Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Private 'members' only club - Possible?

Sorry if this has been already asked - I did have a search through the forum and found nothing. I also felt this was better than the clubbing forum to ask the question as that's mainly concerned with club nights.

Anyway, there's lots of private clubs around that stay open very late... private members' clubs, golf clubs... even casinos.

What is the legality of this? Has anyone ever tried to start a private 'late night music appreciation society' as somewhere to go after the draconian laws in this country turf us out on the street at 3AM?

If I had a premises in town, could I form my own private members club and run it how I saw fit (within reason of course).

I never heard of this being done in an electronic music context but I really can't see why not.

    thoughts?

You need a license to dance. The members club would be no problem, you'd just have to stay seated all night. You could call it Chin Strokers :)

Because the guy who owns it used to be a cop.

With regards to a private club, as mentioned you would still need the various licenses etc.

Private club really just means a strict entrance policy which needs to be covered under the House Rules you submit at the time of applying for you license.

He must have been a very high up cop to be breaking the law how many years?

Why dont all the other club owners do something

Surely if it was reported something would have to be done?

Hmmm, are we to take it then that no one ever dances in any of the members clubs that are open at night, do they play music in these clubs also?

You could have a music members club with a no dancing policy like the rest of em.

A mate, come on...the night club scene in Ireland is already bent as ****, throw in a chap who has the cozzers on his side and he can get away with anything.

Need a singing and music license, and a dancing license. As far as I'm aware both go hand in hand anyway. These licenses appear to be hard to get without an alcohol license, or so I'm told.

As a money making enterprise, it would never work. You just wouldn't have a viable market for "members only"

It has been done-they guys who run the Globe have one-there are a couple of rooms where DJ's play

Though I presume the pub license covers this as it is the same building

But surely other club owners could get together to the Ombudsman and say this club is breaking a law?
How bout any of the Vintners groups or nightclub industry groups?
