We already have players like this in Dunne, Collins, Clark & Cuellar (if he stays).

What we need is a creative midfielder who can give the striker(s) a dig out every once in a while. We haven't had a player like this since Paul Merson left the club in 2002 and I think that Charlie Adam would be ideal for Villa in this sort of role.

we've got ireland who's ten times the player adam will ever be if we can get his head sorted though, that should be a priority in the first few weeks back training - try to establish if he's worth keeping

    That's a big if!

True but he was only 19 at the time. Anyway McLeish gave Adam his first Scottish cap so he obviously has some sort of respect for him as a player.

it is, but i think the manager will be looking to see what he has at his disposal before dipping into the transfer market. though that said, i think we can expect a keeper in the next week or 2

I know Adam is a risk, but he carried Blackpool imo. Much like Parker at West ham, much like Laursen that year for us.

we are missing that type of player right now.
You are right to a certain extent. Adam was brilliant for Blackpool but to be fair he had the perfect midfield partner in David Vaughan who was also immense all season for them. Adam's passing and set piece ability make him a very attractive player but you have to have the right man in midfield with him to make it work.

New signings needed but more trickier can he rehabilitate Dunne,Ireland Collins & Warnock

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,661 ✭✭✭✭Helix

warnock never deserves to pull on the jersey again

and we should only keep one of dunne and collins, when they play together theyre a liability

United fan here. Can anybody tell me if you think Young is good enough for United. Being honest i think their is much better value out their for the same money but i dont watch Villa enough to really know how good he is.

I rate Young highly and will be sorry to see him go. He is a quality player and I reckon under Fergie will blossom, in which case £15m will seem like a bargain.

Yes he is. I think Young is getting a slightly hard deal because with only a year left most think he should be cheaper but if you ignore his contract and just thinkis signing Young for that price and having him for the peak (if not all) the remainder of his career is worth the quoted price imo.

Another 2 areas that I think he is judged harshly are his tracking back and sometimes his all round ability.

Firstly he works rediculously hard on a pitch, covers huge amounts of ground and is always defending as well as wanting to lead the attacks but its if he moans or loses the ball that often get focused on.

Secondly most people dont recognise just how often for Villa he is double marked or man markedout of a game, with a better standard of player around him less attension will payed to him so he should get more chances.

having said all that im happy with the money and not too sad to see the backof him but i do think Ferguson (who is a master at rotation) will get the best out of him and with Giggs now a part time CM and many cup competitions plus his versatility I think he will be a very solid addittion to your squad

first signing good as done according to the monchengladbach director
Yes, the two clubs are in agreement. We have reached an agreement on a transfer fee, it will be significantly higher than the sum Borussia paid in 2007 for Michael Bradley.

It now will be only a short while before the deal is completed, because Aston Villa just unveiled their new coach last weekend. And he plans to speak with Michael before contracts are signed.

In the time he was here Bradley didn't really show much to make us sign him, but I think we didn't really play him in his proper position. He may have been an ok singing but I'm not annoyed that we aren't signing him

+1. The fact that he couldn't get in ahead of Petrov or NRC says it all. One start and it was a terrible performance.

Leaves the door open for Craig Gardner to finally join his childhood club now!

Free agent Mahamadou Diarra is keen on a move to Stoke or Fulham after the former Real Madrid midfielder ended his six-month contract at Monaco.
    Full story: Metro/BBC Gossip

If he was keen on a move to one of them and is free, he could surely be an option for Villa imo instead of Bradley who I thought could offer something but tbh expected more of him on Loan.

It's the owner that says he is not for sale, but it could be just to jack the price up.

    Definitely.

He was the best US player at the World Cup last year by a mile and judging from his performance against the World Cup winners only last month, he could definitely do a job for Villa.

'Moves around and knits things together well, box-to-box, good attitude and energy, eye for a through ball and doesn't shirk a tackle. Everything you need from a central midfielder basically...

I'll actually be quite disappointed if he doesn't join.

huh.gifIf he was good enough then why couldn't he get in the side while he was here. Its not like our midfield was playing well or we had good midfield players.

You can't judge a player properly from international matches either especially world cups/euro championships (IMO).

You'd wonder who made the final decision on Bradley. Eck has hardly made the call without input from the coaches. And to be honest, I'd trust their judgement.

Would the coaches not have been asked first when they bid for him?

Some nice touches and decisions, but did you notice how much time and space he was afforded by what was clearly a half-motivated Spanish midfield?

And did you notice the scoreline by the end of the clip? :pac:

I think he was signed on loan with a view to a permanent transfer. We had the option to sign him and turned it down, which to me is a clear indication that the coaching staff (Sid Cowans et al) told McLeish that he wasn't good enough and to cancel the deal.

Yep, which is the main reason we're not re-negotiating with him over a new contract. That and his big wage. We've got Westwood in now on a free on half the wages.

This operation he's having now is supposed to sort his knee. He won't be fully fit 'till October.

Personally I think he'll end up at Arsenal as you need a number 1 now, whilst Arsenal can afford to wait.

But FFS surely neither club would touch a player like that?

I really don't want Gordon at the club to be honest. He's probably a talented keeper, but what's the point in buying someone so injury prone.

Surely we could get Foster or Greene for a reasonable price? Not sure about either, but also not sure who else is available.

I thought people didn't want Green? Think he might be on a free (or has FA left on his contract).

Foster I'm indifferent about. Must say that Gordon can be sensational on his day. Might not be the worst having Gordon as the no.1 with Guzan covering for him when injured.
Either Gordon, Al-Habsi or Given plz

    Genting!?!?!?!

I'd agree with you. Gordon is a great keeper but he just can't seem to stay fit for any length at all. He would be a great signing if he could stay fit though.
