It's almost as shambolic as the Waterford hurling situation. Why can't the county board put in place a selection committee or alternatively entertain applications from interested coaches/managers. It would be nice to see different guys present their vision/philosophy on the game before they got the job. I can't believe that the Cork senior job was never discussed at the last meeting of the county board
The will isnt their. It must be their way,or no way.

If you look at the level of meticulous planning and detail that is involved in inter county management I think the county board could have at least begun the process of selecting a new manager. We don't have to have a manger in place just yet but surely the process could be established and then move forwards without rushing either.

Obviously Ephie thinks it's time to start the canvassing so maybe the county board should have begun too.

I was of course joking,im nt a fan of the CCB, but there is one or two, that are okay.

I totally agree with yeah. But this is the sane farce, that our minor hurles and u21 teams, out since july, and we havent even had a whisper, whats happening their.

If cork win on the 8th wait like cusack said, for the proporangda machine to go full swing.

By the thursday that week, the very latest i guess, either pat or ger fitz ,will join the band wagon.

And if waterford win the minor,oh lord, all we hear,is we were beaten by them in extra time,by the bounce of a ball, and were unlucky, and it could have been us,when in truth,i was their,we were awful, and should have been beaten by more, the ref could have but a saddle on waterford ,he rode them so much.

When the fact is our underage teams are under achieving, and management have a big part in that.

Dublin this year have recalled a few of their AI winning team of 2010 who were dropped by previous management, 8 or 9 of the 2010 team listed to start I think.

Will be a very tough game for Cork going on their performances so far.

thanks for the tip about the Junior AI on the radio

Cork don’t seek out referees, says JBM

Refereeing and referees was a topic for discussion at the Clare media day on Wednesday, in advance of this year’s All-Ireland senior hurling final, selector Mike Deegan stating that the Clare management would try to have a meeting with the man in the middle before every game to try to ascertain what they will or won’t allow.

Not the case, however, for Cork manager Jimmy Barry Murphy.

“Unless the referee comes to us before the games, we don’t go looking for him, we’ll take what comes on the day.”

Not that they ignore what any particular arbiter may do in any particular game. “We just look at the referees that are reffing the games and see what tendencies they have and different things like that.

“I suppose referees have their own style, things they tend to favour. We look at that — every team is doing that now to see what suits them.”

Cork suffered at the hands of the referee in the Munster final loss to Limerick, Westmeath’s James McGrath red-carding free-taker Patrick Horgan just before half-time. Cork’s next game however, the All-Ireland quarter-final win over Kilkenny, saw almost a mirror-image of that situation, the Cats’ Henry Shefflin sent off by Barry Kelly for a second yellow card offence, again just before the break. Both those red cards were subsequently rescinded on appeal, Shefflin’s first yellow deemed harsh.

So, it’s understandable that a team management would have their homework done on the individual who can ultimately have a greater influence on the outcome than any of their own players.

On the injury front, good news for Cork supporters with experienced defender Brian Murphy having made a remarkable recovery from a broken collar-bone and now pushing to regain his starting spot.

“Everything is fine, everything has cleared up for us,” said Jimmy.

“Brian Murphy played for his club last weekend so it is great news for us. He could have played in Croke Park (in the semi-final win over Dublin) if we actually needed him but we didn’t need him. He has had a couple of extra weeks training and a match so he is training fairly well.”

In Cork’s Munster semi-final win against Clare, and though manning the unfamiliar centre-back position, Murphy did a man-marking job on dangerman Tony Kelly, and played a pivotal role in Cork’s win.

Since then however Kelly has been shifted to midfield for Clare, scoring four points from that position in their semi-final win against Limerick, while the Cork defence has also gone from strength to strength with youngster Christopher Joyce doing very well at centre-back.

“The players have all done very well with Brian out. We have shown that we have strength in depth in the panel, Stephen White did a great job when coming in the last day.”

On striker Paudie O’Sullivan, however, out since before the start of the championship with a horrific leg-break (pins now reinforcing his broken tibia and fibula) the news is less encouraging.

“He is still clinging to the hope that he will be in contention. It’s a long shot but in fairness he’s making every effort to try and get there. He’s not back training but he’s doing a massive amount of work with our physio Declan O’Sullivan — we will never say never.”

I suppose the Cork senior vacancy can be a discussion for another day. The focus should be on the juniors tomorrow and the senior hurlers on 8th September. Thanks for the heads up on 103fm. I hope one or two of them can make the step up to senior because if the juniors win tomorrow they won't be able to line out for the juniors next year. It will have to be a completely different team. There are alot of familiar faces from the team that beat Kildare in Thurles back in 2011. So, I'd say they have a fantastic chance. They deserve a bit of luck after all their stuff being stolen out of their dressing rooms during the win over Lancashire. I couldn't believe that was allowed to happen!

They do and captained by Ruairi deane,a good driving force.Kildare have never won it,and the year it has been ,underdogs are a dangerous animal.

They should have beaten us in 2011 and took us to extra time. The kildare lads say bolton at full forward is very good.Their due to win this some day,and cork football teams dont do favourites tags well,in all ireland finals, and the gaelic grounds has been a grave yard for many a cork team in the past.

Full back,is where with omahony cork at weak.
Yeah it was awful the lads stuff was taken.Diarmuid o donovan the new admin man,was there with them,so id say he got them sorted.Hes a football man to the core, that wasthe same day as the hurling.
I dont doubt hes geuine. The problem with him is he wonbe radical, brave or bold enough when it comes to appointing managers, and more likely to go with guys that have a life time of service to cork and county board men, than actual talent.

Hes barometer of underage success would not inspire success. He was v poor when he was minor manager, but felt he done well as he produced players.

Can someone tell me more about Michael Cussen?

I read in club reports that he plays great but when he plays for Cork he looks woeful! Is it just that he is not inter-county standard? Does he not perform under pressure? Sometimes I think he is an untapped gold mine but then I think he is useless other times!

Cork ladies up in a short while.

Mayo beaten by a point to kerry

Any want want to see how a centre forward should play watch this game.

Cora staunton has single handely kept and brought mayo back in the game.Words dont do her justice. She is unplayable. Her phyiscality for a woman,is a joy to behold.

Sum of her points, forty yards out ,you wouldnt c in sum mens games.

Her strength is unreal, bouncing of at least three players, any time she gets the ball, either creating or taking a score.

Its no overstatement, she would walk on most mens teams.

Against poor club hurlers hes made look good.lacks the bottle, guts, balls, workrate to compete at IC.
Inter county is always about pressure. He cant cope,no buisness being their.

He wont be on the panel next year.Compare hes attuitde to Cora staunton todawn for example.Worlds apart.

He is all hair oil,no socks.Watch the way he goes up for a ball, one hand on the hurley.Donal o grady would cruifcy him.

Hes view, you must have two hands on the hurley. He trys to pull the ball down ,it goes away from him.Two hands ,mean you have more control,to bring it down.
He should enjoy the next few weeks,as he wont be their next year. The only game ,he was used, when they had no choice, against limerick.Could very well be hes last game for us.

Woudnt believe what u see in the paper,he has a huge fan club in the Echo, with some. They wrote after hes two goals against tipp,he could be our Ace of spades.

I said it then,he was awful, and that was a poor tipp full back.
For a man of 6, foot seven,he would be knocked over in a gust of wind, and is afraid of hes own shadow on the ptich.

Their come a time when you must call a spade a spade. He was never or will ever be intercounty level.

Watch the 2007 all ireland football final, when beaten he didnt want to know.Goulding comes on,a young player gets a goal.

Counihan didnt rate him, that says it all, when he realises hes poor,he is ,extremeley.

Yes I read reports like that of him being a world beater and then I look forward to seeing him play. Of course when he is brought on, it looks like we had a man sent off as he is such a passenger

Better than a few bluffers in the mans game, diarmuid connolly, paudi kissane ,etc. She knows how to kick a ball. Her techinque is sublime,id watch her all day.

She is with the Gooch, the best centre forward at the moment. How old is she nw?

    It doesnt show.

There is a few v gd writers with the Echo, then there is lazy poor journalists.
When its warm, the sun shines, then it rains,it pours. They fail to take anything at face value.

Aiseake halpin was heavily crticised in cork ,but people were too harsh on him.If he was here now,jbm would have him on the panel, and use him wisely.

He hads balls, and was tough. From a man with no hurling in years,he done v good in 2010.

Cork can beat dublin, but they got to stop beating themselves.
Time and time again they give away sloppy passes under no pressure.what a score from o flynn.

11 to seven down h time.

Cork have the better players, they look a tired team.,great players, like corkery, mulchay, walsh making mistakes, you wouldnt expect them to.

    Juliet,having a stormer.still winnable,but a huge battle.

Kerry will be going or 3 in a row against Cork this year but this game should bring them on - looking forward to it.
