And so will the tax they pay.
Yes they will but of course they dont pay taxes on thier expenses and again lets be honest, a low income person could live off the expenses pf the average TD and still put in a fair amount of travel, usuing their phone etc.
Again, if SF want TD's salaries reduced, which I agree with in principle , then why wouldnt they at least say that the salary levels of PS workers in the same earnings capacitiy be similarily reduced ? Or have they ?

It wont pass unfortunately. Of course they will have no problem passing bills cutting wages of low level public servants or putting in water charges etc. Hypocrites.

Sure we had Stephen Donnelly(an independent I know) on here basically admitting his wages should be cut but saying that he wouldn't take a voluntary cut, typical attitude of politicians unfortunately.

Good move by SF, watch how the powers that be shoot this down but pass bills that attack the most vulnerable in society.

Actually SF are calling for an end to duplication of services north and south
thereby putting a large number of people out of work. Is that not an attack on the working classes?

€93k is too much and a reduction is sorely needed and SF's stance on this can only be respected, although the money being returned to the country's coffers would be more welcome.

What is SF's view on the number of TDs? Because not only are they over paid, there are too many of them.

Because then the only people who run for TD are already loaded (due to the cost of running in the first place) and increases the level of elitism in the ruling class, rather than reduce it.

when a first-timer runs for TD, they arent on a TDs salary. I fail to see your point since reducing the pay of a TD wont have any affect on someone running to be a TD - not unless they already ARE a TD.

I am 100% behind this motion. I cannot understand why people cannot take this move at face value and do anything other than agree with it. Had this been tabled by any other party or the technical group (apart from FF possibly) , there would not be anywhere near the amount of debate on it. People are saying that as SF TD's take a lower salary is irrelevant. This isnt the case as it shows that the members of SF are interested in becoming a TD simply for the fact they wish to help their constituents, not for the high salary that many of the other TD's in the Dail are only interested in

Have the wages of ministers and TDs not been reduced many times already? People will never be happy.

I posted about it before, here they are:
Also, I see Dublin South Central TD Aengus O'Snodaigh claimed €14k in 2008 for travel expenses, is Dublin bus really that expensive now? :pac: Catherine Byrne(FG) managed to get by with just €7k in travel expenses in the same constituency.
Decided to have a look at Martin Ferris expenses in Kerry North for 2008. He claimed €78k in total and €50k in travel and subssitence. While Jimmy Deenihan(FG) claimed €65k in total and €40K in travel. Maybe Pearse can look into this for us while he's so eager to check out what everyone spends on travel.

    Economy of the UK:
    $2.29 trillion (Q4 2010)[1] (nominal; 6th)

    Economy of Ireland:
    $164.6 bn (2010)

And yet there are still people willing to argue that Irish politicians should earn more then their counterparts in the UK!

This country is sick in the head! Well done lads! Clap on the back for showing how psychotic the Irish are when it comes to money.

While I agree that some expenses are absolutely ridiculous , again I refer to my original point that it is of no benefit to this thread. The only answer I think was asked is whether it is good or bad that sinn fein are looking for wages of tds to be cit , yes or no.
While you may not agree with the expenses (either do I, i agree with you), that belongs to another thread or whether expenses should be more closely monitored than they are now.
So do you agree with the motion of Sinn Feins to reduce the salary of TD's

Well you asked for proof of their ridiculous expense claims and then posted an article from Doherty calling out other TDs for doing the same so I simply provided you with what you asked for.

Fair enough, like anyone i am open to correction, however i still believe noone can rightfully argue against this bill
