Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Is this a drinks bargain thread?
    it used to be. Similar thing happened in the booze deals megathread.

    You may aswell just stop drinking it, I think it is getting you too worked up.
    95% of the time I usually drink it straight from the can.

    Tesco have the guinness cases 2 for €35 at the moment. Its's not showing online though. Carlsberg is also 2 for 35 and you can mix & match.

    EDIT: I see people saying it finished yesterday, my local was stocked high as they were not selling, heard a guy say to his missus they wouldn't touch it even at that price. So they might well be on offer in the actual shop.

    Are you sure?
    That went in as a Christmas special at €24.58, I think.
    At €20 it would be cheaper than the 70cl bottles!:eek:

    Yep, picked up a bottle for €20 in my local in Tralee last night. There was a basket of them in the centre of the drinks isle with the red reduced-price SEL on it. Can't imagine the discount is specific to that individual store..??

    Picked up a bottle at that price myself. The missus, a fan of gin before it was fashionable to be a fan of gin, tasted it last night and wasn't too impressed. Still, I suppose it'll do for sloe gin or something. Or hand sanitiser, for the year that's in it :D:D:D

    Anyone know what's going on with the 70cl Baileys in Centra?

    Started off at €10 last week. then went to €12 and now up on €15 or €14.78 to be exact but all on the same special offer stand... is that odd or is it just in such high demand?

    I'd say baileys have so much stock at moment that their shifting it to literally make room. In saying that tescos have bottles 70cl for €10, so buy 2 of them for 140cl and it's still cheaper than buying one 1l bottle for €24.

    Do any of you discerning types notice a difference between Aldi Bailey's and real Bailey's? The Aldi one is always around 7 or 8 euro.

    The cheap Aldi one is made with wine and tastes noticeably inferior to Bailey's.

    The Lidl Deluxe is basically identical to the real thing but retails for 9.80 and the real thing seems to be €10 everywhere at present, so a great option ordinarily but a bit pointless at present.

    There's a voucher for €2 off the Lidl Deluxe version on the Lidl Plus app at the moment which makes it worth getting IMO.

    you will be lucky to get one I am afraid. My mate has given €800 for one from a fella at the other side of the country. Sold out everywhere and people are charging extortionate prices on DD.

    You could pick up the 2019 version handily enough, not the 2020 however.

    Your mate was crazy to pay that price tbh, they are changing hands for around 350 (which is still a crazy price...)

    not the 2020 - its the brewmasters last year, with Midelton. Heading state side i believe.
    My buddy did try quite hard and trust me, this is the cheapest he could get (at short notice, yes) but still.

    Not sure if it's a permanent reduction to compensate for the banning of multi-buys, but I've noticed price drops on some wines in Tesco e.g. these are all down to €7
    * Los Cardos range
    * Santa Rita 120
    * Cono Sur Bicicleta

    These would have been regulars in the 6 for €40 deals they used to run.

    It's being snapped up fast, I don't work in Tesco but I was just talking to the rep from Dillons who supply Hennessy, and he's got requests from his head office to grab as much as he can for them.

    I should have mentioned, from their pub at Grand Canal.
    It's within my 5km so I was there to get takeaway pints and food.

    They're still legal but discouraged. Most places have stopped as they've run out of kegs from the main macros.

    They pour from their taps into an open 500ml can, and then put a top on it, and seal with a machine.
    So it’s essentially an off licence, rather than takeaway pints.

    Depends on the beer. But it’s not cheap.
    I had a Mashtag Red Ale 9% was €7.29
    and a Nothernmonk Heaven imp stout 11% costing €10.
    Burger and chips was €19.50.
    And of course I got 5% off for being an equity member.

    My brother was saying they were selling takeaway pints of Punk for something like €3.25 at one stage during lockdown. Dunno if that's still the case.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 3,161 Mod ✭✭✭✭Black Sheep

    If you could drink them in the vicinity of the pub and it was a nice evening then I could see how that would be reasonably appealing, a little bit like what people do up at the Barge in Portobello. But is it fair to say that the COVID restrictions have put a stop to all of that? I presume so.

    Saw this in the Bargain Alerts thread:
    Not sure how new this is but Torc Brewing are selling their beers direct for €30 a case (12 X 500ml bottles) with €5 flat shipping - cheapest I've seen from a small brewery

    Anyone familiar with this stuff? Not much mention of it in here and the most recent was about 4 years ago and a lot can change in that time.
