    Just a guess

but the people who have netflix are you using appletv with a US address to get the wider range of movies and tv shows? and the people who dont see netflix have just registered an irish itunes account?

I did have a US Netflix account with a VPN a long time ago but it was before my ATV2 days. Netflix shows up on ATV2 under Internet. I can log in no problem, but cant access any content.

Yeah I realise that. What I`m saying is Netflix is showing on my ATV2 with an Irish IP address.

Do Apple use IP addresses to determine location? I thought it was the address of your credit card.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,815 ✭✭✭mailforkev

You can manually select a location country in Settings. You do then need an account for that country to purchase though.

I'm on latest iOS (jailbroken), Ireland as location and Irish Apple ID, and Netflix is first entry under Internet for me.

Still not working for me. Tried again this evening but no joy. Unplugged everything form the Apple TV and gave it a few minutes before connecting back up and rebooting but still that dreaded message.

Won't be renewing as this is just pissing me off now haha. Have tried it with PS3 and it works fine, it's a pain in the hole using that. I use my ATV2 for all my media so would like to have that option for Netflix too. Its all the more annoying that I can log in through Apple TV but not view anything.

I searched high and low over the internet for a fix but they are all reboot the machine etc and none have worked.

I don't have that menu option but I presume that's the same action as holding down the menu and play button on the Apple TV to get it to reboot? I tried that several times without success. I also found a reboot Apple TV option in nito TV settings, which I also did but didn't change anything. :(

Would restoring back to factory settings do anything ?

It would lose my jailbreak. I don't want to have the hassle of jailbreaking and setting everything up that comes with it again.

I'm just going to have to use the PS3 for the rest of my 30 day trial and then I'll cancel. Might have given a go if I had it working on the ATV2.

Thanks for trying to help. :)

I finally got the netflix option on my internet by going into itunes in settings and changing my location to US.

However I'm now having the same issue as adox I'm using 4.4.4 JB.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 63 ✭✭BobMcBob

Have the same problem with Netflix not showing up, just remembered that I had changed the /etc/hosts to stop software updates, so think that might be the problem. Will try changing that file back and see what happens tonight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 961 ✭✭✭gingernut79

The 4.4.4 jb from seasonpass installed the Netflix perfect for me, I used the untethered one that was released end of December .

I've just about had it with Apple TV/ iTunes , I have ATV2 running latest SW (Not Jailbroken ) and latest iTunes . I run both off a Belkin PlayMax Router , I cant get AirPlay icon on iTunes BUT worse is the fact that I cant get more than 30 minutes viewing without homeshare bugging out on me and having to reset iTunes .

Any ideas would be most welcome otherwise there will be an ATV on adverts before I head to the madhouse.

I updated my ATV2 software (from 4.4.4) over the weekend as Apple released a new update (not sure what the number is) and now Netflix works fine, I've not tried to JB it yet.

    Hi

what exactly are the differences between 4.4.3 & 4.4.4,i have an untethered 4.4.3 and it is working flawlessly,is there any advantage to upgrading, the only difference i am aware of is the mirroring but i can get around that by using the VLC streamer which i have.

    Rgds

sham, if i remember the problem you had was getting the ATV into DFU mode. almost every guide says to unplug it from the mains when you're trying to do this. when i updated and jailbroke the other day, i tried as per the guide and it didnt work, but as soon as i plugged into the mains and retried that step it worked.

so give that a go, and if all else fails i'll try it again for you.

This could be location settings. After the restore/jb my region is set to cupertino and I've left it alone.

You can't talk about that particular addon here James . A mod will just delete it .

I wouldn't be relying on it if that's the only way of watching movies and tv shows you have .

I've had Apple TV for over a year and all was working fine until recently. Now I'm having trouble with home sharing and it finding my iTunes library. Most of the time it can't find the library even thought everything is turned on and when it does find the library it only plays for a while before disconecting again. Is anyone else having the same problem or have any ideas?

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 286 ✭✭Lockster

OK I think I have found what the problem has been. I'm with Vodafone for home broadband and was using my old BT Voyager 2110 router/modem. But they sent me a new modem the Huawei HG556a and seeing as this is a N rated wifi router I swapped over to this and this is when the problems started. I've looked in the router settings but don't know what to change to get the home sharing to work. I've swapped back to the old BT Voyager 2110 and all is working again. Does anyone know what to change in the Huawei HG556a settings to get home sharing to work? It connected to the internet fine and I could stream directly from itunes just not from my home pc.

    Thanks you.

There is another forum dedicated to this router as it tends to have issues.

Just got an AppleTV yesterday, and put XBMC on it. Very impressed so far! Loving AirPlay.

I've seen a bit of debate about whether to plug in the power while jailbreaking, and I had the same problem as others; with not being about to put the AppleTV into DFU mode while not plugged in.

In my case, I discovered that I was able to do it after I unplugged all other USB devices from my laptop. The only other thing that I had plugged in was the wireless receiver for my mouse.

My guess is that the AppleTV can't get enough power from the laptop alone when the USB power supply is being shared with other USB devices.

    Hi

for ATV 2 whcih has not been jailbroken there is only the inbuilt internet feature which is restricted to the sites listed.

For the Jailbroken ATV2 there is a web surfer called "Couch Surfer Pro" which is part of the software package from ATV(Flash)Black,as this is the one i use i am unsure if there is an add on for XBMC.

    Is your ATV Jailbroken?

    Rgds

Couch Surfer Pro is part of the ATV(Flash) Black.which is paid for, approx 30 USD.
How ever there are always other ways,(hot topic at the moment)

Try the XBMC specialist websites and forums there is plent of help there.

Or just google it with specific buzz words(if you know what i mean)

You can use ifaith to save you shsh blobs from the current firmware, upgrade and test to see what it's like and then downgrade back again to the current firmware.
