Your best bet is to get on a bike and cycle around the course itself, well worth the effort.

Have seen that, they could have advertised this cut off much better
IMHO.

- Maybe a viral mail campaign and FB/Twitter updates offering to keep the fee at €70 up to the evening of 10 mile race.

- Offer a retrospective discount for people who have since entered the race series to add marathon at a discount using their series bib no.

Someone posted to my blog about these boards. I'm running the Dublin Marathon this year, my first marathon, and targeting about 4 hours 45 minutes as a time (although I'd like to get nearer 4-15, but will see how training goes).

There'll be 3 or 4 pacers per band for the following time goals:
3hrs
3:15
3:30
3:45
4:00
4:15
4:30 and
5hrs.

They'll be carrying large balloons with the time indicated and will be standing in the appropriate place in the Starting pens (i.e. the 3 hr pacers will be up at the front and the others staggered back through the field with the 5hrs near the back).

A lot of the first 6/7 miles, going from the Liffey to Phoenix park, are gentle uphills, but you don't notice it so much because it's early in the race.
I think the steepest hill is at mile 9, going under the tunnel coming out of Chapelizod.
From there to mile 16/17 is flat (though there's a long straight up Crumlin Road where you could meet some wind).
When you get to Milltown there's a dip down to the level of the Dodder, then back up again, then down again, and then a longish climb to the top of Fosters Avenue. The last couple of hundred metres is the only bit that's at all steep, but since that is mile 20 and 21, you will be feeling pretty tired.
After that, the only hills left are the UCD flyover and the bridge across the canal, just bumps in the road really.

It's a pretty easy course overall.

There are only two 'hills' to speak off, both quite short. The first is coming out of Chapelizod at about mile 8. The second is the Roebuck hill at about mile 21.

Apart from that there a re a few drags. The first 6 miles is slightly uphill but you barely notice it with crowds/adrenaline. There is a long drag up the crumlin rd from mile 11-13 and another as you leave Milltown up towards UCD from mile 19-21 (culminating in the roebuck Hill). The last 5 miles are all downhill/flat which makes for a good finish if you get to UCD still fresh.

Here is the garmin link to the course from the GPS links thread. You can see the elevation rises there. Overall a total elevation gain of around 500ft is pretty good for a marathon.

That's awesome running, I'm trying to run at recovery HR level for a lot of my runs, which for me is about 151, and really struggling to keep it that low!
