Im currently working on a Focus ST with 20 bent valves. The aircon belt got damaged and was acting like a whip and some how got in behind the timing cover and the timing belt pulled parts of it in and jumped teeth. $7500:eek:

Here is a cutaway picture of a brake disc. The gaps are for cooling.
    imagearz.jpg

Brake pads wear with use, so do discs. Pads wear a lot faster than discs.
For a disc to get to the state of the one in the pic, and the driver not to notice is pretty mind boggling.

    425608_10151184607636801_833933434_n.jpg

The bit at the top that still has flat metal is probably where the disc was warped and not contacting the pad straight, or just not made 100% straight.

6 months old Denso spark plug taken off my engine:

    2G6M.jpg

That's probably why engine's in agony - burns 1/2 litre of oil in 100 km!

Even without that engine's condition wouldn't be good - that's how the other ones look like:

'00 rolla. No coolant issues whatsoever. :]

But car's run flatout every day. :D

Anyway - this one's gonna be a source of spare parts for another one. ;)

ok, toyota typical issue, stem seals needs to be changed, if that car run flat out every day, spark plugs shall be clear and white ish. could be oil rings also, but to find out, need use one of engine diagnostic techniques ;) .

That engine is junk already. The only good thing I'll keep (apart from sensors, ignition coils and other small parts) is timing chain assembly (8 months old). :)

You're right, it can be repaired of course, but since I have another (the same model) car, it's not really necessary, I'd say. ;)

You really would have to be some sort of knuckle dragging moron to not only drive on tyres like that, but to present it for an NCT test with them on!

A full overhaul of the brakes on the Astra was the next job on my list as I knew both front and rears where on or close to wear limits but, after a very heavy emergency stop a week or so ago....I never inspected them afterwards:o

On my way home on Thursday I started getting a rubbing/grinding noise from the rear right, followed, not long after, by a loss of pedal pressure.

On inspection, one of the retaining pins for the rear shoes had snapped, allowing the shoe to slip off the cylinder piston leading to......

Sure it's been fairly dry the last few weeks. Gives you extra grip.

first picture is a front brake disc with new pads recently fitted and the outer lip had been grinded down but the wear indicator was broken out of the inside lip :)

second picture is a trailing arm bush on a focus with the bush completely broken out of the trailing arm, the banging and clattering whilst driving down the test lane would make you go

I don't know. They must have fitted them, themselves. I've never seen anything like it before.

My brother got his landcruiser back from garage with pad on backwards before. He drove for half a day expecting the noise to go away. We couldnt believe it when we saw the pad backing eating into the disc.

I bought a second hand Anti Roll Bar with solid drop links that were used on an ITCC car

This is the selection of nuts/bolts/washers/spacers that were used to hold it together on the previous car. Nothing the same on both sides, some nuts some allen and all spaced differently.

    20130311_185455.jpg

It cost me 6quid and a half hour of my time to get the correct bolts, the previous person that fit this probably spent more than half an hour looking through boxes for those bolts above

3 weeks. I had given up but hadn't gotten around to getting a replacement yet. You just reminded me of the number 19 I seen sticking out the side of a taxi mans bonnet in a car park about a year ago. I left a note on his windscreen. It had done a fair bit of damage to the bonnet and wing.

Wonder if he done it himself. Wouldn't like to have been the mechanic to see that customer returning.

Looked at a car last Sunday for sale. Turned out to have too many problems anyway. But inside, it had an overpowering disgusting smell of what I took to be cats pee. Had to take a shower after it.
