Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Gruppo di Sussidio: Midweeks spins for the unemployed

    Any takers this week?

Well guys, we're a few spins in and found the days didn't always suit everyone. So for anyone interested the Gruppo Facebook page now is set up with a Group so that anyone can put up notice of when they're looking to go for spin so that others can come along. Allows for more opportunities during the week.

    Many thanks

If you don't mind the employed joining I'd be interested in mid-week spin as never free weekends. Only worry is don't think I'd be up to the speed of all the flash road bikes. I've a hybrid (Trek 7.2fx) and enjoy a long spin when I get the chance. Did a few longish one last year but had a bit of problem with the bike so only getting back into it now. I recently cycled to Carlow and back (from Finglas), sad to say took me 10hrs so won't be winning any races soon :) but got a great buzz from it.

I haven't been on a spin with them yet but fully intend to, my average speed over about 35k is roughly 20-25kph and I'm sure I'd be slower over 50-60k so I wouldn't be too worried about keeping up. If you get a dropped, I'll probably be there with you! :D

I've gone out a few times and had great fun! 20-25kph is certainly enough and I think the un-employed thing was just where the idea came from. I'm sure everyone is more than welcome :). Trying to recover from some pretty horrible dehydration so hopefully will be able for some bike time next week!!

Hey Rob, hybrid, road bike, mountain bike makes no odds, the idea is just to get people out on any bike. You should find, though, that riding as part of a group will help you progress a bit quicker than if you went out alone.

Anybody's welcome, unemployed or otherwise, the more who come along the better for everyone.

A fellow Northsider, so keep an eye on my posts on Facebook.

Joined your group on Facebook (Rob Devine) but to be honest would it not be better if you used an actual facebook "group" instead of a personal page. :)

    Hi jaqian.
There is a group page now.

I made it a group last week, the first message on the wall discusses it. I've added you now, should work.

Would you mind posting the meetup details for the group's spins on this thread? I've only recently started back cycling again and wouldn't mind having some company for longer spins. I'm not on Facebook as I'm avoiding yet another Internet time sink but keeping this thread alive should have the added benefit of advertising the group's existence for newcomers to the Boards cycling forum and those who only drop in from time to time.

Yeah, I think that's a good idea, from
Next week I'll be away for three weeks so I'll be slow as a dog for my first spin back.
There's a ropey old mountain bike and a lake where in staying so I'll do my best to not be TOTALLY out of shape. :D

Sure. I'll post in here from now on when we have something planned. There might be some Sunday rides too.

Posted this on the group page too:

I'm planning on heading out to Blessington on Sunday, weather allowing, if anyone's interested?
It'll be a fairly handy one heading out the N81 and around around the lakes if we're up to it, from about 12pm.
There's a category 3 climb on my route, I'll see about doing it when I know who's coming. We could leave it to the way back and descend it instead. It's savage to come down.

    Any takers?

Unfortunately I'm only free weekdays or I'd join you.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,450 ✭✭✭Harrybelafonte

Rides next week, Mon 18, Wed 20 and Fri 22. All leaving the Sails Sculpture in Clontarf at around 10:30am and heading to Howth. The route we take up the hill will depend on those who join us. All are welcome, but please to confirm here or on the FB page if you're going to come along so we can have an idea of numbers.

    Many thanks

    HB

    Confirmed for Monday. :)

Looks lie I'm not going to be able to make it now, sorry man.
You can bring me on a tourturous climb when I'm back though. I'll need it!! :D

Just in case anyone wonders about this, it's being shut down. Facebook page will be gone by end of September. Spin to Tara on the 18th of this month will probably be the last one.

Does this mean I'll never again suffer at the hands of this earworm following an appearance of your thread on the front page? Praise be! :D

(Jaysus, I hope that's the right link. All YT links are blocked in work. Apologies if it's NSFW [highly unlikely, tbh].)

Ah, yes, the joke has been going around my mates for awhile. There's one letter in the difference, but I was tempted to get jersey's done with Phil Collin's face on them.
