Recommend me poetry

Ok guys the only poetry I can say I ever really loved was Shakespeare's spnnets and the work of John Keats. I did however, enjoy some of Philip Larkin's work that we did for the LC.


Can people make recommendations based on this?

I can't say I know much about Larkin, but I do enjoy a bit of Keats.

I'd recommend Elizabeth Bishop (who was also on the LC course a few years ago).

I'd also recommend Roger McGough (a personal favourite of mine). I just how he doesn't take himself too seriously (most of the time).

Most of his most wonderful work can't be found on the internet. If you get your hands on a collection of his poetry I recommend '9 to 5' and 'I Am Not Sleeping'.

Why not try a good anthology? Bloodaxe's Neil Astley has edited a trilogy of excellent poetry anthologies: Being Alive, Staying Alive & Being Human, all of which contain many fine poems. And Patrick Crotty's Modern Irish Poetry offers a good sampling of Irish poets.
