    Today I washed my car.
Went on the motorway for 15 minutes and don't know why I even bothered.

I'm not one for exaggerating but there's at least 100million flys on my front bumper.

Fitted my new german pressed plates just now, yes I know every man and his dog has them, I dont care though, they look good on the e34 bangernomic!

At the weekend I washed the car,
used clean wheels & autoglym instant tyre dressing on its feet,
back to black'ed all of the plastics,
sun of a gun'd the internal plastics,
    hoovered the whole car,
    used super resin polish
and then some turtle wax extreme shine something or other,

The paint came up well but im never happy, so I'm going to get a clay bar at the weekend (& might invest in some dodo juice) and give it a serious cleaning.

On tuesday I fixed my door (posted a few days ago that the window had been smashed) - The front window rail was all over the place like a mad mans shyte so I:

Got a door from a breakers, It was in calypso red, so no use to me.

I removed the regulator motor and arms,
    removed the glass,
    removed all of the seals,
    removed the front rail -
and transplanted it all into my original door, went swimmingly, I did not expect it to go so easy, got it done in under an hour.

All in all it has been a productive & happy week :)

Use Holts tar remover to easily get rid of the residue ;)

I cleaned my MAF/IAT sensor today and gave my air filter a bit of a clean.

My oil pump failed today :/ Thankfully I killed the engine straight away and no damage was done. Stripped the car and replaced it and then fit an oil pressure gauge

Also put her track shoes on for a blast round the track tomorrow afternoon! :D

Got another step done in kitting out the removable tool storage in the back of the Smart. All the ply is cut to size now, sometime over the weekend I'll go gluing, screwing, nailing and routing things to make it all perty.

Made the fatal mistake of taking on a campervan to paint over the last 3 weeks. Complete restoration. Never again. Never. Ever. Again.

You don't want to use a sponge and you also want 2 buckets

Sponges are the devil. Try the 2 bucket method.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,238 ✭✭✭Ardennes1944

Washing a car with a sponge and posting it up here is a bad idea. It holds dirt and causes alot of swirl marks on your paint. Google the two bucket car wash method.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,222 ✭✭✭robbie_998

ah... i didnt get swirls or anything though.. i used lots of water with the mix thing and did it in separate parts.

the one thing i was looking at while in B&Q was the JML spray on wipe off thing.... looks tempting but i dont trust it
