For anyone interested in getting into film, the below might be of interest:

Filmbase celebrates 25 years supporting new and emerging Irish filmmakers with a series of free events to help aspiring Filmmakers Get Into Film. Events will include stunt workshops, equipment demonstrations, training classes, panel discussions, screenings, opportunities to meet established filmmakers and a very special public interview with one of Ireland’s great acting talents, Saoirse Ronan.

Ireland’s short films have been doing extremely well in recent years with no less than 7 nominations for Irish short films in the last decade. The events begin with a “Road to the Oscars” screening of three Oscar-nominated Irish short films The Door, New Boy and Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty on Friday evening. The filmmakers Juanita Wilson, Nicky Phelan and Steph Green will all be present and will take part in a post-screening discussion on Irish short filmmaking, catching their first break, the process of making it to the Oscars and the effect of an Oscar-nomination on their careers.

On Saturday 25th of June, Filmbase will throw open it's doors for an Open Day, to highlight the best of what filmbase has to offer and give inspiration for those wanting to 'Get Into Film' with a series of free workshops, informal panels and other events. Aspiring Producers, Directors, actors, ADs and Production Managers are invited to a stunt workshop with the Irish Stunt Guild designed to explain how to successfully plan film stunts on a low budget. Those interested in camera can take part in a workshop exploring shooting for film on the Canon DSLR; a range of filmmakers including Ken Wardrop (His and Hers), Maya Derrington (Pyjama Girls) and Katie Holly (One Hundred Mornings, Sensation) will host informal chats with prospective filmmakers; there will be animation taster classes with animator Cliff Parrot; Filmbase staff will be on hand to answer questions on all aspects of filmmaking and the services filmbase provide, and Saoirse Ronan will take part in a very special public interview with filmmaker and actor Hugh O’Conor on movies, acting and her career.

The day will be rounded off with a Jameson drinks reception. Events are open to the public and everyone with an interest in film is encouraged to come along. All events are free, but some may require advance booking. Further details can be found on the Filmbase website www.filmbase.ie.
