Yeah my friend changed from the Coombe to Holles Street very far along. The day she was supposed to go in for her first appointment her waters broke, so she registered & was then admitted! :D

    Hi,
I discussed this with my GP as really wasn't happy with how things were going with my consultant (I was in Holles St. private).

My GP got a bit defensive and very opinionated saying that Ireland has one of the best maternity systems in the world, with infant and mother care following best practice.....

She said that it is do-able. You'd need to ring round and find somewhere else to take you. I would have still ended up with private consultants bills so didn't change.

As it happened it all worked out very well in the end and lucky I didn't change. Holles St. has exceptional fetal care and would be where a lot of people from the country would be referred to for specialist car. My baby had problems and I would have ended up in Holles St. anyway.

I don't know how serious the problems with the care you're currently getting is. I found that once I was admitted the staff were amazing and my opinion of the place totally changed.

    op,
sorry to hear what your g/f has experienced with Holles Street.this is my story, hope it helps. (short version)im from midlands, born in Holles Street as Tullamore Hosp was a disaster and now has no mat unit., i was 3.5 wks overdue, middle of winter my mother up and down on bus to dub as neither parent drove at time. Doctor told her at 12am that she would b discharged next morning as she "clearly" not going to have baby yet. i was born @ 4.10am, 10lbs 2 oz. :P Doctors/ consultants dont always know best, he treated her badly but she has not a bad word to say against Holles Street, after having 3 of us there, 1978, 1981 and 1985.
it is the "National maternity Hospital" and so gets priority treatment from Gov over other hospitals.
we found out we were expecting in Jan, we were working and living in Cork, i was first seen in CUMH. Woo hoo new hospital, i thought.:D things changed in Feb, had to move to Clare, im now booked into limerick.Physically the complete opposite of CUMH, BUT care is exactly the same.there is no such thing as a perfect hospital, all are different, ive heard wildy differing stories about different hospitals in Dublin, and all over, but its up to you and your g/f at the end of the day.:)

We switched from Rotunda to Holles St at about 4 months. GP just wrote a referral and moved us. No hassle.

In what way is she not having a pleasant time? It maybe that what she was expecting is different to the reality?
