Pretty sure they aren't allowed show it on TV? I know some people can't go to games, but they have accommodated for it and I think anything to try and get people to the match is a positive after the last day.

Does anyone know if you still get a 10 euro student concession for buying your ticket in advance? As in would a stand ticket be a tenor or would I still be paying 15 either way

Number 1, when did RTE moan about Sky getting TV rights - they are even showing the SKY GAA advert. RTE got first pick in the games.

RTE already have a full day's of coverage for that Sunday, Connacht football semi-final between Mayo and Roscommonm, and the Leinster football quarter-final meeting of Dublin and Laois. - their broadcast schedule is done out weeks in advance. So two other counties would get shafted to show a game that already has been shown. I mean, I know we're important but come on. RTE have at least made the effort to show the game, it would be much worse if there was no coverage at all.

The precedent is there, for the Dublin v Kilkenny Leinster semi final replay last year, RTE provided web only coverage

On RTE Radio 1, the days proceeding the announcement, it was probably the most biased radio you will ever hear. They got lambasted for it. Prime Time didn't fair much better.

RTE are showing the sky ad because they have no choice. Do you think they're happy a rival station are showing the Leinster Final? And that's only the start!

How are they a rival station?? There are six packages of games sold by the GAA - RTE got first pick of what they wanted, and SKY picked up the rest, I think it was packages 5 and 6. RTE aren't broadcasting Newstalks advert - and they are more a direct rival than Sky!

Did you listen to the RTE coverage at the time? Every commentator outside of Montrose was commenting on how biased it was.

RTE did not get first pick. The GAA don't favour RTE over TV3 or Sky. Why would they? It goes to the highest bidder, but obviously the GAA board will not give not give exclusive rights to a pay-per-view foreign based channel on the Munster or All-Ireland for example. They'd be blue murder.

So basically your argument is RTE are fine with rivals showing GAA coverage? Of coarse they're not. It's a business like any other and who could blame them?

SKY are a rival station, but there's probably a EU advertisement law at play, as SKY are based outside of Ireland, unlike Newstalk.

So which game would pull in more ratings cork v waterford or dublin v laois ??????

Eh no, I'm based in London, so missed most of it. RTE have the same number of games they had last year, so the difference is?? Did they not see TV3 as a rival, i.e. the games Sky picked up? RTE have exclusive rights to 25, Sky have 14. They aren't competing for viewers within those games!

That rule would apply equally for Sky and Newstalk, so your argument there is mute.

Its not a case of ratings, its a case of what they have signed up to in a legal contract, and what they have organised. Do you think Dublin and Laois would be happy being shifted for Cork v Waterford - you reckon AIG would be happy with that??

RTE would obviously see SKY as a much bigger rival than TV3, as SKY is a media giant with limitless finances. TV3 is a minnow in comparison.

Wait for the SKY coverage with all the camera angle views etc. It's only the beginning and RTE know it (hence their aftermath biased coverage).

I'm not saying SKY will ever get an All-Ireland exclusive, but it's the start and money talks.

    +1
the contract would be to show the games that RTE chose at the start of the year so it'd be fairly hard to re-write that at this stage.

and anyhow, the excited armchair viewers to whom the games are so important to see on TV YET(ironically) who cannot be arsed/ ever thought of actually going the game itsself, are not the Munster councils main priority who'd be happy to see less televised games than there already is.
With ticket prices reduced as well, the Munster Council expect a larger crowd, in excess of 20,000, than the disappointing 16,025 that were in Thurles at the weekend. Unlike last year when they didn’t show the Munster semi-finals, RTÉ will this year show all five of the province’s hurling championship games.

However, Frost said there was concern among council delegates that too many games are being televised and having an adverse impact on crowds at club games.

“To be honest about it, we had a discussion at the last Council meeting and there were people there that made out there were too many games going out on television.

Just want to get peoples' thoughts on Darren McCarthy after his performance for ballymartle at the weekend. I'll be very honest and say I haven't seen a whole pile of him play out the field at all but from what I read and hear he's been fairly consistent the last few seasons.

At the moment would he be an option for jbm and co out the field and if he wasn't sub keeper would he be pushing for a spot?

  • Registered Users Posts: 679 ✭✭✭Connorzee

IMO he would be ahead of Pa Cronin and Cian Mac anyway, but thats not saying much. Great outfield talent. Very impressed with him for the past few years outfield, arguably as good outfield. Would've loved to see him given game time out the field during the league.

I think RTE got away with not broadcasting the newstalk advert as they claimed "it was a call to action" - the action being "move the dial". They couldn't find a similar get-out for the Sky advert so had to broadcast it...

jbm talking of changes for sunday apparently

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,307 ✭✭✭Horse84

In the paper he was talking about being reluctant to make wholesale changes but from the way he was talking it sounded as if eoin cads could be in line to start. I'd be surprised if there wasn't changes to be honest.
Any update on William Egan or has there been any comment from management on him?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,121 ✭✭✭zetecescort

I would hope we don't start with one or both of Cian Mc And Pa Cronin. Cooper did enough IMO when he came on to push hard for a starting spot.

Absolutely, cooper, for me, has done more than enough. Himself Harnedy and lehane on the 40 with cads Cronin at full and Hoggie inside with him dropping out when needed. Just hoping that lehane can get his head right and be that player we desperately need him to be more consistently.
Getting Alan cadogan involved early and often is vital too. Get him running at wford backs and he will do damage.
We simply have to nullify that wford hb line without horsing high ball down on top of brick where he is strongest.

I have two stand tickets for the Cork v Waterford replay for next Sunday. They are season tickets, but me and the other holder can't go 'cause of a prior engagement. I think they are for the Kinane Stand.
It is €15 for a stand ticket for the game (I believe) but I will let the two of these go for €20 (tenner each) to whoever wants them. I will email them and if you can pay by paypal that would be great. pm me if interested.

By the way one of the mods said it was OK for me to post this request.

Cooper bust his baby finger in training last weekend and had to get a few stitches in it. Could take a while to heel so I'd say he's doubtful.

Apparently it was the rim of the new O'Neill's sliothars did it...

On that basis, six forwards could be:
    J Coughlan/Harnedy, Harnedy/Cooper, Lehane
    Cadogan, Cronin, Hoggy

Thinkstoomuch hasn't posted for a while. Hope he hasn't called it quits as he has a massive knowledge on Cork GAA. He's been a huge plus for this thread IMO.

Hi, been reading this a while - great to see such knowledgeable posting on Cork hurling. Looking forward to the match but with some concerns. Would be a disaster of we lost after getting a 2nd chance. Has Egan left the panel? Will Eoin Cadogan start and if so where?

I'd really like to see Cork play with the swagger and confidence of old. With a bit of steel and ruthlessness and of course the skill like Tonysull and jbm used to bring to the game.

Also wondering where ttm is. I enjoy reading his posts.

Have a spare town end terrace ticket for Sunday. PM me if interested, will let it go for a fiver.

What ? Are you telling me Joe Deane's retired ?

Now I know why we didn't beat ye last time out. Never mind, we've still got Ben O Connor and we'll hammer ye in the replay.:)

And Sully is going to" rock" the backline. :)
