"Having been informed that the much needed Cookstown and Magherafelt by-passes are to be shelved due to lack of funding, I cannot help but feel extremely disappointed and concerned."....MLA Ian McCrea linky

the report done at the time of the proposal had found that average 17,500 vehicles per 24 hour-day (2-way) on...

having driven through the town on numerous occassions it can be a nightmare in the morning... so this news is disappointing.

They've only been shelved for now. They'll happen eventually...as will the dualling from Toome to the top of the M2, the Dungiven by-pass, etc, etc. They just don't have the money at present. Magherafelt can be an absolute nightmare in the mornings during the school rush hour :(
