What Primary School to choose?

    Hi
would be grateful for any thoughts or advice from parents on the following.

We are considering what primary school to send our children to. The issue is whether to send our child to our local school near home or to a primary school near work. Both are very good schools so there is no real issue education or facilities wise.

The reason this issue has arisen is that we have basically zero family support where we live, thus the consideration re after school and creche care.

My main worry is that if we chose a school away from our home area that our children will not feel rooted in the area or have friends, nothwithstanding being part of local gaa club, cubs in the locaility etc.

Would be grateful for any thoughts people may have on teh above

Unfortunately this is a common enough problem. Have you been allocated a place in both schools? One of them might be full and you could be put on a waiting list, which might swing the decision one way.
Plenty of children go to schools outside their area. You mention support, which is of course a huge problem ( when you don't have any). Are there any creches that collect form the school for after school care? More and more creches are now collecting directly from the school.
Some kids will find friends no matter where they are. If anything, going to a different school than the local kids could double the number of potential friends. You mention the clubs etc in the area, which is of course a great resource for meeting other kids. The holidays are long and most kids will befriend those in their locality over time.
