Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

might run in waders as a fancy dress fisherman this year :

MONDAY: A wet day, with further spells of heavy rain. Extensive hill and coastal fog too. Similar temperatures to recent days, with afternoon maxima ranging 12 to 14 degrees. Winds will be generally moderate southwesterly.

According to Accuweather, the rain will be "tapering off". :pac::pac:

    weatherunderground:

Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain in the morning, then partly cloudy. High of 13°C. Winds from the SSW at 30-50 km/h. Chance of rain 40% with rainfall amounts near 8.4 mm possible.

The hourly forecast has SE winds at 16 km/h at 9am and 53km/h at 12 o clock!

If that actually happens we have a breeze at the start and a gale blowing us home for the last 10K

I work at sea and find the windguru forecast to be most reliable. Here it is http://www.windguru.cz/int/index.php?sc=4862.

They predict the rain stopping before 9 and cloud breaking up by 12. Moderate to fresh southwesterly but I suppose you won't feel that in the city.

Lads can anyone tell me whats the deal with the RDS for parking for the expo,

I'm lucky enough to have a place to stay (for FREE!) literally 5min walk from the start line but I'll have no parking so will need to be throwing the car somewhere else.

However before I park it up for the few days I'd like to collect my number and visit the expo at the RDS, would it be insane of me to drive to the RDS and try get parking?

I got there by other means before, but there shouldn't be a major issue with parking. It's not like people are turning up and parking for the day, there will be a constant stream of people arriving and leaving after they have their numbers so parking shouldn't be to much of an issue.

    Or just get the bus.

you should get parked no problem down on serpentine avenue, which is directly across from the entrance to the main hall

Just a heads up that there are rail disruptions for the DART and people coming up from the sout-east on the Rosslare train:

Southside DART & Rosslare disruption: No trains operating Grand Canal Dock to Sydney Parade by Corporate Communications
    Friday 28th October, 06.30hrs
Iarnród Éireann advises customers that there is serious disruption to southside DART services and Rosslare / Gorey rail services.
The line is closed between Grand Canal Dock and Sydney Parade due to flood damage in the vicinity of a bridge pier at the Dodder Bridge, to the south end of Lansdowne Road Station.
    Services affected are:
DART: DART services will operate Howth/Malahide to Grand Canal Dock, and from Sydney Parade to Greystones (note Southside service will be reduced in frequency, operating every 30 minutes, to the scheduled Greystones DART timetable). There will be no DART service between Grand Canal Dock and Sydney Parade. Dublin Bus will accept rail tickets for customers affected.
Rosslare/Gorey: Rosslare and Gorey services will operate Rosslare/Gorey to Bray, with bus transfers between Bray and Dublin Connolly.
Other commuter: Other commuter services which operate from Drogheda or Maynooth to Dun Laoghaire and Bray will now only operate from Drogheda/Maynooth to Pearse. Dublin Bus will accept rail tickets for customers travelling south of Pearse.

The length of time this disruption will continue for is currently being assessed, and it is hoped to confirm this today. However, it will be for a number of days at least.
More detailed service information will be provided as soon as possible.
Iarnród Éireann apologises for the inconvenience caused.

I'd like to ask someone to pick up my pack in the RDS for me and assume they can if they have my signed acceptance slip?

Also, will this take them much extra time to pick up mine?

It won't take much additional time to have someone else pick up your acceptance slip, if it's allowed. Are there instructions on the acceptance slip about this?
Might be an idea to give them a photocopy of your driver's license or passport, just in case.

I talked to the DCM people about this the other day. It's fine for anyone to collect your chip and so on, so long as they bring your SIGNED acceptance letter. Their knowing your date of birth is also a good idea, according to the lady I talked to.

Just wondering about what time should you be at the start line/bag drop at? Is 9-9.15 ok at bag drop would you think? How many minutes walk is it between the two?

Am in the 3rd wave myself? Thanks.

That should be fine, there's only a few minutes walk between bag drop and wave three.
There'll be a map in the race pack you get at the expo.

Every year they stress that its a 15 min walk from the bag drop to the start over the loudspeaker (they send you arseways up by the Dail/Baggot Street). I think its sensationalism on their part but its 10 mins alright yeah. They wont let you go straight up fitz street from Merrion Square.
Its a long cold walk in race gear, so have a throwaway top to wear.

    Even into wave 3?

anyway, no harm in leaving plenty of time, best not to be in a mad rush that day. And as Brian says, dress warm for the wait before the start.

They were quite strict about it last year. They seemed to want everyone to go round by the Dail from the bag drop. IIRC there were turnoffs for the different pens last year. I think the first turnoff was down Fitzwilliam Lane (past McGrattans :p) and the second was down Baggot Street. This makes perfect sense of course for the old course and i was surprised they didnt change this system last year when the direction of the start changed. Hopefully they see sense this year. They're aiming to get everyone walking in the same direction from bag drop on Merrion Square South to the start which is fair enough i guess.

More important how far from the finish line is the bag drop:D

The turnoff past McGrattans was for wave 2, that's why I'm wondering - I don't know if there is a way to get to wave 3 past the Dail?

It'll all be in the race pack anyway...

finish line is the north side of the square, and you have to walk around the east and south sides (past the bag drops) to get out. Then on to Upper Merrion street and left down Fitzwilliam Lane to McGrattans :pac:

    Just so everyone is aware

    Wheelchair start is 9.45

    Sub 3.30(Wave1) start is 9.50

    3.30 - 4.15 (wave 2 ) start is 9.55

    4.15 + (wave 3) start 10.00 am

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,993 ✭✭✭griffin100

I didn't come across any pens or signage to that effect last year. I dropped off my bag and wandered down to the start via a lane way entering the throng right at the 3.45 pacers  I'll definitely keep an eye out for pens this year :)

Just a warning about parking around RDS. Went to park on Anglesea road (beside river) last year and there was a load of cars Clamped.

Parking signs where very misleading, something like...

    Sign 1....Pay Parking 7 am to 7pm

    Sign 2....Clearway between 4 to 7pm

Best of luck to everybody - hope you all hit your targets.

First-timers make sure you enjoy it; you'll only ever have 1 maiden marathon - soak up the atmosphere and finish with a smile - no matter what you do it'll be a PB.

I'll be in screaming you on with my 11 day old son who will also be screaming unless he's sleeping!

    Come on the 3:30s!

allrite i need a bit of help. Im in dub and going to the RDS tommoro to collect my race pack but I can not make heads or tales of the dublin bus routes. I just moved up here last week and haven't used any of the busses yet. I took a look at dublin bus website but no joy in figuring out timetables.

Im not just asking to have ye do the work for me but i genuinely cant figure them out. I need to get from glasnevin to RDS and back again.

Any help, i realise i will prob have to change bus somewhere on the quays.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 241 ✭✭longford76

Some buses that pass by the RDS are 7, 45 and 84.

I think the 7 is pretty regular on the weekends...the timetables will confirm that. All stop on Nassau Street alongside Trinity (or they did last time I used them - last stop in the row with Grafton Street behind you)

    Hope that helps

If you go to the route planner and type glasnevin in the from section and "rds main" you should get the buses you need.

Add the number 4 route to the list which seems to go every 30 minutes and goes right past it.
