Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

“You have to grow slowly. Before you go to University you have to go to kindergarten, then to high school. Right now in England they are about 10 years old [in ground skills]. I’ve been teaching in America 25 years, my brother was here 15 years before that so we have been here teaching all that time. They are babies in England right now, 10 years old…It takes time.”

Appearently Royce Gracie doesn't think much of UK BJJ as above. Therefore by extension Ireland and the rest of Europe would be in the same basket. Your thoughts lads and lassies ?

I think hes right, In America BJJ is alot more developed because it has been around longer. I dont think hes saying anything too negative here, just that in the uk/europe we have a lot of developing to do.

    So?

Didn't stop Andy Ryan winning the Pan Am's.

That's just one example of where Ireland is flying at the moment. It's still early he's right, but we're going to be excellent.

He may be right but who really cares what he says bout the UK/Ireland?
We are only babies but we now have 2 home grown Black belts and I dunno how many brown. We also have black belts who are staying here and correct me if Im wrong but this year might be the 1st year one of our competitions has a black belt division.
As I said we're babies but we're takin a nice stretch at the moment

Fair enough comments, but will it take, say, 2 decades before European BJJ is up there with Brazil and the US ? One thing about the US, the Americans had a better grappling base to start from as wrestling is quite populiar in high schools etc. As wrestling is more populiar in Eastern Europe, Ukraine, Bulgaria etc will Eastern Europe lead the way ?

( I googled the European BJJ championships but the links I found only gave the names of medal winners, not the country).
