future was uncertain.

If nobody else is in for James McCarthy come the end August a move should be made as he would not be looking for excessive wages.

I had forgotten Hutton was signed by Big Eck , I think Nzogbia would have got that anywhere he went tbf after the two seasons he had with Wigan before coming to Villa to not pass the ball

good auld Lambert, honestly never heard of him and yet I dont think that means he proabably isn't any good (which is the trademark of a PL signing). Italian U-21 center back too so Okore & Vlaar will have competition for sure this season if hes signed (along with back ups Clark & Baker) which could be very important with Okore needing to get bedded in as they say

He has the skill to be a PL player but just hasn't shown it enough. When he's played for us he's often been ok but very rarely been good.
