    hey guys

i came to the balbriggan youth service band day today - nitrogen :D - and danny from the coronas did a sound check a little while ago!!!!

apparently the coronas are the 'surprise special guest' later on - woo hoo.

its €15 for the full day of music and there have been about 6 bands on so far since 12:30. its an alcohol free event:rolleyes: but the sun is shining and there are quite a few people here and there is a great buzz.

the gig is in the ringcommons sports grounds - old m1 (r132) between walshstown and balbriggan - look out for the nitrogen sign near courtlough turn off. think for some reason the organisers could not advertise before today that the coronas were playing as they are in marley park in a few weeks.....

so if you want to see them while the sun is shining today in an intimate setting, come on down.

Just before everyone goes rushing down to the Bog O The Ring, this is a strictly 13-20 years of age event.

Yeah they played and by all accounts were top class. My son was at it, his first concert and said organisation was very good and there was a great atmosphere with the people. R.T.E done a spot on morning Ireland about it. Great to hear young people saying "you dont need alcohol to enjoy yourself".

Well done to the organisers and well done to the youth who were very well behaved.

Just top add a little, Not only is Danny Reilly from The Coronas a talented musican but he is also a brilliant Gaelic player who plays midfield for Templeogue Synge St and has represented Dublin on a few occasions. He Played in 2003 All-Ireland minor final for Dublin. He is also the son of irish singing legend Mary Black.

I'm reproducing this email here with the kind permission of Derval Cumiskey for anybody who has missed the photographs & reporting on this fantastic event.

    Hi Everyone

I'd just like to share the three links below from our youth music festival, Nitrogen, which took place on Monday just gone by. It went really great and a huge thank you to all who helped make it happen and make it a huge success. The message to promote positive youth mental health was a great success, all the while promoting youth socialising without alcohol and drugs. The festival also facilitated integration among young people which is clearly evident from the photos.

Please, please take a minute to have a look at the photos from the balbriggan.info website, I promise they will make you smile.

Morning Ireland took a trip to check out the festival. Listen to the show here http://www.rte.ie/news/morningireland/player.html?20110628,2988765,2988765,flash,257

The Irish Times also dropped out to Balbriggan to see Nitrogen in action. Read more: http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2011/0628/1224299681294.html

Balbriggan.info website with loads of photos and videos

Also, keep your eyes on TV3 in November for the National youth citizenship awards, Nitrogen will feature as part of Ireland's Top Teens on TV3.

A huge thank you to all who shared a part in the funding towards this event
(Starbucks, O2 Think Big, Wavin, Balbriggan Community Policing Forum, Balbriggan Credit Union, The European Integration Fund (Pobal)).

And a special thank you to all who volunteered their time, it couldn't have happened without you getting on board.

    Thanks again
    kind regards
    Derval

I've removed her contact details but if anybody is interested in learning more about the great work that the Youth Service do in the area drop me a PM and I'll pass them on to you. Volunteers are always welcome.
