I wonder would it be possible for some sort of database of people who call that show and Joe Duffy to be compiled?

Then we could send all the loons with great ideas for the country and such off to a deserted part of the world to make their utopia, and watch a feed from a safe distance, with some popcorn, as they tear each other to shreds within six hours.

The moment I heard some eejit mention 'da pelleh guns' I immediately turned off.

It's bad enough them having a go at one hobby of mine, but two at once = imminent brain explosion.

Never really listened to this show but sounds like guests of Jeremy Kyle show ring in to this, just constant swearing and insults at each other.

Everyone knows there was no violence or crimes before video games. It's a fact, I should know, I'm a bored taxi driver on a radio show.

I've seen this clip a few times. Strangely enough, the first time I ever saw MK was on the news (BBC, I think) one morning before going to school... And I was hooked for life!

Don't want the kids seeing violence games? Try not showing fatality moves at about 8am then :p

This is the best thing I've ever seen :D

Do parents buy kids copies of the Saw movies and expect them not to be affected? No. A responsible parent sees the age rating and doesn't buy it for their kid.
When people start cawing about violent video games and their affect on kids, i ask what are they doin buying kids these games clearly meant for adults.
They might argue: "Well these kids buy them without us knowing"
Well ok, when you see them playing these games do you let them or make them turn it off and return it.

Sorry but i needed to say that

In fairness, the question that was being raised one the show was exactly that- Why do you buy your kids over 18's video games. And if you had of heard some of the absolute goons that were ringing in, man, there wasn't a stitch of responability between the lot of them.

What sort of punishment do shops recieve if they are found selling to minors? I'm not suggesting that it's the fault of the shops that kids are playing violent games, as I firmly believe that this is the fault of the parents most of the time. Just wondering.

These parents were buying the games for the kids, so the shops really weren't to blame.

And i didn't mean to suggest it was the shops fault (in fact i didn't :D), i was just wondering what penalties shops do recieve if they are caught selling to minors.

Ah, my mistake so. I don't have an answer to your question though. Hopefully on of the other guys can shed a bit of light on it.

And it is exactly these ignorant parents who would be complaining if little Tommy kills the neighbors cat.

I remember trying in vain to explain to a parent that the rating on the box was age, not "how hard the game is" (as she put it) once when I worked in a retailer. She was having none of it and walked out with some violent game (think it was the Mortal Kombat reboot from about 2002).

A week later storms in demanding to speak to the manager saying that the game was horrible and not fit for her 5 year old and she wanted her money back.

The manager was all apologetic until I came out from the back room. As soon as she saw me she knew the game was up. I politely explained to her and the manager that she had been told the age rating of the game. She made some excuse about it not being made clear to her that this was an age rating.

Manager gave her a refund anyway, I think just to get rid of her.

If those nanny 9/11 programs have thought us anything it is that it isn't societies fault, it isn't video games, it isn't movies it isn't Marilyn Manson.

It is the ***ing parents. It is always the ****ing parents.

Total idiots if you ask me. The MK game (I'm reckoning you are talking about Deadly Aliance) has some of the sickest finishing moves in the entire series (just youtube Cyrax's fatality from that game as a fine example) and is no place for children. There should be some way of reporting th parents who by these games for their kids.

Now I don't have any kids myself, but if I did, there'd be no way in hell I'd let them play games that were out of their age range.

I think a video shop can get prosecuted for giving a 12 year old an 18's film, but not for giving them an 18's video game...?

    =-=

I've seen more kids performing WWE moves that are on at 11am on a Saturday morning, than anyone trying to copy a MK move. And for the record, if you do the WWE move wrong the victims neck will snap.

Selling an 18s game to a minor carries the same fine as the respective dvd fine, which i don't know what exactly it is, but's it hefty i believe, possibly has 4x0's before the decimal.

I didn't hear this, but i just know it's more of the same ****e.

wasnt there an issue raised not so long ago that the pegi ratings arent actually legally binding, and are just an actual guideline though?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,870 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

In Ireland anyway they are just a guideline although shops are getting strict about it nowadays.

These parents always remind me of Flanders parents and the quote "i've tried nothing and im all out of idea's man "

Anyone know if its possible to listen to this again?

P.E.G.I in Ireland is not the law. Most stores have it as there store policy not to sell 18+ games to minors though.

I personally think that age ratings are a load of bollix. I have been playing gta since I was around 6 and it has had no effect on me
