Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi, Im currently studying humanities in DKIT and the 3 subject I took on for 1st year were History, English and Archaeology. Next year (sept) I have to narrow it down to two subjects. I was thinking History and Archaeology be the best combination and I thinking about going down the path of working in the heritage/Museum sector. I have for the month of July work experience at an excavation site and hoping to help coordinate a event for heritage week for my town alongside with the Heritage officer. Anyways I know things are pretty bleak regarding jobs and particularly this area of things but do you ever really think things will improve in Ireland? Or maybe Things will improve but only aboard. Cos I've been thinking a lot about the future and don't want all this work experience to go to waste if you know what I mean.

There are a couple of threads about this already. There is plenty of work in archaeology and heritage if you are willing to do it for free. I wouldnt expect to easily get a job in heritage ever again.

Humanities isnt a career subject unless you want to go down the academic route and even then dont expect it to pay off for a very long time.

I dont mean to sound rude, but thats is very pessimistic. But Im am willing to do work for free as I hope next summer and following summer to build up heritage work experience (free) for my C.V. I kinda got from the view of your post that I should just give up now and quit my course but I could never do that and Im definitely not going to give up that easily.

No seriously, all the best in what you plan to do but I thought you were looking for advice from people who did exactly the same thing. there is another thread on the forum that's been going for a while you may want to have a look at. Your life plan sounds exactly like mine 5 years ago.

If I had a time machine I would never have done archaeology in college and kept it as a passing interest. Modding this forum is all I have to show for years of volunteering, working for archaeology companies & state bodies, a degree, a masters, a few conference papers given and about 20000 euro in undegrad & postgrad fees.
