Another example that only makes sense if you understand the language is the girl in these photos: Professor PZ Myers and his daughter Skatje. (PZ will be familiar to anyone who frequents the Atheism & Agnosticism forum - he's an evolutionary biologist and one of the most famous "new atheists".) "Skatje" is Dutch, the best translation is "little treasure". Now she's 19, and has tattoos ...

From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch’.

    Keith. Terrible name.

What's wrong with Keith. An honest ta goodness name! A very biased opinion I must admit.

Fine name, as in nothing unfortunate about the way it sounds, except childhood memories of, 'Keith the Teeth'

It's not a poxy made up name to sound posh?

Welsh name stemming from the word for a tree and the wisdom it holds.

I think what has lessened the desirability of the name Keith has been the tendency, in some parts of Dublin, to render the t silent.

Another one is Kirk. It might also once have been a good, old fashioned, honest-to-goodness name, but now you just think 'seven kids and a boy racer'.

John, Michael, Mary. Honestly, I don't see why people have to give their kids such absurd names. They should just stick to something normal like Sailosi or Topsy or Seji.

    What's wrong with Topsy?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 24 PACKYAK

I'm saying that names like Topsy are completely normal, and people who gives kids names like John or Mary are crazy.

Loads of Lord of the Rings names going round too like Arwin .

I hate the name Bernadette , hate it . it was my original name but thank god was changed .

I cant stand the name Kevina . It reminds me of a headache.

How lucky I am! Elvis Presley started work on GI Blues on my birthday. Lonnie Donegan was #1 in the charts. Jeez, I dodged two bullets there.

Instead, I was named after a hunger striker. :D

    Don't care what parents call their children...it's their choice;

But whatever name the child is given, please let that be the name they are called, the name on every cert and official document, school registration and bank account.

And please do not allow anyone to 'translate' it into Gaeilge.

Nothing worse than trying to find/identify someone who uses several versions of their name.

Their Dad is called Neville Neville

I've heard 20-stone builders being called schatje and nobody batting an eyelid.

I don't understand why people thing 'Moses' is a weird name. It's been around quite a while...

That's a pretty thinly-veiled Laugh At The Africans article. Also, Melanie?

My OH works in a gym for kids and some of the names she tells me are almost made up. Here's a few

    Spancko
    Chinazo
    Miracle (boy)
    Precious (girl)
    Nonie
    Apollanara
    Nap

Miracle and Precious are brother and sister.... Poor kids

I'm loving the name Chinazo tbh. My sister's having a kid soon, I will put in a word.
