Unless its written into his contract, something along the lines of "if you do anything that can in some way harm the club your contract will be terminated". If the club lose more in sponsorship than what the player is worth, then sell him.
Other than that why should he be sacked? Should no club ever buy him? That makes no sense what so ever. Should he have go on the dole? Taxpayer pay his wages?

Almost every contract in the world is dependent upon your own good behaviour, I can guarantee that I would be sacked from my job on grounds much less serious than this simply for having any sort of criminal record, and have seen people in other jobs I worked being sacked for something that happened outside of work at company functions.

I'm sure there's a "bringing the club into disrepute" clause in his contract somewhere, just like any company. I think this is more than covered by that.

    It's different in a ground.

Personally, I've abused a player up and down a sideline after "mental issues" were rumoured.

    He later bought me pints.

You almost appear proud of mocking the mental state of a fellow sportsman. There's a difference with the fans shouting insults at a player and a fellow player doing the same thing. I'm not saying it's acceptable from a fan, far from it actually - but a player abusing an other player like that and like you did? Despicable, absolutely despicable.

Maybe you would, but I don't see how it would help. As I said earlier, can no club pick him up if Hearts sacked him?

Its called the quality of your workforce and the ability to trust the people you employ. Its why companies vet people prior to employing them. It guarantees that he will no longer bring the reputation of the club into disrepute.

I still don't see how it would help either party here. If it would be any benefit to Hearts he'd be gone. And if no company would accept him for moral reasons and he was on the dole for life, it's just a burden on the tax payer.

Unbelievable that you don't see the reasoning behind people thinking he should be let go by the club. Would you be happy that a teacher on the sex offenders register should continue to be employed as a teacher?

This isn't a teacher. It's a footballer. He was charged in court given punishment. If you want to take a moral stance about footballers, half of the players in the EPL should be sacked.

That didn't actually answer my question. This is a footballer who plays in grounds where children go every weekend, not just in the stands but hang aound areas where footballers leave and enter the stadium. Footballers are role models for a lot of children. I am not taking a moral stance on footballers. I am taking a moral stance of anyone with access to children.

Is the soccer forum a place for this discussion?

I wouldn't be surprised if Hearts did sack him in weeks to come but with the way that club is run...

12 and 14 is not really borderline legal age

The links might give more insight into what actually happened and partly explain the Hearts reaction

    http://www.heartsfc.co.uk/articles/20110624/hearts-statement_2241384_2381659

Thanks for the links. They cleared up any doubt in my mind. I normally don't care for football making moral judgements but in this case I can't see how they can keep him on. If I was a fellow player, I would shun him.
