Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I am sure if it is windy the pacers will have wind shields to protect us all.

Heard the 3.30 pacers are really good in protecting their team !!!

Seriously if its windy watch out for the strings off the pacing balloons. I was nearly strangled by Peckham last year a couple of times.

    I was told that I

    - look like a stick insect
    - look like a whippet
    - am too skinny

and I've lost a couple of pounds since then. Good luck in using me as a wind shield. :D

That's ok. I got lots of practise last year, carrying that sign around the course!

That sign did strike me as odd - you certainly drew the short straw there.

Some people on here bitch at me for not being a good wind shield on long runs. Not my fault I'm little.

Anyone know how the water is handed out in Dublin? Is it bottles or cups and if bottles, what size are the bottles i.e 250ml or 500ml? (please be 250ml)

250ml bottle (with sports cap) for the previous two years anyway.

A running friend has been training for the DCM and I got a call today to tell me I messed up as I "told" her about 2 months ago that you can register right up to the date. I feel bad for her I really do , but you would have thought she maybe would have checked it herself.
Anyway when and where is the next marathon that she could enter? anybody any ideas?

    Hi,
I signed up for DCM 2011 and gave an estimated finish time of 3:45h on my application. I am now pretty confident of finishing under 3:30h. Will I be allowed into the 3:30 pen at the start? The website seems to indicate that my race number will be colour coded to match my estimated finish time to a wave group, which is in a different starting wave to 3:30h. I just want to chase those balloons....

The 3:30 pacers are ligning up at the front of wave 2 anyway. Just line up alongside them and you'll be fine.

Just wondering if anyone knows which wave the 3:30 pacers will be in. Will they be at the back of wave 1 or the front of wave 2?

Jaysus, anwering me before I even got to ask the question...now thats impressive :)

I don't think the numbers are colour coded this year. My friend filled in my application on the last day and said they didn't ask for predicted times. They might have changed the form from earlier in the year but he said he didn't have to put in a predicted time for me.

I filed in the application at about 1630 on the last day, and was asked for my predicted time. Could your friend have glossed over it?

Probably. He's an idiot. Either that or he's put me in for a sub 3. :)

Were there wave starts in DCM last year? Given that there'll be >2000 people in wave one, is it difficult to get a starting position reasonably close to the front? How soon before the start do you need to finish your warmup and take your place in the start pen?

No wave starts last year. The last 4 years i have hopped the barrier with 5-10 mins to go and got in wherever I wanted to go. I do it for pretty much every race. I generally find that if you look like you should be there the other runners don't mind.

I think there were wave starts last year.

Generally I've found you cant really warm up. To start anywhere close to the pacers you need to be at the start with about 20 mins to go. I tried to get to the sub 3 pacer at the start last year and couldn't.

A warm up 30 mins before the event isn't going to help too much.

Agree with this, but not 100% sure!

Have been wondering about the warm up.
    1. Marathon pace seems slow enough to not "pull a muscle", therefore warm up isn't that necessary.
    2. The race is so much about energy reserves (glycoegn stores etc.) will the warm up not just burn up a small amount of fuel you'll need at 20 miles
    3. The good of the warm up (getting the body ready, getting warm, etc.) will be undone by the 10/15/20 mins of hanging around at the start.

What do experienced people think? My first marathon

It depends on your goal really. For most people, because of congestion over the start of the race, you'll be running at sub-optimal pace for the first 1-1.5 miles, which serves as a perfect warm-up. Of course it means that you'll have to pick-up the pace slightly subsequently so you're not behind track (aim to do it gradually, you should be on track by about mile 5). Remember to check your pace-band at miles 6, 7, 8, so you're not over-cooking it.

If, on the other hand, you're planning on hitting target pace straight out of the blocks then you should be trying to get a decent warm-up beforehand, but it won't be easy in the DCM configuration (unless you're classified as an elite runner). In Chicago marathon a couple of weeks back, the 'A' pen had lots of room for people to run some easy loops, as runners generally head to the pen quite late, but I can't see that happening in Dublin.

Nothing wrong with going for an easy jog before heading for the pen, just to loosen up, but it won't be the equivalent of your typical pre-race warm-up routine.

Warm up should be the minimum required but if you're running close to your LSR pace you shouldn't need to, that and the fact you'll be held back by the crowd in the first mile.

This is my first marathon and i plan on running with the 4 hour pacers, who I believe will be lining up at the start of the last third of wave 2. If im there 30 mins before the off, will I be able to line up roughly around the last third of the wave, or would it be usually fairly full at the stage? Any advice would be welcome, ta

That sucks but at least you have the option of Florence as it would be a shame to not see the benefits of all those sessions.

Is it a bit too early to call?? no matter how inoccuous the injury you will have swelling since the morning so fingers crossed you'll still be ok after a day or two of RICE

Think Ray Darcy said on the radio, the other day that he was doing it.

Don't see his or Katryn Thomas name or some elite's on entrants search.

Might be blind...should'a listened to the priests! ...I can't find any entrants search facility!

Edit: Is this it? Doesn't include those who didn't enter online - I didn't. Several from our club are missing ....Not sure who else might be missing.

Dont jump to any conclusions yet man, dont let your imagination run wild. The amount of times I've battered myself and thought I had done severe damage only to be running again 2 days later......... Get it checked then you'll know for sure. In the meantime keep calm.

I'm sure your's is only a minor speed bump and you'll be fine by Tuesday, fingers crossed.
