On the longest day of the year, people gather to watch the sun set, beat drums, chant and dance.
I was up there last year, brought my son and we had a ball, great atmosphere and there was a special part for the kids where a man tells stories In character of the history and myths of Tara. Then they had the waking o the spirits where the kids dance around a ring of stones.
There was also alot of trad music and a mass of some sort in the church.
All in all a great night to which I will return this year.

but, if you are going up, the parking is a bit mad there as there will be a large crowd up there for the evening, so if you can find a decent parking space away from the main entrance, then go for it.

the road leading from the N3 up the hill to the main entrance as nuts last year and blocked up for quite a while - due to people abandoning their cars everywhere.

How early would one want to get there for parking?

The earlier you get there the later you get home as you will be stuck unless you leave before the crowd.
There is no organisation when it comes to parking and very little common sense from some people.
Get up there at least an hour before sunset but choose wisely where to park so you don't get blocked in.
