Lads if your having buffering problems then create a advancedsettings.XML .

It speeded up things for me considerably .
Didn't fully resolve the buffering but massive difference .

For the novices like me here's how ;


open up notepad and paste this in :

<advancedsettings>

<network>
<cachemembuffersize>30242880</cachemembuffersize>
</network>

</advancedsettings>

save the document as advancedsettings.xml (not .txt)

then ssh into your atv2 (maybe using WINscp thats what i use ) and copy your saved .xml into this directory ..

/private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/XBMC/userdata

I tried the above xml file and i could stream NOTHING, so i quickly reversed it.

dont know about mkv's sorry.

I found a bug in xbmc that affect both stable and nightly build on the ATV2 and iPad. The python compile files weren't getting created, so it would show this screen for 2 seconds on every addons when it loaded the next page.



The bug has been logged http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/12079, and should be fixed in the next nightly build https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/commit/83a16c2ae1bae9a581bd54db21056b4af47c3a63. But if you want to fix it without loading the next nightly, ssh using Putty (windows) or Terminal (Mac) to your box and run the following command:

find / -name python2.6 -print | xargs chmod -R 777

Alternatively using winscp (Windows) or cyberduck (mac), change the folder permissions to 777 on the following folder

/private/var/null/Applications/XBMC.frappliance/Frameworks/lib/python2.6/

and tick "Set group, owner and permissions recursively" not sure what this should be for cyberduck .

What's the cheapest way to get an Apple tv ASAP (i.e. I need it for a birthday this week).

Can confirm that xbmc (Eden beta) is working fine for me on 4.4.4

Is there any real need or advantage to updating the firmware? I have ATV2 over a year and haven't updated the firmware since, as I don't fancy having to jailbreak again.

The only real advantage I can see in 4.4.4 is screen mirroring with an iPad 2.

Haven't had time to do it today, so hopefully I'll get it done this week some time.

Thanks. I have an iPad 1 so no reason I can see to update so.

Btw, for anyone interested, I've stopped using XBMC for streaming my media over my local network. I only use it now for online streaming.

For my local network I'm using Plex. You have to install it on your Mac as well but I don't mind that at all.

It has a much nicer interface, is a lot more stable and plays more formats than XBMC. It also supports 5.1 audio tracks which I could never get to play on XBMC.

Don't update to latest firmware then plex doesnt work I don't think .

I am hoping someone can help.

i have a Jailbroken AppleTV2 and with the launch of Netflix today i am wondering how i get access to Netflix through the ATV2 as it is currently not listed in the menu.
I have ATV2 4.3 Jailbroken(untethered) will i have to update to get the netflix option or can it be located as an addon for XBMC etc.

Not sure what version it is on. I updated to 4.4.4 last week. There is an untethered seas0npass JB for this now. XBMC Eden beta is working fine on it. I have not seen a Netflix addon for XBMC

There is a built in Netlix interface on the main menu of the ATV2. It's always been there for US Netflix accounts. Haven't tried it with the Irish version but I'm gonna give it a go tonight.

Ok I just signed up for a free trial and tried to log in on ATV2. It accepts me email and password and I'm logged in but then the options are Genres and search. When I click on genres I get a "Netflix is currently unavailable. Try again later"

Now i can browse the titles but can't watch the movies. Airplay from ipad2 looks crappy :rolleyes:
