I'm connecting via ethernet (except for the iPad which is WiFi and has a static IP currently as I turned DHCP off on all devices in case of conflicting IP's). Homesharing is indeed on across all relevant devices and logged in with the same single Apple ID.

Here's a visio diagram of my set up (the router is upstairs and a switch is downstairs both connected via gigabit homeplugs):

Tried the whole thing again still no different

iTunes goes through the erase and restore of blah blah blah
    Restores and verifies
    Restores apple tv firmware

Tells me to unplug from iTunes and reconnect to tv

Pyongyang you seem to have done everything right so I'm at a loss.

Sham it sounds like the same problem I had, although I'm not exactly sure how I fixed it. Def something to do with dfu mode

Are you following all instructions from link above?

Is the whole snow breeze bit working as described in the links?

    Just a quick question.

I'm looking to connect my AppleTV2 to my laptop via USB,
(Not for anything illegal I promise ;)),
Does anybody know where I can get the micro USB to USB needed to do so?
I don't have one and I can't find one anywhere.

    Cheers

dont know if such a thing exists, but you cant physically connect and mount an external hdd to atv2 regardless,

what exactly are you trying to achieve, there may be a better way ?

You picked me up wrong, I want to connect my ATV2 to my computer so I can jailbreak it.

But I can't get a usb to micro usb (for the ATV2 end.)

Carphone Warehouse might not be a bad shout, I presumed someone on here would know, down to the amount of users talking about jailbreaking.

    Thanks the reply bro.

carphone warehouse do a universal usb to mini usb cable with interchgangable tips for phones, one of which includes a micro usb tip for your apple tv. they're 16 quid i believe.

or if you have any device that uses usb to micro usb then the cable will work (i used one from a htc phone)

Hi folks. Am I right in saying that apple TV will allow me to play my Itunes movies on my laptop through my HD TV without cables.

How does it work??. I know it sounds like a stupid question for those of you that are in the know how..:)

    1. Latest version of iTunes on your pc
    2. Include all media you want to share in your iTunes library
    3. Sign in with your apple id on iTunes on your pc
    4. On iTunes turn on. Home sharing
    5. Connect apple tv to the same wifi as your pc
    6. On the atv sign in with same apple id and switch on home sharing
    7. Browse your iTunes library on your tv
    8. Play.

    That's how you do it.

And that's before you get into the world of jailbreaking

    hi
if i jailbreak my apple tv with somethinig like greenpoison, is that enough to allow it to play movies, or do you have to install xmbc on both your PC and your apple tv to be able to do this.

    thanks

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,706 ✭✭✭120_Minutes

you'll need xbmc on the apple tv and your media shared on your home network. thats it. (after a bit of setting up)

thanks 12o minutes. have the media shared allready, just need to figure out the xmbc on the apple tv.
do toy know, can this install be done from windows, or do you need to be running linux to do it...

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,706 ✭✭✭120_Minutes

the method i used to jailbreak (snowbreeze) added a new menu to the apple tv called "nitotv" and in that menu you can install xbmc to it, very easy. i dont know if other jailbreak methods do this.

  • Registered Users Posts: 432 ✭✭LithiumKid1976

    cool thanks for that..

Cheers. Sounds like a good idea as I dont need to connect my laptop to my HD TV and worry about a graphics card.

    What will jailbreaking do???

allow you to play all media types via xbmc, instead of the types apple want you play (mp4 etc)

apple removed samba, so you'll need to install it yourself. Instructions here:
