    http://www.labour.ie/press/2014/05/13/lynch-welcomes-30-million-boost-for-cork/

Cork to get 30m goverment funding for Pairc, that nearly half ,67 million(cost seems be 70 now some say ,is that true???)

Please note I aint politically afilated to labour ,my interest post purely gaa,the reason I post link labour is seems no other link bar politcal links announcing it.Just picked that link.

30 million. There was talk of funding IN the papers months ago,i never thought 30m.
Frank must be delighted.Surley now ,we have money invest underage ,you would like to think

 Can't find anything else on this online, but it must be authentic if a TD is writing about it. That's a huge chunk of change!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,307 ✭✭✭Horse84

Oh it's true alright 30m right before an election. Guaranteed to swing a few badly needed council seats the governments way. Superb timing on the announcement by minister Coveney. Frank just can't lose.

What's gas is one of the board running for FF and they still get the money

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,276 ✭✭✭thinkstoomuch1

    Absoultey,horse Frank is smiling.

I dont think it matters whos in power to be honest,30m they get anway.I just my opionin,a country in debt,on its knees ,Give 30m to one of the Wealthiest Boards arounds ,and then also for. A Stadium greatly overpriced and to A Board that always has drama assicoated with them is a bit much.
30 m is huge.Donald Trumph was in Limeric during the week.Hes lucky frank didnt try get him to invest:-)

Yes we will the rumblings ,Croke part got ite c,Fact is thats a national stadium.I have to laugh, when I hear them say fans deserve the best and to be proud of etc.If fans means much, then Gives us Director hurling and invest in underage and sort u21 hurling as I think work wont win a senior, til u21 is one ist or at least get to an all ireland final.

If fans meant so so much, next homecoming ,have it in the Pairc, either stadium than have crowds on South Mall.
Of course thats unlikey when its sout mall litjey ,City council have to pay the bill and not them .

Unlikey they get start work,as gone to bord appelana appeal ,and wouldnt be suprised if appealed again.

Jerry Kiernan and his like will have a field day with this wait and see. In this instance I'd find it hard to argue with the man, bitter and deluded he may be ;)

30m is a joke tbh - the entire cost of 70m is also absurd

I want to see the GAA developed as much as anybody else but there really needs to be a breakdown of the funds and their allocation made public. How on earth is it costing 70m?

As somebody who lives in Cork - that money could be put into infrastructure that badly requires it. The roads in Cork that I frequent are a joke of late!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,307 ✭✭✭Horse84

Completely right, 3 shocks in the car replaced in less than 12 months. Even die hard gaa supporters in cork are embarrassed, if that's the right word, at this level of spending. Is there anyone speaking up at county board meetings and asking where this 70m is being spent exactly and is there full transparency?
You'll have fellas on here now soon saying the cork crowd are never happy and we're always giving out but this is absurd in my view in this day and age.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,704 ✭✭✭citykat

Ye'd be laughing if there was a transfer market in the GAA :P

I think another reason for the funding was if Ireland are successful in the rugby world cup bid then the GAA stadiums being used will get funding for redevelopment except croker and casement as that is already funded, still a bit crazy as we may not be successful.

    http://www.eveningecho.ie/2014/05/14/ellis-cian-mac-shine-hurlers-challenge/

June 3rd is Muskerry and Duhallow senior football Great test for Muskerry now,see if they are the Real Deal.Ucc game ,i wouldnt read much in to it.
Playing Duhallow with no game played ,due imokilly been unable field team ,They have no excuses imo ,should be winning talent they have. I have a feeling that game could in English Words ,he had with Clyda be won with the Head than the boot. Duhallow have a club ethos and spirit ,on the field.time will tell if Muskerry have similar .They have talent,no doubt at all ,fine players .Played in Dromtariffe, big crowd duhallow there,i would expect at it. I see Mallow are favourites in the intermediate football.I wouldnt have them as favs, very much a team that wins football games ,looses battles. They have to change that ,to be considered as contender imo.

Cork had won two all irelands 89,90,but had poor years 91 and 92. Morgan knew he could turn things around in ,but problem was ,Mentality,Cork were tired and 4 long years had drained Mind. They needed a new spark plug to reignite there Engine. They got that with Sports Phscyolgist Geroge tracey .
Cork got to final in 93 and unlucky to loose that and questionabe referring to say the least

Best of Luck To Midelton Rice cup ,4th final row today .Ard scoil I think have just won it once 2010. Midelton are a fine team, but and in particular Ciaran Evans,Sean moran ,Arthur Negano and Mark mccarthy who are very good hurlers. They lost 2011 final ,won 2012, lost 2013 to thurles.
2012 team that won had josh Beausang, garan manley ,Eoin malonely ,cathal martin etc that won Dean ryan this year so its a judge good to be succesful . Whatever happens fair play to the lads ,to get to the final and have bout 7 cork u14 panel and well deserved. very Doubtful if I make it the game now ,,id say it be a cracker though. CORK have the Dean ryan ,Kinnane cup already ..be lovely jubbly to add a third to the table .

Horse lad , That link is an interesting read. Thanks for that. Is the price gone up ,from 67m to 70m???? Paper had front page headline yesterday .Then in report said 70m. 3m is a huge jump in money . They said in the paper, that the group against it are still going to appeal in Bord pannella. It could be delayed it.

Don't understand the cost of the PUC development. McHale park in Castlebar did something similar 6 or 7 years ago and had change out of 20 mill.

If you are spending 70mill they need to get a 60,000 stadium with corporate facilities.Maybe get an AI semi each year and put in a stadium management firm to make it a commercial venue.

Cork City should be hosting more big games in the All - Ireland,As should Killarney,Galway,Limerick and very shortly Belfast.

spending 70m and they have no plans for a new roof for the currently uncovered stand. they simply want to transfer the roof across from the other side, support pillars included.

how can any design company sign off on plans in this day and age of a roof with supports blocking the view?

Midelton beat Kilkenny cbs and Ard Scoil to win this cup,Really strong schoos teams .Midelton had a panel 28,Ard scoil 34.

Great game, two very good teams and for young lads both schools deserve huge credit like all players that played today .

At this age,im a firm believer no young lad played bad,as these are young lads learning and will improve. In my opionon every lad had a good game.
There was some lads that played very good and stood out.

Ciaran evans at 3.Aron walsh barry at 6,Darragh moran in the middle,Kiitan oke at centre forward with arthur nganou at full and cormac o brien at corner back had great games.
O hanlon in goal made two great saves vital times .
Nganou and oke got two suberb goals within 5 minute spell ist half decided the game, and oke made a superb run, beat 3 lads ,hit super shot ,brillant save by connolly ,but barry got the goal from the rebound to clinch the game, after o hanlon saved a goal above at 5 point game.

Barry was a collous at 6 and hurled left and right ,and got great goal and led as captain.
Oke was just as good at 11.won ball after ball ,in air ,in ground, constanly beat ,hes man and loads other ,and got great goal, made goal, hand most scores. Also countless times back in defence helping them,he coverd every part field today .Brillan game,id say he could be a dean ryan harty player down the line .

Barry, connolly, daly and long were very good na for ard scoil who never game up and deserve a lot of credit .

Great game, two great teams, there only can be winner by one team,id expect we hear lot of both teams at dean ryan etc in two years .

One last word, match programmes were great, well laid out and intreviews player each team ,and also
Corm westcourt cup on in dundrum had full panels of doon and dungarvan cbs listed ,that game was on today also .It had a photo thurles rice cup winners 2013.

Great programme, credit to who ever produced it for the schools game .

Thats Kinnane cup,Rice and Dean ryan residing 2014 by the Banks of my own lovely lee.
Again ,there is superb talent in Cork at all levels.
Just do the same as other counties in developing it and good coaches and cork hurling be in great place.

Considering the current state of the country. Paying €70m for such a stadium is crazy in the extreme. Will never (outside of concerts) fill the place with 45,000 capacity - apart from the odd Munster Hurling Final here or there. No roof on uncovered stand sides? Ffs lads, is Frank buying an Island with the money or what?

Also, its embarrassing that Gov are giving €30m towards it. They are children in families - many of which being members of GAA might I add - who are going to bed hungry! Madness. Maybe if some of the €70 (say €3/4m) were to be spread around county for some club developments then things might be back in proportion. Our own club could do with a €50,000 to get a set of floodlights and a Hurling wall, for example.

Haughney a doubt apparently, but then again i wouldnt have him starting anyway. Looking forward to seeing Paudie Sull get a run. I must admit i said on here last year that i thought he was finished at intercounty after the leg break, but im delighted he's proved me wrong. I had money on him getting an allstar last year before the break. He's by far the most skillful hurler we have, and his touch even in the winter is second to none.

I have to admit I felt the same about the guy at the time. We've all see guys get injuries like that and they're never the same. No guarantee that he's back to what he was yet but it's looking good. Delighted for him

It's looking like lawlor will start at full back for wford after earning a recall to the squad due to injuries. Liam has his shortcomings mainly a lack of pace we should look to exploit that but at the same time keep em guessing and swapping Cronin on him should be done. As far as I hear lawlor had a hard time against Bergin in their challenge match against Offaly which has been said was pointless. Think they hammered with 20 wides to spare. They have tipp behind closed doors this week I think which will bring em on.

I would caution against being too confident going into the game against wford. I expect us to win and it'll be a disaster if we don't. I'd be down there a good bit and would be familiar with their club scene and they do have some very fine hurlers even guys that are only now coming through. Watch out for Colin dunford at corner forward, pace to burn and is hitting good form and is in in with a shot to start.
Nullifying Seamus pender on the 40 is essential, whether Joyce or cahalane or whoever is selected against him it's vital that he doesn't get on top. If he plays well wford play well.

That being said we can't get overly caught up in what wford do and must go out and impose ourselves on the game from the get go. We have the players and need to shrug off what was left of the lacklustre league and lay down a marker and if that means sticking it to a depleted Waterford, so be it.

Though many have voiced concerns about Liam Lawlor since 2010. I have seen him to very little wrong since then, and by all accounts his last championship game v Kilkenny was his best yet. Cork's own Denis Walsh picked him as The Sunday Times start players. Concerned that he's been injured all through the league but he's had a bit of time, hopefully fit enough. I think if it freed Shane Fives to go wing back I'd be very happy with that, given Mahony is out particularly.

Shane Walsh has also had game time under his belt having missed practically all the league. That's what he needs most. I think the key thing for Cork is who plays Centre back. I trust from what I'm reading it won't be Joyce, and rightly so because I reckon he'd follow Paudi Mahony around and leave McDonnell exposed, much like the Munster semi last year.

Yer biggest concern is far from Seamus Prendergast, not even convinced he'll start. Shouldn't be, he can't run anymore and really would have little impact against a good Inter County team like Cork.

Not sure what to make of us at the minute, would be confident we could win if we'd everyone available. As it stands, we'll have to start at least one defender that wouldn't be starting otherwise, probably Eddie Barrett in midfield (if Sully doesn't getn his ban rescinded), when he barely played in the league. Not even sure what way the forwards will line up but almost definitely starting one player that didn't play in the league, if not two.

Under pressure for certain. If I was Cork I'd be putting Lehane on Nagle. Already seen what can happen when he meets pace, would be left in his tracks.

Yea I know Liam myself personally quite well, one super sound fella and got a raw deal at the start under the new management. Like I said he's a full back out and out and he does that well, what he lacks in pace he makes up for in positioning.
As regards Seamus pender I'm not sure if u could ever describe him as being overly mobile but on his day he is very effective. I haven't been to many wford club games so far so not sure how he's going at the minute.
What's your take on Jamie nagle? Deserves his place or what? I have to say I couldn't for the life of me see what people saw in him at the start but last year in particular he was outstanding in most games.

Always would be in his corner, and am convinced if he hadn't had those knee injuries that he would have established himself as a wing back on the team. I know what you mean alright, but never really seen him roasted for that reason, and he's marked Canning, Corbett, Honan, Colin Ryan, Richie Power etc. Biggest problem for me is I don't think he can jump, wouldn't see him win a clean catch between two players, but that's grand at full back because you just want him breaking it out.

Woudln't be too bother how Seamus is going with Ardmore, they have nobody else so he'd get a lot of attention. But from what I saw in the league and even most of last year he's not really anything left to offer. Often under rated, but beyond it now, worryingly because we have no great aerial threat in the half forward line.

Am not convinced by Nagle. In fairness, he held a few well last year. He's good in the air, strong and a decent hurler (now at least), but is so slow. Was as plain as day v Kilkenny and Dublin in the relegation playoff. Have a look at Ben O'Connor's goal in 2010 and you'll see a man look like he's jogging after him (he was only just brought on). Those problems were apparent from the first game he played wing back v Clare that year. Been highlighted recently. Losing Mahony and Daniels and not having Foley or Darragh Fives fit, and for some reason Paudie Prender being completed unused by current management will mean he'll have to start, hopefully it doesn't cost us dearly.

    Report in Meath Chronicle

There was no happy return to his home ground for Mick O’Dowd as his Meath side were soundly defeated 3-13 to 0-13 by Cork in a SF challenge at Skryne today.

The former Skryne captain made a number of changes during the course of the game but could only watch as his side were steamrolled at times by the pace and power of the Corkmen.

Meath led briefly in the early stages but they trailed 0-6 to 1-8 at the interval and struggled to make an impact in the second-half.

Bryan McMahon, David Bray and Joey Wallace top-scored for Meath with two points apiece while Shane O’Rourke, Bobby O’Brien, Andrew Tormey, David Larkin, Sean Curran and Paddy O’Rourke also pointed.

However at no stage did Meath carve out a clear-cut, goal-scoring opportunity. Among the Meath players who sat this game out were Kevin Reilly, Graham Reilly and Conor Gillespie.

Donal Og Hodnett came on as a substitute and scored two second-half goals for Cork while John Hayes also hit the net.

The Munster side fielded a strong team wth players such as Daniel Goulding and Paul Kerrigan playing significant roles in the win.
