Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hey guys,

I guess this is a C&C but its more I just wanted your opinion on the photos below, especially with the way in which the clouds/sky has come out on the images..

I'm not particularly happy with these shots at all, but I think the sky does look a bit weird in the photos below and I wanted to find your opinions on why they came out as they did?? Can anyone shed some light on why they've come out this way - is it down to the filter I have on the lense or my metering method or ??? I'm still learning as I go so please go easy :o

Camera is a 5DMK2 with 24-70mm lense. No PP and only shot in Jpeg as I only had a 2GB card on me that day.

any thoughts/help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

hiya, my first impressions are that theres nothing to lead the eye into the photo, nothing of interest in the frame. its all very samey, the clouds dont look weird to me, just clouds really. sorry if im being blunt, im not trying to be mean.
maybe if they were converted into b+w and the contrast turned up a bit it would make the sky stand out a bit more and be more dramatic. but i dont think theres enough foreground interest in the shots.

Although the clouds look good considering you've done no post processing I find the composition rather unemphatic. I think you should panostitch and go for a wider ratio. That way the flat landscape could look more panroamic and more interesting.

    I'll be honest with you, that's a waste of a 5D MkII!

Thanks for the feedback, like I said, they certainly are and I acknowledge the fact that they're dreadful shots, but I just wanted more info on why the clouds came out the way they did. Maybe its the monitor I'm looking at them with, the clouds just look particularly awful, especially some of the greyish areas and the way they came out.

Either way, thanks for the good and honest feedback :o

Like I said, I'm still learning as I go along (it's obvious I've a long way to go) and I know that it's a serious waste of a decent camera, but either way, I'm trying to improve and learn and that's why I've posted these shots, I know the composition of the shots are awful etc they're shots that I'd normally delete straight away but just wanted some feedback on the greyish areas of the clouds. :o

EDIT: Viewing them on the work computer, the sky certainly looks slightly different then on my netbook so it could just be my laptop screen that is making me think that the greyish areas look different.

What mode were you shooting in? The exif across the images suggests little in terms of consistency so i'm guessing you weren't doing manual. This may account for some of the differences you are seeing in the cloud (which I think is what you were asking). Also the day looks to me from what can be seen in the images as having variable conditions - bright/dark/cloudcover/sunshine, all which will serve to produce widely varying results i'd imagine. Your metering also has shifted from Pattern to Center weighted so this will also distory any comparison. Other than that I think there are composition issues here in terms of producing great images but I don't think that's what you were after(?)

    Thanks for the feedback AnCatDubh,

Composition and consistency were definitely not on the agenda for these shots. I was more experimenting with different settings etc.

I shot all shots on Aperture Priority and also changed the metering to see the varying results.

What puzzled me was the way in which the clouds seemed to come out a bit patchy when viewing the images on my netbook, on the work PC here, they look a lot more vivid and not as odd as I previously seen at home.

Thanks for the feedback again :)

i like the clouds in number 2, im on a netbook too and they look like theyve been painted, maybe its just the small screen.
when i unplug, the screen goes from 32bit down to 16bit to save power and it makes photos look really weird, maybe it was something like that?
