Redmond's used to import it back from Belgium and sell it here. Never saw it anywhere else, before the "Antwerpen" rebrand.

Aldi are currently selling the O'Sheas Dry Hopped Amber for €1.49. Fairly good price/quality ratio. Lots of other interesting stuff there still (i.e. not just O'Sheas), originally supposed to be a "craft beer festival" a few months ago? The stock seems to keep getting replenished anyway.

Actually, Eurobeers used to import it and sell it to Redmond's.

Lidl will have lots of beers coming up on 1st june, can't find a link online though, the catalogue they have up is last/this weeks.

Pity that the new ones are mostly British, but the Dupuisson at 10.5 % looks interesting.

Tesco has decent reductions on some alcohol products at the moment
    Whiskey, wine and gins

Plymouth and Tanqueray gins have good reductions on them for example

Did anyone see any of the McGargles Big Banging anywhere? Was glanevin / finglas, no stock

They have Big Bangin' in Tesco for €3.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,856 ✭✭✭✭Hotblack Desiato

Big Bangin' is 4 for €10 in Lidl according to an email I got, haven't verified it in person.

Usually on bank holiday weekends there are good whiskey offers in the major supermarkets, called into Tesco and Dunnes today and there weren't any good offers. A couple of euro off the massively inflated Irish retail price is not a bargain.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

RE: The Lidl deal - The '4 for €10' photo in the brochure is misleading because it includes the 750ml 'Abbaye de Vauclair' bottles.

I picked up two McGargles Big Bangin', One Trouble Brewing Dark Arts, and one Abbaye de Vauclair wheat beer, thinking they were all part of the 4 for €10, but they rang in at something like €11.75.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,196 ✭✭✭MonkstownHoop

Dunnes here in Cornelscourt have a euro off nearly all craft beer, ie Mcgargles double banging now 2.80 and Leann Follain 2.15, probably nation wide.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,639 ✭✭✭andekwarhola

Same offer in my local Dunnes as well.

The 750ml Leffe Blonde bottles are also back in Lidl for 2.99.

They've also a nice range of craft beer glass sets for 4.99 each (each set has 2 glasses).

They have Speigelau style stout glasses, small snifters, shakers and those sommelier (sp?) type ones.

The jamesons were mentioned in the bargain alerts forum. Often it is just a local store selling stuff for nothing to get rid of it. But this jameson shows up online

Picked up the last bottle of Jameson Black Barrel in my local Tesco (Tralee Square) earlier. Price beats the duty free price at Dublin Airport which makes it a decent bargain in my book!

Plenty of the Caskmates and a few Bushmills 10YO still left.

    Thanks very much
Picked up the last black barrel on the shelf in Galway
    Bushmills 10 is gone,
3 caskmates left on the shelf. Might save someone a trip, they may restock but my experience with that one is then at they don't..

The non standard jamesons were all sold out in my tesco last night, there appeared to be a big enough shelf space for them too. I meant to go in this morning and see if it was restocked, as its sunday hours there is possibly more chance of it having being restocked by allowable sale time, and not having to get up too early!

I would not be bothered drinking it myself but was going to buy a couple just to have set aside for random presents. I do this in the duty free too if I do not see anything I really want myself.

Lidl is selling Dubuisson Bush Blonde (10.5% ABV) at €8.99 for 4x330ml or €2.25 a bottle. Ratings on Beer Advocate are all over the place. I'm trying it for the first time now, and yep, it's pretty strong stuff, but very palatable.

O'Hara's Freebird white IPA for €1.76/500ml bottle in Dunnes at the moment (at least it is in Dunnes Stores Ballyogan). It may not be for everyone, but I like it, so it's a steal at that price.

Tesco - 6 bottles marques de caceras crianza 2012 for €50 + 5% off the full price. Net price is 45.50.

Unusual for tesco to have a genuine wine offer. :-P

Not so much a bargain but a warning to be careful with the tesco 4 for 10 on craft beer offer. I picked up some today and one of the beers was on a different offer but mixed up with the 4 for 10, so I almost got charged full price for all 4. As with any offer in Tesco, make sure to check your receipt before leaving the shop.

Yeah same thing happened with me. Fortunately they were sound about it and applied the discount anyway.

Officially no. Customs due and in theory they're not even meant to let you pay it without an import licence.

Craft gin sale on again in Dunnes for the next few weeks. Fiver off a select few including Dingle (only saw notice in passing and didn't get full list).

In tandem with the €10 off €50 spend vouchers, this makes for a decent deal which I'll be making full use of on my next visit!

Yesterday, Lidl Dundrum had Sapporo Premium lager bottles at €4.50 for four = €1.12 each. This the EU-brewed version, not all the way from Japan, but it's still more than OK.

Definitely the best of the ersatz-Asian lagers available, IMO.

Might as well share my experience with this.

I've bought stuff which contains alcohol before and had it delivered no problem (angostura bitters are much cheaper on amazon), so I ordered some beers that I had tasted in Bristol and never saw for sale over here. Shipped to the NI Parcel motel depot for delivery to Dublin.

There was a longer than normal delivery time, the beer merchant said it had been delivered to PM on the 18th, only got check in email on 22nd July. No movement for three days so opened ticket and was told it had been seized by revenue.

Had to pretend I was unaware that you couldn't a) bring booze in unaccompanied and b) that it was against the t+c's of PM. They released it without charging the excise duties, but had to collect it from the depot as they wouldn't ship it (charged me for it, all the same, when it was checked in).

Eventually collected it on the 26th. It was clear as day from the packaging that I had ordered beer. I'd say PM are obliged to let revenue know about such shipments as a matter of course, hence the delay. I wouldn't do it again, maybe go through a courier company or maybe amazon, as they use their own branded packaging.

I'd be tempted to order some whiskey on Amazon and ship it using Parcel Motel.

Potentially risky but the standard Amazon packaging should allow it go through.

Had similar experience like $hifty but from brewdog.com. Pleaded ignorance and they released it but haven't risked it again

Had a much better experience from Parcelmotel last week - ordered beer from Cloudwater on Wednesday night, shipped Thursday morning and it was delivered at 9am in Dublin on Saturday. I suppose its risky all the same, might be worth asking for a plain box as opposed to a branded one if you're going to try it.
