Hi, need some advice on something im doing soon. Ive to relay wall cappings which have come loose. Thing is though the underneath of them have a very smoothe surface and wouldnt get enough grip on them. It was done before by someone by using basic cement which has resulting in them becoming loose. Can anything be put through the cement mix to sort this out ?

I would have thought well laid cappings would stay stuck with a basic 3:1 mortar mix (with the underside of the capping dampened prior to setting in place. Are they getting a hammering from kids hopping over them?

You could grind off the super smooth surface/cut some shallow grooves using a diamond concrete disc on a 4" angle grinder. Both grinder and disc are relatively cheap items nowdays.

i use a 3-1 mix with a bit of uni-bond to help stick.wet back of caps and dont have mortar to dry.will hold forever

the capping is only 2'' thick so dont want to grind in case it breaks, ill try the uni bond

In fairness, you'll need a decent key to stop the cappings coming loose again
