    Hi all,

Just planning a short family hol in august for my wife and kids and would like to head to claire region... prob near the coast if possible, but am open to ideas.

Would have to be something like a hotel complex with self catering chalets/houses and have a pool and bar etc. on site. (something like the quality inn resorts in youghal and clon)

Any ideas would be appreciated as we have not been down that side of the country yet for our hols.

    Thanks.

Edited to save poor innocent Claire's blushes

the falls is nice, v close to lahinch and you could drive to doolin, spanish point, burren, cliffs moher.

the woodstock in ennis is gorgeous (golf/pool) and its central for visiting all of clare but nearest beach would be lahinch 20mins away by car.

ballyvaughan is a great day trip.. it has aliwee caves, gregans castle/monks/fulacht fia are gorgeous for somewhere to eat(pricey though but theres lots of other options), finish in fanore beach, you could get a surfing lesson/ fishing on rocks...
have a great time, hope sun shines!

    OK spelling Police.

As Willow Tree has already noted the only 2 nice hotels in Clare with Leisure Centres maybe people just don't want to repost. If you don't want a Leisure Centre on site then that broadens your options greatly both in terms of location and price.

It's not quite clear which price range you are expecting. Self catering and Spa (as in pool) doesn't always go together over here. Just check out these ones:

    http://www.woodstockennis.com/

Otherwise the above mentioned Falls Hotel in Ennistymon might meet your bar & pool requirements, though not that of your kiddies.

Probably the Armada Hotel in Spanish Point might be right for you:

At least they have selfcatering and a gorgeous beach in front of you.

Thanks for that info Carry, not a huge budget to be honest... but enough for a decent midweek hol with the family.

    Will research those tonight.

Thanks to all for the replys... looking forwarded to it now.

i have heard that this place is good but i know nothing about it otherwise
    http://www.vaughanlodge.ie/

i would second armada, just didnt post as theres no pool, but theres a pool in lahinch right across from beach you could use. depending on ages of kids armada would be good, as carry says right on the beach. area in hotel for kids to play safely while ye are having a drink etc...
have a good one (you can drive along the coast rd to lahich, just 10mins ish)

This might suit you, it's close to a few beaches spanish point on one side and seafield on the other, has a pool (not that big if i remember correctly) and other things for your kids

This new campsite might suit you. Thats if we get nice weather. It's about 6km from Kilkee.

I've had the inlaws stay in Quilty cottages a few times now and they have always been happy with them. The cottages themselves are great size, in a great location and very clean. As mentioned before the swimming pool isn't that big but will suffice to keep the kids happy enough if it's raining. Best bit is the location, you're quite near the Armada Hotel for good food/drink and the beaches at Spanish Point or Lahinch. Plenty to do in Lahinch for the kids - you don't mention ages but there's always surf lessons on the beach or seaworld is worth a visit. The cottages usually have lots of tourisim pamphlets for planning trips to the islands/dolphin viewing/the clifts/ailwee caves etc. Reckon you're about a 30-40 min drive away from Ennis town... depending on who's driving ;)

You'll have a great time ...though can't guarantee the sunshine unfortunetly

How long do you plan on staying OP? If you had a free day I'd definitely recommend traveling along Clare's West Coast, there's some gorgeous scenery all the way along.

For things to do on the coast off the top of my head, there'd be:
    • Ballyvaughan
    • Fanore Beach
    • Lahinch Beach
    • Numerous pitch & putt courses in and around Lahinch
    • Doolin
    • Spanish Point (a personal favourite)
    • Aran Islands (ferry from Doolin)
    • Kilkee
    • Kilbaha Lighthouse and the cliff formations nearby
    • Cliffs of Moher, of course
    • Moher petting farm, for the kids
    • Liscannor Rock Shop, for the kids as well
    • Miltown Malbay for Ceol agus Craic
    • The Burren
    • Ailwee Caves

Would recommend staying around Lahinch/Spanish Point/Miltown Malbay/Ennistymon as they would give you the easiest base to access the area.

If you do a bit of planning, all of the above could be covered in a few days.
