I thought I'd start my own thread rather than hi-jacking someone else's.

I want to learn more about dev and possibly move into a junior development role. I've been working in IT for about 10 years at this stage and I already have a bit of C# and Perl knowledge but it's just from messing around on my own.

It's been suggested that I get involved in some open source work to gain knowledge and experience and also to prove to interviewers that I'm making the effort.

I'm pretty green when it comes to development and I don't understand a lot of the concepts to be honest. I had a look at CodePlex but I'm finding the projects are daunting and seem to require a lot more experience than I have.

Can someone suggest a good open-source site that I could look at and which would have small simple stuff that I could work on or contribute to?

    Thanks!

Sourceforge.net: pick a project you like, look at the open bugs.
Maybe pick a WordPress plugin and enhance it. Or look at the WordPress bug list and try to fix some.

Yes, and it looks like 144 projects are looking for C# developers.

Sourceforge have a page on joining a project.

    Thanks.

I joined SourceForge last week but had a bit of trouble tracking down projects on it. Having said that I didn't spend ages looking either. Thanks for this.

It is a lot more difficult to find that section than it used to be. They seem to be focussing on making projects easy to download rather than accommodating developers (which is a good idea).
